  1. C'mon Gzelly. Prove the Mets didn't need to move heaven and Earth for a brand name closer
  2. This broke during the game: https://nypost.com/2019/05/31/mets-analyst-nelson-figueroa-fired-from-sny/?utm_source=twitter_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site%20buttons&utm_campaign=site%20buttonshttps://nypost.com/2019/05/31/mets-analyst-nelson-figueroa-fired-from-sny/?utm_source=twitter_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site%20buttons&utm_campaign=site%20buttons I'm also gonna get drunk and demand to appear on Baseball Night in NY.
  3. That was a sacky appearance by Seth Saturnballs
  4. What was the umpire delay about?
  5. Phoenix meetings of Mets and Dbaggs start tonight. It occurred to me I knew very little about them. Tonight's starter is Jon Duplantier who sounds like a Canadian but is actually a Texan born in Delaware. Was a third round draft pick a few years ago out of Rice U and is considered a prospect. This will be his first ever MLB start, he's done okay in 5 relief appearances. I know of this guy only because I came across him desperately seeking $1 near-major starting pitcher prospects in the CPF fantasy league (tonight he opposes Zack Wheeler who's also on my team). Du-PLON-tee-ay is 24 years old, wears goggles and reportedly got into Yale where he would have been their QB but chose baseball instead. Saturday Night (10pm) is another Cy Young Special as deGrom opposes Zack Greinke, who's having a good year so far. On Sunday (4 pm start) it's Matz vs. Merrill Kelly. Kelly is another rookie RHP from Houston but he's 30 years old. Spent several seasons in the Rays system then was released and signed in Korea, where he played for the last 3 years and was left to work out his problems in a foreign land. "Sometimes over there, you have to be your own pitching coach….You have to navigate the waters on your own sometimes. That forced me to start to look for things I didn't before because you have to fix it." Kelly's had a mix of good and bad outings so far. Manager Torey Lovullo was Todd Zeile's teammate at UCLA in the 80s. He was Manager of the Year in his 2017 rookie year. Wilmer Flores is on the DL with will miss the series with a foot injury. What else do you need to know?
  6. If Washington hadn't already pissed on it, they could have a team in Montreal
  7. It would be justice were the Mets to score 4 times off Janssen before 2 outs are acheived
  8. Ramos with the infield pinch hit. Altherr running for him.
  9. N4n, Vargas getting r done, if a little ugly
  10. I think Familia 1.0 and pre-trade Diaz demonstrated the best way to get closers is to make young guys with good arms closers, then use them to fleece other teams to erase whatever other mistakes you've made. The Omar Way is to make the mistake by acquiring the closer in the first place. If we're not knocking on the door in July I hope Brodie has the sense to flip Diaz for whatever he can bring back but good luck with that, Lunchie.
  11. Have we talked about young Jack Leiter? This is a nice interview. When is Al going to the Mets HoF?
  12. It was as stupid now as it was any of the other numerous times Omar wasted Fred's money on a closer. The Mets never learn
  13. I read this morning that word spread thru the Dodgers bench after the 1st HR that Diaz' stuff *wasn't* good last night. I dunno, I didn't watch and don't wanna see it. But that's why I suggested my radical bullpen coach should overrule manager structure
  14. That settles it: Voting for Iwo Jima is like urinating on Gil Hodges grave while also giving the finger to our brave men and women in uniform and crapping in Arlington cemetary and wiping with the April 1970 issue of McCall's magazine
  15. Tom and Nancy are like the parents of the entire organization. The photo is awesome, the design is clean and tasteful and extremely contemporary for its moment. Jock has a terrible logo. If you saw it today you'd be shocked if it weren't a gay-lifestyle magazine. It may have been then. The image is inspiring and well-done (I like that its a mound they're plating the flag in) but in the end it's a cliche that misappropriates and mixes war and sports. Tom and Nancy famously bought a front-page ad in the New York Times calling for peace in the turbulent era during which these covers came to life. They themselves would have voted for domestic bliss over war at work. Do the right thing for America
  16. I thought it was safe when Fammy got thru the 8th. Someday a team (probably not the appearance- and brand-marketing-obsessed Mets) will have a good bullpen by making the bullpen coach the ultimate decisionmaker on which of his guys gets which assignments.
  17. Good thing we gave up our best prospect for Diaz. After all he was quite the stud with Seattle last year
