  1. What a great looking couple. The next time MMYF says anything when I wear Mets gear with her, I show her that picture. Then tell her to put hers on, too. (I think she's a closet Mets fan, but won't give me the satisfaction of wearing it when I'm around. Shhhh. Pretend you don't know.) Later
  2. My favorite early Met player. Some of his pitching performances against the greats of the time (it seemed like he was always in a 1-0 game against an All-Star pitcher) were classic. No matter how tough, he always fought bravely. Do the same now, Al. Later
  3. Rule number 1 - don't let Utley beat you. Rule number 2 - re-read rule number 1. Later
  4. He was the winning pitcher today. 8 IP, 5 H, 2R, 0 BB, 8K. Ho hum. He also had three hits, including a double and a home run. Later
  5. I wanted Pancho Herrera to be one of the expansion Mets. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/herrepa01.shtml Alas, it was not to be. Later
  6. I prefer to think of it as acceleration of enjoyment. Later
  7. Speaking of prima donnas, what about the case in which arguably the greatest shortstop ever to play the game joins a team and the incumbent shortstop for that team refuses to give up the position? OK, maybe or maybe not pertinent to the Granderson discussion, but the alarm on my "Time to Take a Shot at Jeter" clock just went off. Later

But most times you get a Latin American-born 21-year-old up there to do a live interview, it's a tough situation to put him in. But he seemed to understand the gist of the questions and twist out coherent if brief-ish answers. Not a bad showing by the first Colombian-born Met. Exactly. And I hope he'll get plenty of opportunities to hone his major league post game, Hero-of-the-game, interview skills as the season unfolds. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: We're falling into the Megdal thesis here, aren't we? Absolutely NOT. Just an observation. Nothing Machiavellian implied. Later
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Buck lost his case, but it was dramatic for a little bit there! It's hard to conclude that Showalter doesn't have money on this thing. Buck may be a lot of things, but he is NOT Pete Rose. Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Dilson managing the post-game OK. Was that the one on TV? I caught the one on radio (weak signal/ tons of static) and he did it in English. He did OK. Later Also - I've noticed that when post game reporters interview a young Spanish speaking player, if the player doesn't seem to understand a particular word, the reporters repeat the question using the same word. Maybe this is fodder for the Mets on the Air thread.
  12. Not many lords and ladies showing up at the manor unless Harvey pitches. About 21K last night. I hope that will improve as the weather gets warmer and the fans begin to realize that this team is for real. Later

  14. Thanks, Edgy and Ceets. I'll give it a try. Later

I can even pick up a Buffalo Radio Station in my car driving home at night. But when I drive home, I can't get WOR-AM. I think it has to do with how the signal is aimed. I lose the signal around Katonah and never pick it up again all the way home. And no matter where I place my home radio, I still can't get the station. WOR says it is the "flagship of the Mets network". I wonder of that network includes any stations closer to me. Sigh. Later
  16. d'Kong76 wrote: For the most part, the regional advertising I get on SNY is very low budget... I don't live that far from Citi as the crow flies. I think they have trouble getting high-paying advertisers on both tv and radio. Maybe if they sign up a few of those high paying advertisers they'll be able to buy a radio transmitter that sends a signal that can be pointed toward Western Connecticut. Later

  18. Edgy MD wrote: I'm sure there are several more. I know Eric Valent was one. A rare Rule 5 draftee with MLB experience, he. Lenny DiNardo was another Rule 5ee that the team lost outright when he spent a full season on the Red Sox roster. Another one was an interesting case. In 2002 they lost infielder Enrique Cruz to the Brewers. I had followed the switch hitting shortstop after reading that he had hit 47 home runs in about 250 At bats (not a misprint) in a Dominican junior league. But he never showed those skills in pro ball. I thought he was gone forever, but he was re-signed by the Mets about 5 or 6 years ago, then released about a month later. Later
  19. Wow! Then his birth parents must be very proud. Later
  20. I couldn't find his adoption thread in the Adopt-A-Prospect Forum. Was it archived? Be interesting t see what we said about him. Later
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: So the last update on this chart was for the Brewers picking up manager Ron Roenicke's option for 2016. But that's not looking like such a smart business move right now as the Brewers canned Roenicke on Sunday night just 25 games into the season. And I had the over. Later
  22. Not one, but TWO 1962 Mets catchers also played for the O's? Never knew that. Later
  23. Heard on the radio this afternoon (WCBS?) that the Yankees have announced that they will NOT pay the bonus. Lawyers, start your engines. Later
  24. Ceetar wrote: here's your conspiracy theory. They started him in the majors. They sent him down but with a definitive date in mind to be recalled. They needed to send him back down for various reasons, but the mandatory 10 day demotion would've triggered his option year. (20 days total needed) Instead he's on the DL, which saves his option temporarily, gives them time to trade Gee or stumble into an empty rotation spot another way, and gives them 30 or so days of minor league 'rehab' time to have Montero start games in the minors before they'd need to recall him or officially option him to AAA. And they can monitor his progress in those minor league games from the grassy knoll. Later
  25. They could have found it in him:(From Merriam Webster) Full Definition of VIVISECTION 1 : the cutting of or operation on a living animal usually for physiological or pathological investigation; broadly : animal experimentation especially if considered to cause distress to the subject His performance last year was causing distress to us.
