  1. 148 games .265-15-68. Decent defense at short, but still removed for defense late in some games. (I don't know why. Ask Terry) Nice signing. Later

We all had our bag lunches, including a can of grape soda wrapped in aluminum foil so it would stay a little bit cool. When the bus finally arrived we found that the surface was gas, there was a gigantic red storm, the gravity was too much for the human body to handle and there was no breathable atmosphere. We had to get back on the bus and go back him. Quite a disappointment! That's what happens when you have Ms. Frizzle as your teacher... Or drop some acid. Later

  4. From SB Nation: The Mets have made their first spring training cuts of the year, sending the following players to the minor league side of camp: pitchers Rafael Montero, Dario Alvarez, Akeel Morris, Chasen Bradford, and Paul Sewald, and catcher Raywilly Gomez. Or is there a better place to post roster moves? The prospect thread? Later
  5. He may be a Sophomore this year, but he will play like a grizzled veteran. .285-20-90. OBP .355+ Improved splits against lefty pitchers keep him in the lineup almost full time. Later
  6. d'Kong76 wrote: That Paul era of that Yankee run was the worst. But he battled. Nightly, daily, hourly... Roid rage. Later
  7. The terms "Yankee" and "Asshole" are kind of redundant. Can you please re-word your title to be more specific? (j/k) Anyhow, to carry on in the spirit of this thread, Derek Jeter's fiancé just showed off her engagement ring (he must have run out of gift baskets) while wearing a bikini on the cover of a magazine. (found the link, but it was to a lot of pictures.) Class all the way. Later
  8. .280 65-75 extra base hits, of which 28-30 will be home runs. .835-.860 OPS 115 RBI 2nd in MVP voting. Later
  9. 10-9, 4.25 ERA, 10 "holds" after he moves to the bullpen when Wheeler arrives mid year, and at least one game-winning RBI. And lots of jerseys sold with his name on the back. He is one popular dude. Later

  11. It would be hard to confuse a ballplayer with an umpire. But that's what I've been saying about Angel Hernandez, too. Later
  12. This is not over. I wonder if Tejada can sue him for personal injury/ loss of income. Can the OJ Simpson civil suit be used in any way as a model for this? Just wondering. Later
  13. Curt Schilling is thinking "Why didn't I think of that, instead of just the sock?" Later
  14. The only reason that both MLB and the Union would do this (tell him that if he disputed the first claim they would find a third positive) is that the process is broken, and neither party wants to admit it. After all, they were under pressure from Congress and the public to put something in place. They did. And if it doesn't work or gives inaccurate results, there will be a lot of red faces. I'm not big into conspiracy theories, but given the parties involved (and don't forget to include the networks who stand to lose money too if the game goes out of favor) I can easily be convinced there is one here. Mejia just happened to be the unlucky victim. We all seem to agree that nobody can be THAT stupid. Later
  15. If you grew up on the streets of an East Coast city, you really didn't care about beach boys, hot cars or surfing. Our music tastes were folksier, grittier and/ or more soulful. So to us, the Beach Boys were like science fiction - you'd read about that stuff, but would never experience it. So I paid no mind to their music and had no interest in their (pre-social media ) personal lives. Later in life, I began to listen to their music and really appreciate their harmonies and rhythms. But still not enough for me to want to see a movie about their personal lives or struggles. It might be fun for others, but I'll pass. Later
  16. OK, as soon as I endeavor to compare apples to apples. That was his major league slash line. What was Carrillo's? Oh, he doesn't have one. So let's compare their high minors career numbers (Centeno's are .298/ .335/ .346 in 171 AAA games. Carrillo has none) In AA, they look like this: Carrillo 186 G, .263/ .333/ .367 and 28% success rate in catching base runners trying to steal. Centeno 107G .283/ .332/ .346 and a 39% career success rate in catching base runners trying to steal. You may remember that in his cuppa' with the Mets in 2013 (during which he hit .300) he was the ONLY major league catcher to throw out Reds' speedster Billy Hamilton. The comparison is very close and IMO Centeno's better throwing and the fact he hits lefty gives him the edge. And he is family, FAMILY! You don't stop loving someone when they leave the nest, do you? Now I'll move on. Later
  17. Maybe he was injured because of that odd looking pitching motion. (Or was he tossing a come-backer to first base?) Anyhow, third time may not be a charm this year with the bullpen crowded. He may ask for a release rather than take his AAA assignment out of Spring Training, and sign with another organization. Later
  18. Career minor (and Mexican) leaguer who hit under .250 in AA last year. Has thrown out around 28% of runners trying to steal. For that, and maybe a tad better production, they could have kept my kid, Juan Centeno. I'm still pissed. The only thing that might have made him interesting was a first name beginning with X. But we already had Xavier Nady, so there's nothing special there, either. I think Sandy will agree there's nothing special and Xorge will remain in the minors this year. LAter
  19. Yo needs a new translator. That was BAY of PIGS, not BUY a PIG. Later
  20. There are enough players on the roster who can hit but might not play defense well. Tejada can play defense. (at least infield. Soup can play the outfield) If there's only room on the roster for one of them, Tejada stays in a close call. But if he still needs time to recover from his broken leg, he'll start the season on the DL and Soup will be on the team. Later
  21. The Campbell vs Tejada thread was posted after this one, so I'll answer this one first. You can't argue the flexibility he brings to the lineup. And he can occasionally deliver a key hit. But if he has to play regularly, his deficiencies get exposed. I'm not sure he gats much of a chance this year, with the addition of infielders who play many positions. 45 G, 220/ 285/ 320 in 96 AB, possibly released mid year to make room on the roster. Later
  22. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: First cars, then three-wheelers... now he's splurging on world-class choppers. According to one of his companions that evening, the Mets outfielder "was in a bidding war" at an auction for the champion swine, with proceeds going to charity. No word on exactly how much Cespedes spent, but hogs typically sell for significantly less than Lamborghinis. He really is bringing home the bacon. Later
  23. Chris Rock was great. He dealt with the outcry about no people of color being nominated for major awards in a funny manner. But by the middle of the show, it looked like they had sent busses into West LA to find people of color to present awards. OK. we got it. There were no Black nominees for the major awards. But the Academy tried to over compensate for that like the guy with the small dick who buys the big truck with the gun rack. Academy, we got it. Other than that, the best moment of the show was Luis CK's introduction of the Best Short Documentary Award. We got it. Later
  24. The four women commenting on the red carpet fashions are about as appropriate and competent as Angel Hernandez running an umpiring school. Later
  25. Fman99 wrote: If I ever star in a pornographic film I will insist that it be titled "Honkballer." That proves that great minds must think alike. LOL! Whether or not he makes the club will depend on whether De Aza is traded before the season starts. Too early to tell. Later
