Maybe if you hadn't given up so many screaming line drives, the defense wouldn't have had so many hot shots to handle. Later
  3. You looked at the stuff. You looked at the radar gun. Then you looked at the conversion rate of about 2/3 of his save opportunities. (OE: 60.7 %) It was baffling. Still is. Later

  5. If you net play and want to get pics of the players, here's the site. http://www.stratfanforum.com/sffipb/topic/49737-2015-photo-set-portraits/ Not sure if you have to buy the game to gain access, but I didn't. So I couldn't get past the logon screen. Maybe there would be some useful pics that someone here could use for baseball cards and stuff. OE, I found out that the images only show up when you are playing the on-line game. They're not stand alone pics. But maybe someone who is tech savvy can find a way to get/use them. Later

  7. Holy oxymoronic, Batman! That's like the officer telling his troops to maintain "detached contact" with the wagon train in the movie comedy Hallelujah Trail. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059250/ When one trooper asks what that means, the officer answers, "I don't know. Its in the manual". I saw the movie while it was in the Army, and that line has stuck with me ever since. This idea seems just as dumb, as exemplified by the situation FK mentioned above. Later
  8. Didn't see this posted anywhere else on the CPF, but so does DeGrom: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/114237/jacob-degrom-open-to-long-term-extension-with-mets Lock 'em both up, I say, and Noah and Matz, too. Its only money. Later

  10. I felt a few of the scenes in the snow were redundant. We get it, it was cold. But that doesn't take much away from the fact that it was a very good film. I gave it 4 1/2 stars. The subtitles during the Native American dialogue were clear in English. And by that I also mean readable. Sometimes, they are done poorly - there is no contrast between the words and the background scenery. But these were done well. Leonardo deserves his Oscar. Later
  11. There's another De Aza in the organization - a 19 year old infielder, Yeffry De Aza. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=deaza-000yef Who woulda' thunk it? Later
  12. The "how to play ... " books I remember being famous were the Spaulding Books: http://rarebooks.library.nd.edu/collections/sports/baseball/ Side note: I once spoke to fan-insulter Pete Franklin about how Bill Mazeroski deserved to be in the Hall Of Fame because he was the greatest player ever to field his position. I said that if the Spaulding Guide on how to play second base were written today, it would have used Maz as a model. He said "You may be right", which for him was a loud and rare compliment. Later
  13. Zvon wrote: First player banned for life because of steroids? I didn't realize he was the first. I always wanted a Met to be the first player in major league history to do something. But this wasn't one of the things I'd wanted. Later

  16. Fman99 wrote: So this is not about ballplayers with big juicy tits? You guys don't know what busted is all about. You're right! The biggest bust ever seen on a baseball field was Morgana. Later
  17. It wasn't long ago that the Mets looked at Atlanta and thought they were an organization to be emulated. Now, the worm might just be turning. Later
  18. Maybe not the goofiest looking guy ever to play for the Mets, but certainly in the group photo. That's all I remember about him. Later
  19. The glue that at times held the staff together. He was a starter, middle man, setup man and closer. He did what Terry asked and, for the most part, performed well in each role until I think arm fatigue got to him last year. Good guy. Hard worker. I wish him well when he won't be pitching against the Mets. Later

  21. Good find. He never followed up on my question about players asking Kiner for batting tips. Now I'm pissed. Later
  22. Edgy MD wrote: The burning competition over who will be the last free agent standing from the National League champion 2015 Mets is down to Eric O'Flaherty, Bobby Parnell, Carlos Torres, and Juan Uribe. Who am I kidding, right? It's going to be O'Flaherty. You're right. I'm guessing that after last season, O'Flaherty's agent couldn't sell him to a transplant hospital for his body parts. Later
