  1. In addition to Academy Award nominations for Best picture, best actor, best actress and score*, it was nominated for Best Editing. Editing is one of those things I always thought was like Umpiring - if you noticed it, it was bad. But when I walked out of the movie, I told my wife that I thought the editing was good, and its probably the first time I ever said that about any movie. And I can't explain why. Later * there may also have been a bast adaption screenplay nomination, too.
  2. Stu Miller was the opposite of what we imagine a reliever to be. He wasn't a big guy throwing hard stuff. His best pitch was a slow curve. A VERRRRRRYYYY slow curve. And he threw it most of the time. And guys got themselves out by getting anxious and trying too hard to crush it. RIP Later
  3. Maybe he'll make all of them change the positions they play. Later
  4. Yeah, but now I have drones flying over my house. Good job anyhow. Thanks. Later
  5. Sons of major leaguers have had a wide range of success. Mets who immediately come to mind were Todd Hundley (son of Randy) and Lee May Jr. It will be interesting to see how Vlad II does, no matter which team signs him. Later

  7. When we're looking for possible motives for not voting for Piazza, I look at 4 of the voters listed above: Heyman Noble Sherman Verducci Haven't at least 3 of them(maybe not Noble) been posted about here over the years for being "anti-Met"? Maybe they would have voted for Mike if he had played for some other team. As Dennis Miller says, "That's my opinion and, I may be wrong". Later
  8. I can understand how some voters feel that the Hall should be reserved for only the greats. But, Howard Cosell used to say "He's the best there is at what he does". And if someone is the absolute best at his position during the time in which he played and compares favorably with the best of other eras, IMO he deserves induction. And Mike Piazza fits that description. Later
  9. Based on a true story, the movie tells about the British attempt to break the Nazi's Enigma code machine during World War II and the man who led that team. Later
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: The update to that link specifically says that Castro was not detained, but that's also coming from within his camp so who knows. Perhaps the more disturbing part is where it mentions that this was the second time this month that Castro was in the vicinity of a shooting. Forget baseball. He'll fit right in on the Oakland Raiders. Later
  11. Many years ago, I heard an MFY scout asked how they scored/rated prospects. The scale went something like this:(the exact words of 1-4 are fuzzy with time. The fifth is a direct quote) 1) Organization filler 2) Prospect/ possible major leaguer 3) Major league reserve 4) Major league starter 5) A Yankee. This face stuff seems to be similar to that MFY crap that made me want to barf. Later

  13. That should come with parental warnings. Later

Edgy MD wrote: There's a lot of harsh gong around. I don't think we know the substance of Mazzilli's grand jury testimony. He wasn't called to testify at the trial. It was an allusion to the dad pointing out the obstruction call to the ump in a Mets/ MFY game. That was when the dad's coat got officially turned. Later

d'Kong76 wrote: Release him. Seems a little, and unnecessarily, harsh. The elder Mazzilli had this to say, via the Mets: There is nothing politically correct that I could say that can soften the blow, my son made a mistake. Just like any other parent out there we are disappointed and hurt when our children make bad decisions. However, we are proud of our son for seeking professional help on his own. The only thing now that we can do as a family is love him, support him, and have faith as weve always done. Given his past history, I'm surprised his father didn't point the finger at him. Later
  17. If you plot the odds on a typical bell shaped curve, it might look something like this: Probable: 2% Likely Probable 9% Probably probable 13% Somewhat Probable 27% Sort of Unlikely 29% Kind of Unlikely 11% Probably Unlikely 7% Unlikely 3% Which means I chalk it up as a definite maybe. Later
  18. Holy Hector Espino, Batman! What a shot! Later

  20. I think the Baseball America list is due out today, but haven't seen it yet. OE: Here it is: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2015-new-york-mets-top-10-prospects/ No new insight there. Later
  21. Ben, My pal, the Canadian Blue Jays fan, vacations in Cuba every few years and loves it. But I don't believe the good intentions for a moment. I think its a Commie plot for them to get Jorge Toca back. Later

  24. I think its old, because it has the old skyline logo that doesn't include the CitiCorp building. (Or are my eyes not keen enough to see it?) Later
  25. Two possibilities: 1) We saw it there, but were too polite to mention it. 2) Cam wasn't a highly rated prospect, so nobody read that thread. Not sure which it was. Later
