My wife had the same idea. Calling it bereavement leave is both horrifying and misleading in cases like this. Later
  2. All -Star All- Everything Serious Cy consideration 1.84 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 10.6 K/IP 204 IP (not including post season) Later
  3. A mid year call-up. Used primarily as a LOOGY. 25 G, 22 IP, 3.42ERA, 1.37 WHIP. Later
  4. Don't think he'll make the major league team this year. But he'll begin to show power in the minors. He has been playing in parks that favor pitchers in prior seasons. Later
  5. Emerges as a read candidate to take over the setup role (and maybe even the closer role in the future should something bad happen). 3.18 ERA, 1.20WHIP, 10.2 K/IP, 3.2 BB/IP and at least four batters with soiled undergarments in 52 games. Later
  6. He is this installment of the Josh Satin story. His only problem is that he got a late start as a pro, and has been labelled "to old for his league" as he moves up the ladder. He can hit! And his versatility will get him a looksee this year. 23 G, 70 AB, .287, 2, 11 And a major league future - somewhere. Later
  7. Edgy MD wrote: We've got more guys dying at the plate tonight than Guy Fieri. Later Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery. Thank you. Later
  8. When the Mets got Al Luplow I thought they got Al Spangler. I'm still not sure they didn't. Later

  10. The Mets have activated Montero from the taxi squad (there's such a thing?) and optioned Campbell to make room. http://www.amazinavenue.com/2016/4/12/11419526/mets-eric-campbell-rafael-montero-activate-option Later

They have to do something with the lineup. The one they've been using couldn't score with a hooker. Later
  12. Setup man supreme. 40+ holds, with fewer than 5 blown saves and a 1.18 WHIP. Later
  13. 65 games, 45 as a starting catcher. .260 - 6 HR - 28 RBI Later
  14. Saw the coming attraction a few weeks ago. When I had to register a car last week (see the Apropos of Nothing 2016 thread) I remembered the DMV scene clip from the preview and laughed again. Haven't seen the full movie yet, but it looks like a delight. I'll score it then. Later
  15. I see Matt playing mostly third base at Las Vegas, getting called up in September and hitting well enough (.270/ .340/ .385) to be considered as the super-sub for the Mets starting in 2017. Later
  16. Run production - not getting hits in bunches. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Trauma may be minimal, probably using more lasers than knives, but I have my doubts about it having zero impact. Nothing has zero impact. They have to extract something, rather than just cut it. For that reason, I think it would be an arthroscopic procedure, with viewing, freeing up and removal through a thin tube. Later
  18. Won't make a major league appearance in 2016. Later
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Turtle doves, try to focus. We're not asking where he'll be living in 10 years. Neither do we need an analog for what his ultimate career will look like. When all that is said and done, few or none will remember what was written here today. The idea is to inquire as to what he will or will not contribute to the Mets in 2016 and 2016 alone. Turtle doves? OK., emmet. If he gets called up mid 2016 due to s spot opening up through trade or injury, he'll have a Schneckian 1972 year. If a year end call-up, it will be a Schneckian 1973 year. I think it will be the former. Later
  20. And it ends. 1-0 loss. Dagnabbit! Later
  21. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: This game was supposed to be on MLB network, but instead we get Braves and Cards. I'd forgotten how awful McCarver is. So far, he's whined about the catcher rule, the Utley rule and pitch counts. You're not missing much. The Mets are down 1-0 in the fifth. Ryan Howard went yard. Later
  22. I'd like him to do well, but when all is said and done, my gut tells me that his major and minor league stats will end up looking like this guy's: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/schneda02.shtml He had high minor league OBP too, and showed more power in the minors than Brandon. And I'm not sure when major league year 1 will be and he'll be a fourth outfielder type. Later
  23. Please make it more than once a year, Lundy. Later
  24. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Centerfield wrote: The Yankees. They are the Republicans of baseball. I disagree. The Yankees are an Evil Empire onto themselves. No reason to insult Republicans. I remember when it was said "rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for US Steel". And they weren't talking about the Democrat Union members loading coal into the furnaces. Later
  25. Those minor league strikeouts (as per the BA Rookie book) were primarily from the rapid arm/ slow pitch deception of his changeup. Until he proves he can be consistently effective against hitters at higher levels (AA and AAA) I don't expect to see him with the big club. And I'm thinking it will take him the full year at those levels to do that. Later
