  1. Dream On was my favorite because it is mainly about the Mets, but the quote from Lupica takes a shot at the MFYs. Later
  2. Edgy MD wrote: Since Gross joined the Houston system, they have produced more players (58) via the draft than any other MLB organization. That's the number I was looking for. I'm convinced. I'm much more confident in his signing and I hope he does that well or the Mets. Based on the data of the moment anyhow. I got it. Based on the data of the moment. I got it. If one team has a 22-year-old centerfielder in the minors pumping up the organizational profile and another has a 20-year-old playing center in the majors and winning games, it's the first team that wins the prospect rating game. It's the second that actually best did their job scouting and developing. I hope he brings us some of those. Later
  3. A valid point. Later
  4. Player development, promotion and trades that contributed to those winning years were done by other people/groups. Just because you're going to a good hospital, it doesn't mean your doctor is the best in his specialty. I'm curious how many of his draftees/ signees have contributed to those winning years before I say he was a good hire. His job was to run the organization that scouts and signs the talent that goes into the pipeline. He was at his job for years and IMO there should have been at least a few of the good players he scouted still in their minor league system at any point in time. His job here is to find talent. Let's see how well he does it here before we say if it as a good or bad hire. Later
  5. MLB Pipeline's mid season (after the trade deadline)rankings had the Astros minor league system at 30th with no top 100 prospects. They ranked the Mets 11th, with 5 top 100 prospects. I understand the rankings factor in development once a player is drafted. But despite restrictions on the number of picks he had based on sanctions, that ranking should reflect on the job Gross did scouting those players they did draft, shouldn't it? Later
  6. Here's the full list: https://www.mlb.com/news/non-tendered-mlb-free-agents-2023-24https://www.mlb.com/news/non-tendered-mlb-free-agents-2023-24 Slim pickings. Later
  7. =kcmets post_id=141346 time=1700323212 user_id=53] I'll miss Vogie, he was huge.
  8. Good. I think Joey and smith will be key parts of the staff next year. Later
  9. Peterson is an interesting case. He is on the IL. I'm not sure if you can non-tender a player on the IL because he would lose his medical benefits (in his case rehab from surgery). I would think the MLBPA would be against that policy. Can a team do that under the current bargaining agreement? Later
  10. 8:00 Tonight is the deadline for making tender offers to eligible players. Here's the list:(And estimated 2024 salaries) 1B Pete Alonso $22 million DH Daniel Vogelbach $2.6 million RHP Drew Smith $2.2 million LHP David Peterson $2.0 million RHP Trevor Gott $2.0 million LHP Joey Lucchesi $2.0 million INF Luis Guillorme $1.7 million OF DJ Stewart $1.5 million RHP Jeff Brigham $1.1 million RHP Sam Coonrod $900,000 Which ones would you want to keep? Later
  11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Margot is one of those guys who underwhelms big expectations as a prospect and takes 5-6 years to get his game together. He's no superstar He's 29, so it seems his 5-6 years are up. He had a .686 OBP with four homers, and his salary is $10 million this year and $12 million option for next. That's a lot of money for bupkis. Of course, it he signs with the MFYs he will become another Paul O'Neil. Later
  12. Nothing about his track record so far that indicates he would be an adequate replacement for Pete in the lineup. Would have to be a helluva package with him only a part. Later
  13. I don't want Willie. If I'm Mendoza, I'm not sure I want a bench coach who not only has been a major league manager, but someone who did it with the Mets. I would feel every move would be under a microscope. So I would manage conservatively when it comes to steals, hit and run, pitching changes, etc., not knowing when the first "We shoulda' re-signed Willie" calls would start coming in to WFAN. It would be a pure recipe for second guessing. This isn't saying it won't happen with any other ex- manager, but I think it would be worse with Willie. Pass. Later
  14. Vic Sage wrote: gentleman? Them's fightin' words! You're right. Gentlemen don't lurk. Hey, welcome back. (by a vote of 12-9) Didn't know you were still looking in on us. (a much nicer term than lurking) Stay a while. Later
  15. 1) none of them played in the majors. 2) I haven't the foggiest idea. (something I would write if I didn't know the final Jeopardy question) Later
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I just found out that Seidler was the grandson of Walter O'Malley. If the family inherits the team, they OWE US, and should send Soto to the Mets at no cost. Later
  17. From Metsmerized.com: the Mets protected only Alex Ramírez from the Rule 5 draft by placing him on the 40-man roster. That leaves Justin Jarvis, Coleman Crow, Joander Suarez and others listed below to get picked to an MLB roster in the December 6 draft. Later
  18. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=141074 time=1700010792 user_id=68] Same for Joe Torre: one of the best managerial runs ever as Yankee manager and a dreadful run as manager of the Mets.
  19. Prospectors gets my vote because they didn't spell the words Pfielding and Pfiasco. Later
  20. My question from the back of the room: "Does this hiring mean that the Mets will be able to hit with runners in scoring position?" "Next question". Later
  21. I don't think it will take a lot to get him. The Pads are over a barrel - he wants out, they want to lower payroll and move on. Are our prospects better that other teams' prospects? That's a different issue. But, as CF noted, a package of Vientos and/or Mauricio and/or Baty, maybe one of the highly rated AA/AAA pitchers (Vasil, or Smith) and Parada (now that Alvarez has made it, Parada's value to the Mets is lower). Parada is one one of the top catching prospects in the minors, but may have to change positions. That wouldn't weaken the minor organization much and might even help to simplify competition at some infield positions. Throw a package like that at them, then gauge their response and make adjustments. As they used to say in the old neighborhood, "can't hoit". Later
  22. SNY announcing that Carlos Beltran will stay with the organization and be the the Special Assistant under Stearns. I'm hoping that will be an audition for the full GM role once Stearns sees how well they can work together. Later
  23. IIRC we had a similar discussion about Craig Swan's year in which he led the NL in ERA and went just 9-6 in almost 30 starts. Later
  24. His line so far:8 G (0 GS), 7.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER (0.00 ERA), 4 BB, 7 K There are 3 or 4 holds here, but he hasn't been given a save opportunity. Later
  25. Happy Birthday! Later
