  2. Wilmer hitting in that #3 spot. That can do wonders for any young player's confidence. Later
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Daniel is speaking tonight on the News Expressing Christian ideals and strong anti-gay baseball views Oh and, I can see Daniel condem the lifestyle But look at Daniel; he is show-er-ing with guys And he is clinging to that bar of soap for dear life. Later

  5. G-Fafif wrote: Anybody remember how Roger McDowell said far worse to fans in SF a few years ago ... He's still coaching Brave pitchers and it doesn't seem to come up anymore. Well that's because (he says with tongue firmly in cheek) there are no gays South of the Mason Dixon Line. Especially not in Atlanta. Later
  6. I'm wondering why he hasn't risen faster through the organization. I hope he skips ST Lucie and goes right to AA. There, he will go: 75IP, 106K, 2.06 ERA in 56 games, and make it up to AAA for 5 games. Later
  7. He may be part of a late season trade after spending the year up to that point in AAA. Sigh. Later
  8. Guys on the last year of a contract with a New York team shouldn't be saying anything about gays. It could give them the excuse they've been waiting for to get rid of him without the fans getting too upset. Later

  10. I'm not sure he will be the closer for the entire season. He'll start the season in that role, then I feel TC will see if Parnell has regained his stuff and use him there. Mejia will have 18-20 saves with a 3.31 ERA until Parnell retakes the closer role. Later
  11. IIRC, there were several articles written about him during the last Spring Training. I remember reading more articles about him than about de Grom. But he then only had fewer than 20 games and 100 innings at three levels last year. Was he hurt? Is he now recovering from an injury? Either way, I'm guessing he will stay in the minors this year until they're sure he's ok. Maybe he'll get a cup of java when the logjam ahead of him (Montero, Syndergaard in the minors and some of the starters in the majors) is resolved. Later
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I haven't read anything that said he had trouble cracking 90. He may end up there, and he does benefit from deception, but what I've read had him in the low nineties early in the season and up to 95 by the midway point. Maybe different guns when he was timed, but same deception to the observers. As long as he continues to get guys out, I don't care if he throwing 80 MPH like Stu Miller did. Later
  13. Fred will see Steven and have Sandy flashbacks. And he won't be hallucinating. If he stays healthy (knocking wood) this kid is for real. I see a late season call-up, and a 2.65 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 65 innings. If he comes up earlier, the Mets could continue a string of ROY pitchers. Later
  14. I'd read that the Leather Rocket is a Sid Fernandez kind of lefty strikeout pitcher. His fastball rarely breaks 89 MPH, but his delivery makes it difficult for the batters to pick up the ball easily. The only thing holding him back will be his control. But, as MF said, once he does get called up, he will be impressive, with a very good K/IP ratio. Terry will probably use him as a LOOGY, but I think his delivery will make him effective against righty batters, too. Later
  15. Ceetar wrote: is it me or does that article not even have a by-line? Megdal? He focuses a lot on the finances of the Mets. Later
  16. Getting better. Keeps the leadoff spot by hitting .288/ .355 with 40-45 XBH and 20+ SB. With those numbers and this lineup, will score over 100 5runs. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: First Colombian Met, correct? Or from Mount Olympus. I'm not sure which. (Yes, I think he'll be THAT good) Later
  18. To paraphrase the old song, "How you gonna' keep them Down on the farm After they've seen Citeee?" Well, they will, until the logjam clears in the middle infield. But by the end of the year, his ability and athleticism will force the issue for the front office, and Dilson will begin a stellar major league career. The time at Las Vegas will hone his skills and when he is called up, he will be a .290/ .345/ .415 performer this year. Later
  19. TheOldMole wrote: Like Gil McDougald? Does he throw like a girl? Funny you should mention that. After he retired, I spoke to him on one of the early sports talk shows (Bill Mazer?) and asked him about how he prepared his arm because the throws from short, second and third were different. He said it took only a few throws during infield to prepare for the position he would play that day. But he said he adopted a basic throwing throwing motion so the differences weren't that harmful to his arm. Later
  20. 16-12 2.89 Later
  21. I hope he becomes our Gil McDougald - a good, versatile, infielder who is a member of at least 5 World Series Championship teams. Later
  22. Hmmm. He waited to the second sentence before he mentioned Madoff. Maybe he's mellowing. Later
  23. His old batting coach + shorter right field fence = a good year. .265 - 25 - 85 Later
  24. Unless Flores is terrible at short (and I don't think he will be), then Matt will just get a late season call up and hit .295/.355/.410. Then he'll patiently wait and see what happens to Murphy next off season. If Murphy is gone, there will be a game of musical chairs at second and short, and Matt could find himself a seat. If the Mets decide to move Murphy this season, then Matt will get some extended work. (same predicted result) Later
  25. 4-4, 3.80. But I have no idea in which role he'll get those numbers. Later
