  2. Edgy MD wrote: I don't know how long Ron Washington lasts coming so close so often. He's got one more year on his deal. When he was a player, I always thought that one day he would play for the Mets. But he never did. Sort of like Al Spangler. Later
  3. SteveJRogers wrote: Cleveland wins, officially making the Yankees go golfing for the winter! All you Munchkins gather 'round and start singing, "Ding Dong, the Bitch is dead". Later
  4. If the Mets keep up this winning, they could lose a protected (top 10) draft pick if they sign any top free agents in the coming off season. Later
  5. Edgy MD wrote: That would be a creative form of vandalism. Replacing Yankee plaques with bogus (but accurate) rewrites. That might make for a fun spin-off thread. But that Billy Martin one would be tough to beat. Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: But then with two outs and a runner on against ChiSox closer Addison Reed, 72 y/o Jason Giambi PH's a game-winning 2R HR. Not quite 72, but at roughly 42 1/2 years old, he became the oldest player to ever hit a walkoff home run. Heard on ESPN Radio, so, consider the source. Later
  7. Mets Willets Point wrote: The proudest Yankee Billy Martin would shake his head in disgust and kick dirt on the shoes of this team. Just before George Steinbrenner fired him ... again. Later
  8. I keep checking this thread, hoping to see Duke Carmel's card. Later
  9. Another reason not to trust what you hear on ESPN Radio. Later
  10. From Baseball Prospectus: Not enough milk or something? No more breastfeeding? I dont know. Global warming? Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, on why his team encounters so many injuries. Later
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: Pirates win on a 9th inning run then a play at the plate for the final out The Byrd was the word. I just heard on the ESPN radio update that he tossed out the runner. And the Bucs will be playing post-season baseball. Later

  14. Now Andy can spend his time PEDdling stuff on TV like Joltin' Joe. Later

G-Fafif wrote: Aside from the game passes and Cracker Jack, does attaining eight full years add anything to his pension? 43 days seems to be the magic number, though 10 years is big, too. http://benefitsbryancave.com/major-league-baseball-pension-and-healthcare-benefits/ Thanks. I remember when it used to be 4 years to vest. Didn't know if that had been raised or lowered. 43 days. Wow! Later
  16. Nova wasn't an end-to-ender. He wasn't on the DL, but he spent some time (3 games) in the minors to get straightened out after he was getting sauteed mid year. Later

  18. Ashie62 wrote: He doesn't hit much for sure...longggshot... Bud Harrelson never hit more than .251 in the minors, and played 16 years in the majors, hitting under .250. If Tovar can field as well as some of those reports tell us, he could have a decent major league career. At shortstop, if you can pick it, you will play. Later
  19. Not looking too good, kid. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=villas001edi Come on home. Maybe some of MMYF's chicken soup will be good for ya'. Later
  20. Nice first game, Juan. Didn't see or hear the game. But from the box score it looks like you got pinch-run for by Recker. That doesn't say a whole lot about your speed. Later
  21. Belated welcome to the bigs, Wilmer. I knew you could do it. Hope you stay for more than a while. Later
  22. Nice debut, Juan. Now, out of the house. You're getting meal money now, and it will make room for me to adopt another kid. Later
  23. Edgy MD wrote: That's a real convoluted reason for rooting against the Orioles. I know. But I hadn't slipped in a negative comment about the announcers fawning over Derek Jeter for a while. Every thread needs one. (Insert evil chortle here) Later
  24. Even though I like the Orioles, I don't want them to make it. If they do, you know Cal Ripken Jr. will be there, and it will make it easier for the announcers to slip in more Derek Jeter references than they normally would. Rooting for KC and Cleveland. Their fans deserve it. Later
