  2. Goes back to a famous Supreme Court decision in a Federal League case in 1919, and the exemption has withstood years of more recent challenges. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-11/baseball-keeps-antitrust-exemption-as-high-court-rejects-appealshttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-11/baseball-keeps-antitrust-exemption-as-high-court-rejects-appeals
  3. This also means its Ultimate Mets Database's 20th birthday. As I relayed before the 1st time I ever saw that site I was in the very late stages of finishing up the writing, maybe even the night or two before. I'd been googling Mets stuff like crazy for weeks and when UMDB showed up I was like, where did this come from?
  4. Nice story in the Post today about longshot starter invitee Hector Santiago, who it is reported grew up a Mets fan and admirer of fellow lefty John Franco. I had Santaigo in a fantasy league once and he didn't completely suck, or may have cost me the first division, I dunno. Walks too many guys. Was a 2015 All-Star!
  5. we talked about this in the other room http://www.thecranepool.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=27479http://www.thecranepool.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=27479 I just wanted to say I finally saw it, and it sucked
  6. He'll be key in the stretch run. Thank you.
  7. =dgwphotography post_id=3250 time=1550780505 user_id=78] I think he'll bust out with a complete year. I think he rushed back too soon last year, and that was a contributing factor in his rough start. .310 33 95
  8. Oh I totally agree with this. Hitters are much better at wasting what they don't like, all a part of working the count. Cool solution: Each team can place 2 "fielders" in each level of the stadium. They don't get time to position themselves between pitches but can freely move anywhere in the foul-territory seating areas. If the designated "catcher" catches the ball it's an out. They'd play to tendencies and run around the park, fly up the stairs when the power hitters get up, knocking over kids, it would be great. Designated crowdfielders cannot bat in a game. But they are in uniform and members of the active roster selected before each game. When their team is at bat, they are required to chat with fans and sign autographs.
  9. I'm totally into Walker Lockett for no reason other than his unusual name. Walker "The Rocket" Lockett. Look out, yall.
  10. My plan for the rotation would have been to obtain the best starter available and make him the 5th, but I hopeful the rotation depth isn't our major issue. There's Gslugo, Flexy, Walker Lockett, Kyle Dowdy, Oswalt to start, I'm sure we'll see one or more make a few starts this year. N4N, Vargas figured it out toward the end last season, you could do worse as a 5th guy going in
  11. Seems to me it's really unusual for a big-league team, especially one with aspirations to compete, to have uncertainty at first base but that's becoming a kind of weird Met tradition. I have no idea how things will work out. It does seem like the the club may have soured a bit of Smith but as noted above they haven't sold low on him. Alonso looks promising but so too did Smith, who's even younger. They almost have complimentary skills (contact issues vs. OBP; doubles hitter/power hitter, LH/RH, good glove/shitty one). And with Lowrie already complaining of a knee injury maybe Frazier doesn't mix as 1B
  12. There is nothing more disheartening then seeing a newly added guy injure himself during Spring Training. It is the shortest route to ruin.
  13. Shut up, Chicklo, you glorified towel boy. Now schedule me a massage.
  14. Someone else just tweeted that when Manny's SD contract is up, he'll be younger than Cano is right now.
  15. That's not a bad plan then again I'm in favor of most trade-Matz scenarios
  16. 10 years, 300 millz according to multiple reports
  17. Manny = Padres 10/300
  18. I'll go with that 25 line. 275/305/410 14-72
  19. Put more effort into his beard than his fitness. Also, Sandy-tainted. Hechaverria isn't about to blossom into a legit productive player but is the kind of guy who could handle a few weeks at the big leagues if needed.
  20. Mick really disappointed me last season, but I'll give him a Mulligan. I would say he is vulnerable if things don't work out and things might not work out.
  21. hi Jeff, say hi to Fred W for us.
  22. Could youse guys up there take a better shot at this exercise? My crystal ball is cloudy until they resolve the Lagares situation but it seems to indicate Laggy will be dealt to the first team whose CF is injured in spring training. Worried that this guy's underwhelming numbers take a hit in CitiField but will say brings some value anyway, he gets about 300 PAs, hits 12 homers, OBPs at 300, steals a bunch of bases and brings some brotherly soul to the club. Makes friends with Dom Smith and they hang out around town.
  23. I don't forsee much for him but those invariably wind up being the guys you see. They also issued a dignified uni number (7) so I'm not crossing him off the list unless or until we sign Bryce Harper, then I'll reassess. Six games including one start, 11 PAs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 2-10 including a double in his first Mets at-bat and a run scored. He'll get released, but re-signed with Syracuse, then get injured, and then retire.
  24. I thought Josh got a dream job in San Diego? Or did I just imagine that? This really makes it seem like the Mets whacked him
