  1. The fact that the MFYs were the next-to-last major league team to integrate was maybe the primary reason I couldn't root for them when my team left Brooklyn. Later
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: I saw Goosen play many moons ago and it seems he was a highly thought of prospect. Well Casey supposedly said of Goossen's prospect status that: 'he's only 20 years old and in ten years he had a good chance to be 30' I remember the numbers in the quote being 19 and 29. But, he was right. But why is everyone so concerned about the color of the walls (in this and other threads) in those photos? I'm asking that as a serious question. Don't the colors of the walls in old photos depend on how the pictures (film in those days) were processed and under what temperature and humidity conditions the pictures have since been stored? 4. batmagadanleadoff wrote: And underneath the visiting bullpen, they kept separate bullpen carts ... for the Jets relievers. Y'mean Al Woodall had his own cart? Later
  5. Possible call-up in September. 7 g, 12 IP, 13K, 1.28 WHIP. Later
  6. I will do a happy dance when Chase Utley retires. Later
  7. zips projections: Wheeler: 175 IP - 8.81 K/9 - 3.43 BB/9 - 0.77 HR/9 - 3.48 ERA - 3.58 FIP Montero: 144 IP - 8.65 K/9 - 3.11 BB/9 - 0.87 HR/9 - 3.61 ERA - 3.63 FIP Gee: 142 IP - 6.78 K/9 - 2.54 BB/9 - 1.14 HR/9 - 4.18 ERA - 4.24 FIP They project Montero closer to Wheeler than what Gee would provide. 8. Lefty Specialist wrote: You know, I'd be comfortable with Montero as the 5th starter. I agree. But I'm guessing that TC would rather go with a proven veteran. Its "the book". Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Rays broadcaster talking excitedly about the remote broadcast of their show they're planning on doing at Hooter's. Well, not an outlandish idea. The very first Hooters is right over the causeway from Tampa/ St. Pete in Clearwater. (I was in the building opposite it on a business project a few years ago) Went there for lunch for three days before I realized they serve food there. Later
  10. What do I see? From that picture, I se a pitcher with a weird leg kick in his follow through. As for this year, he'll start the season at AAA, but I'm not sure how he'll improve his table manners at those Las Vegas Casino pig out buffets. He will. however, improve his control, command and secondary pitches so well that he'll be called up mid year. From that point, he'll go 8-3, 3.28, 1.22 WHIP and have serious consideration for ROY. 12. I didn't say he would accept those offers. Lots of happily married good looking guys have women throwing themselves at them. But, there is no such thing as a bad opportunity to say something bad about Derek Jeter. Later
  13. Edgy MD wrote: He needs to make the team or he has to pass through waivers? Yes. He's out of options. He would have to be put on waivers if he doesn't make the 25 man roster out of Spring Training. Later
  14. 20 games, fewer than 15 innings. 3.95 ERA Later
  15. Zvon wrote: themetfairy wrote: I'm catching the replay of the game - who the hell is announcing? I don't recognize these voices. OE - It's Jim Duquette and Scott Braun. They were good imo. A couple of times they got caught up in trying to show us how much they knew and forgot to tell us who we were watching do stuff on the screen(pitch, hit and field) . But overall, they weren't too bad. Later
  16. He makes the cover of GQ, and gets so many offers to model, he leaves baseball to pursue a career as a model and actor. But if he stays in baseball, .235 - 5- 14 in a limited backup role until Plawecki is called up. Whichever path he follows, he sets an all-time major league record by receiving 4,371 offers for dates from ex- Derek Jeter girlfriends. They all say they would like to have a date with someone who actually has a dick. Later
  17. He was fifth or sixth in (combined) BA in the minors last year. (As per BA). I hope his average would be up there again, but that he doesn't have enough at bats in the minors this year to find his way back to that list. Later
  18. And they bring in Alvarez to protect the lead against three lefty batters, and it looks like he's trying to walk to Las Vegas. Later
  19. Looks like David's favorite song is "Its All About the Base". And if it isn't , it soon will be if he keeps adding size to his tush. O.E. - After looking at the Spring Training pictures MF has posted (BTW- great job, MF - thanks), it appears that many of the Mets are sporting larger posteriors. Maybe its the cut of the uniforms. Later
  20. .250/ .315/ .375 Not sure how many ABs he will get. Later
  21. 'Tis a quandary, because I think he may be out of options. He may have the best five "tools" of any of their outfield prospects. He has gone though an entire season under heavy testing scrutiny. If they have to send him down, I hope he passes through waivers, the Mets re-sign him and he can finally put it all together. If that can happen, ETA 2016. Some 2014 numbers: http://www.amazinavenue.com/2015/2/27/8123141/cesar-puellos-improvements-during-the-2014-season Later
  22. He may already be a better defensive catcher than Travis. But "round out his game" may mean playing some games at first base. He can hit. I expect him to spend at least part of the season with the big club, producing a slash line of .278/ .331/ .355. Later
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It's a Ragsdalian cry for attention. I read last year that he is managing in the minors (Texas org.?) and has been very successful. Good for him. Later
  24. He has all the tools and lots of potential. But, I think he'll be kept at AA or AAA this year until he realizes that potential against all types of pitching. Later
  25. I root for all the players on the Mets to do well. And Niese is probably a very nice guy who loves kids and small animals. But when he pitches, he is hazardous to my health. I get agita. That's all. Later
