  1. Counsel will be able to talk to other teams when his contract expires on Oct 31. I'm sure there we'll hear about candidates other than the ones already mentioned while we're waiting. Later
  2. I rooting for a massive case of Dysentery to strike both teams, so they'll have to keep their crap in the clubhouse. Later
  3. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2023/10/07/a-true-fan-favorite/Something for Joe. Thank you. Baseball was more than his stats to us. He was fun. Later
  4. What's the grudge with the '69 Orioles, you bet on them and it didn't pay? Maybe because before the series they put the Mets down. Remember Frank Robinson saying "Who's Ron (SIC) Gaspar?" But unless he lost a bet like you said, I can't think of anything else. Later
  5. That catch still amazes me every time I see it. Every day should be Endy Chavez Day. Later
  6. =roger_that post_id=139050 time=1696703950 user_id=128] I still hold a grudge from 1969, sorry. Also Cubs, Yankees, Cards. A lot of baggage.
  7. The model in the Lindt commercial [CROSSOUT]makes me want to eat chocolate more than[/CROSSOUT] is hotter than the model in the Ghirardelli commercial. Later
  8. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=138892 time=1696527939 user_id=68] Brandon Nimmo did the exact same thing: sign with Boras in the off-season just before his option or walk year. Anyway, good for Pete.
  9. Since this is about dominant New York relievers, this popped up in my Facebook memories today- October 7, 2016 · The Mets had two Riveras on the field but none in the bullpen. I couldn't figure out what other thread it belonged in. Hurry back, Edwin. Later
  10. I didn't point to Atlanta as a “model to emulate.” Not that I necessarily disagree with it, but it's fair that they've been blessed with a a certain amount of luck in players having a willingness to sign arguably below-market value contracts versus testing free agency. Here's more about how they do it.(original Yahoo sports content) https://sports.yahoo.com/how-the-braves-were-built-inside-the-extensions-that-turned-atlanta-into-a-perennial-contender-190510965.html?fr=sycsrp_catchallhttps://sports.yahoo.com/how-the-braves-were-built-inside-the-extensions-that-turned-atlanta-into-a-perennial-contender-190510965.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall Later

One of the first orders of business for the new regime will be dealing with 16 arbitration eligible players. https://metsmerizedonline.com/salary-projections-for-mets-16-arbitration-eligible-players/https://metsmerizedonline.com/salary-projections-for-mets-16-arbitration-eligible-players/ Later

  13. I can't point to a particular suspicious move but there seemed to be a lot of roster moves (IL and other). I defer to Edgy, who dutifully maintains the roster, to tell us if this happened more or less than in prior years. Later
  14. The Post is saying that Buck wants to manage the Angels. (warning, lots of pop ups in the link) https://nypost.com/2023/10/05/buck-showalter-trying-hard-for-angels-interview-after-mets-firing/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=nypost_sports&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR2brVHLg0z2KY71OT2W1IvjUm5k0rOjM2LidG73r8Dtg90ABejNmE8BrLwhttps://nypost.com/2023/10/05/buck-showalter-trying-hard-for-angels-interview-after-mets-firing/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=nypost_sports&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR2brVHLg0z2KY71OT2W1IvjUm5k0rOjM2LidG73r8Dtg90ABejNmE8BrLw Later

  16. Want: GM Carlos Rodriguez who? This guy: https://www.mlb.com/rays/team/front-office/carlos-rodriguezhttps://www.mlb.com/rays/team/front-office/carlos-rodriguez I like the Rays' model of putting together a roster of players whose skills compliment each other. And he has talent evaluation chops. I would love to see what he could do with a large budget. Whoever it is, I would like someone who emulates the Atlanta approach - scouting and signing young talent, developing them and then locking them in to long term contracts. This article describes it in greater detail. https://sports.yahoo.com/how-the-braves-were-built-inside-the-extensions-that-turned-atlanta-into-a-perennial-contender-190510965.htmlhttps://sports.yahoo.com/how-the-braves-were-built-inside-the-extensions-that-turned-atlanta-into-a-perennial-contender-190510965.html Manager: Endy Chavez or some other link to the past. Someone who makes good in-game decisions as well as can manage the clubhouse. Will get: GM and manager -someone with whom Stearns has worked before. Wouldn't like: The long list includes Mattingly( either position), John Gibbons and Dusty Baker (manager) Later
  17. He was given a lot of money to spend on the finest ride, and he did. He bought a Mercedes-Benz. And then he put bald tires on it. Roster construction wasn't his strong point. Later
  18. So now that 75 is the official number, how did the CPF predictions go? Later
  19. =G-Fafif post_id=138839 time=1696441292 user_id=55] BB-Ref updates on a daily basis. I would expect to see the result posted there tomorrow and then feel total twelve under .500 finality from this season.
  20. After I read your rules for inclusion in the intro, I didn't read the actual roster. I fact, I covered my eyes lest I accidentally see it before lunch. But I promise to follow changes avidly as updates occur. A CPF tradition continues. Thanks Later
  21. I just put the number for SAS on my phone. As the time gets nearer, I'll book a flight to attend the award ceremonies. Later
  22. Every time I see his picture I wonder if Brett Baty is too young to grow a beard or if he shaved for the photographer. Thanks for all your hard work maintaining the roster for all of us who care. Later
  23. According to The Athletic: Tampa Bay hosted the Rangers for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series on Tuesday, and a paltry 19,704 showed up to Tropicana Field, marking the smallest playoff baseball crowd in a non-COVID year since Game 7 of the 1919 World Series. In that game over a century ago, the White Sox and Reds drew just 13,923 fans. Maybe the fans in Florida heard they were giving out books and stayed away. Later
  24. ... OOPS. Didn't realize there was a separate AL Thread. Moved my comment there. Later
