ESPN's Buster Olney says there's a "good possibility" free agent Alfredo Aceves signs with the Mets. Aceves posted an ugly 4.86 ERA in 11 appearances (six starts) this past year for the Red Sox and was at times a headache for Boston manager John Farrell. But he shouldn't cost much for a Mets team that is open to taking chances on any potential roster upgrades. Aceves, 30, posted a 2.61 ERA across 114 innings back in 2011. Later

No, we're not going to call the men in the white coats for you. If you look at his numbers, he's Choo lite at less cost. From what I've heard from some Fantasy guys, he seems to suffer nagging injuries every year - not enough to keep him out of the lineup, but enough to impact his performance for stretches at a time. The decline in power last year does concern me, but his OB skllls are there. If he can be had at a reasonable trade price (Keep your mitts off my kid Montero, Sandy), why not? Later -

Even as a 1B-man/emergency catcher, which is probably where his future lies, that set of skills makes for a tough case as an everyday player. I was thinking more like a Smokey Burgess forever kind of career (but far from as good). Some 1B, mostly PH, preach a little gospel, sell a coupla' bottles of Doctor Good. And the fact that he "can catch" keeps him around. I said "a weird feeling". Not based on anything other than my gut. Later
