  1. How much you wanna bet the guy who built Frazier's cul-de-sac by the woods leveled a turkey habitat to do so
  2. =G-Fafif post_id=26292 time=1573365656 user_id=55] Jeremy Hefner emerges as leading candidate to take over as pitching coach (Phil Regan's status was always interim). Terry Collins won't be sliding back into the dugout, but he'll take Carlos's calls as special assistant. Jerry Narron revealed as bench coach possibility because a picture Brodie tweeted of Carlos signing his contract included a notebook with Narron's bona fides visible tothe curious.
  3. Joel Sherman's assessment of Mickey as a "poor actor who could not remember his lines and stumbled through ad-libs" rung true with me, and I think he gets to the Mets motives in this column pretty skillfully: https://nypost.com/2019/11/03/mets-risky-media-obsession-put-carlos-beltran-over-the-top/https://nypost.com/2019/11/03/mets-risky-media-obsession-put-carlos-beltran-over-the-top/ (speaking of media Ceetar probably doesn't respect)
  4. I'm not as pessimistic as those guys but I agree there's something fishy with how the Mets go about about things, at some level it's a giant compromise and comes with lots of questions they seem to believe will be washed away by the sheer heat of the announcement.
  5. BAD CHAIR DAY is about as great a tabloid hed as you can come up with, so good that neither the DN or Snoozeday also had it. F BOMBS probably won't win but that's a creative cover too. The blackboard writing is very funny. My only issue with ARCTIC BLAST, which I voted for, is that it covers such an inconsequential event for the team. It was a nice thing for the fans and for Pete but it was somewhat artificial: It was literally the only game in town that day, and a made-for-TV event staged for visibility. The photo and the treatment are terrific but you know, its a batter not wearing a helmet with stage lighting
  6. One takeaway from this year is that Newsday generally upped their back-cover game. They are still too inconsistent and still make some odd choices but they execute the typeface and design better than they used to while still maintaining an overall brand approach, yada, yada, yada. Rare head-to-head victory over the same idea that the NYDN had for them in this round.
  7. https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/808060156630036480/Eskxd3LX_400x400.jpg> This guy's gonna make you forget all about Walker Lockett
  8. You know, I saw the void at 15 and wondered why. Tebow did not occur to me. Odd that they'd clear space for a guy not on the 40
  9. VARGAS BABY is very good imo, got a vote from me. Tells the story, clever enough on the headline, good picture as mentioned, classic NYDN look PETE OF THE MOMENT doesn't look like a tabloid newspaper; it looks like the New York Times magazine or something. Get that crap outta here
  10. Yeah that's what I'm referencing and I'd do it again
  11. Yeah I'd trade our new manager for 5 years of Wheeler
  12. Whatever happened to "If it bleeds, it leads?" I may have to report you to the Journalmalism Guild
  13. Now we're into it. Several excellent covers in this round which would easily trounce nearly every cover we've so far considered: MICKEY MOUTH CLUB. Brill.
  14. Gonslaves sounds like a guy. ,Big lefty
  15. Good point. I think a couple of covers this season made references to that non-existent name
  16. The struggles of Mickey in many ways was the story of this year. I voted for 3 Mickey covers
  17. Gilmartin and Seth Lugo are also fitting themselves for white Nationals uniforms.
  18. Pretty sure Beltran will be the first Mets manager ever inducted into the Hall of Fame while he's managing. Will make it a difficult task to whack him in that run-up. http://www.mbtn.net/?p=3168http://www.mbtn.net/?p=3168
  19. I'll get on board eventually. This wasn't the plan I'd have had.
  20. Not a problem with him, but understood the Terry Era was over for a reason.
  21. I wonder about the players, there's not many left but significant ones ... Conforto, Syndy, degrom -- who thought or were made to feel, that Collins wasn't right for them. They will likely say the right things, but...
  22. No, Terry is Fred's guy. Fred loves "white haired baseball men"
  23. Well if the ship won't sail without Terry, why did they fire him in the first place? Alderson fired Terry; the Mets fired Alderson. And the club has been erasing his legacy at every turn ever since. First they hamstrung him by hiring all "new" senior advisors to tell Fred what he wanted to hear (Omar); then they starved him for resources; then they found an excuse to let him go (cancer, plus the rotten performance of the only guys he could afford to sign like Bruce and Walker) then they give away practically every decent prospect he acquired for a releif pitcher and a guy they think is going to sell more tickets.
  24. =HahnSolo post_id=25731 time=1572635983 user_id=63] I could do without Terry's return, tbh.
  25. All managers are a disaster in waiting but this one looks especially precarious. Is this a stealth rehiring of Terry, only without the things that made Terry attractive (OK game management, good relationship with the writers)? How committed will Beltran really be with all the $$ he's got? When things get tough, and they will, is this a guy who's going to hangin there? What if Terry and Beltran don't get along? This smells like a stinky-ass compromise from miles away
