  1. It was like .. "Yay! They got rid of Bastardo. Oh, wait... " Addition by subtraction and subtraction by addition. Indifferent. Later
  2. Great job, as usual. Oh yeah, and ... BEAT OHIO STATE! Later

It's like that, in addition to the botched add-on runs, he got mad that the singles -- both the one after the Ellsbury K in the 1st and then the two which followed the first two outs in front of the Teixeira HR in the 2nd -- were kind of dinky and as a result got all flustered over it. It was as though he has been reading the John Niese playbook. Later

I saw that play and wonder why some early scouting reports questioned his defense at short. He looked smooth and confident. And he hasn't done anything I've seen that would make me fear playing him at short on a regular basis. Bartolo conducted his post game interview through a (hot) translator. I'm pretty sure he has lived in the US long enough to have picked up at least a working knowledge of English. I know its his prerogative, but why does he do this? Comfort factor or just Bartolo being Bartolo? Or a chance to be next to that translator? Later

  8. My kid will be on the disabled list for the rest of the year. He had surgery to remove a cyst from his shoulder. One of the minor league analysts (in Amazing Avenue?) speculated that the pain in the shoulder is why he didn't hit with the expected power this year. Heal fully kid. We can wait for your break-out year in 2017. His numbers this year were .316/.345/.398. Later
  9. Casey Stengel believed that the skills necessary to play short (speed, quickness, arm) were transferable to center field. He converted many shortstops to centerfielders while managing the MFYs. The most notable example was Mickey Mantle. Others included Tom Tresh and Tony Kubek and maybe Bobby Murcer. In one World Series, the Tiger manager moved centerfielder Mickey Stanley to shortstop because of injuries to his regular infielders. IIRC he had never played short before, and he played well. Who knows how long it would take Jose to learn the position? But if he takes to the position, why not? Later
  10. Mop-up pitcher in a blowout win. Now THAT'S a role I would like to see Niese in a lot of times this year. Later
  11. At least they didn't give up Don Rose and Leroy Stanton. Later
  12. Talk about mixed emotions. I feel like I just saw my mother-in-law drive off a cliff - in my new car. Glad to see Bastardo go, but for Niese? Oh well. At least they got rid of Bastardo. Later
  13. Still haven't come up with anything to equal the Pepperoni/ Balboni line, but pretty close. Loved it. Later
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Deadline is tomorrow (Monday) 4 PM I thought it was today. Lacroy was held out of today's game pending a trade. That made me think they didn't want him on the field while a trade went down (like the Flores internet fiasco last year). Thanks. Later
  15. So, the Mets didn't make any moves today. They'll just have to win it all with what they have. Later
  16. If sp(l)itters count, Roger Craig developed one, never threw it as a Met (as far as I can tell) but later taught it to pitchers on other teams. Mike Scott was the primary pupil who came to mind. Later
  17. Galen Cisco. Later

  20. Some CAH* named Moore was doing the fill-in for the mid-day show on WFAN. He was speculating that the Yanks could trade two of their relievers (one of them Chapman)- one each to the Cubs and the Nats for needed talent, then re-sign Chapman as a free agent at the end of the year. So, they could screw the Mets twice. I threw up a little in my mouth, knowing that those moves are entirely possible. Later * CAH = Cretinous Ass Hole - one step on the evolutionary scale below YLDB. Other examples are Mark Malousis and everyone on ESPN radio.
  21. Nothing about Jeter's wedding? C'mon CPF-ers, its like hunting season. I'll start - I wonder if she gave him back his gift basket as a dowry. Later
  22. Saw it yesterday. I'd give it a 4 stars out of five. (Easily talked into a 4 1/2) Whoever wrote it not only loves animals, but also loves New York City. Both adults and children will find it funny. Well done. Later
