  1. A video also surfaced this morning of Joey Cora remarking how Beltran was the MFYs most valuable acquisition (wink!) after they racked up dozens of runs over two games during the London series. https://twitter.com/CLoprestiWFAN/status/1217430561079418882
  2. They fired Mickey for a lot of reasons but being bad with the press (occasionally hostile, often awkward) was one of them. Beltran is "good" with the press inasmuch as he can comfortably lie to them. Fuck him and Trump
  3. Beltran is impressive as he can lie in 2 languages https://nypost.com/2019/11/03/mets-risky-media-obsession-put-carlos-beltran-over-the-top/https://nypost.com/2019/11/03/mets-risky-media-obsession-put-carlos-beltran-over-the-top/ Carlos Beltran: Astros stole signs in 2017, but not illegally By Joel Sherman SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Carlos Beltran, a member of the 2017 Astros, denied knowledge of a camera that his team allegedly used to electronically steal signs that season, claiming that the World Series champions stole signs organically and legally. “I'm not aware of that camera,” Beltran told The Post in a text message exchange. “We were studying the opposite team every day.” A report on The Athletic, which included whistleblowing quotes from former Astro right-hander Mike Fiers, described a camera that was positioned in the outfield at Minute Maid Park. According to the story, Astros personnel deciphered and relayed signs to hitters through a banging-on-trash-can signal. Beltran, who is well-regarded for his baseball IQ and was named Mets manager earlier this offseason, insisted the Astros only stole signs from standing on second base. “We took a lot of pride studying pitchers [on] the computer. That is the only technology that I use and understand,” he said. “It was fun seeing guys get to the ballpark to look for little details. “The game of baseball for years, guys have given location and if the catchers get lazy and the pitcher doesn't cover the signs from second base [then] of course players are going to take advantage. I don't call that cheating. I call that using small details to take advantage. I think baseball is doing a great job adding new technology to make sure the game is even for both teams. It's easy to blame someone when they win.” Astros manager AJ Hinch declined comment on the report.
  4. I'd whack him now. Even without this scandal he was an iffy choice IMO but I suppose to be fair they oughta come clean as to what he'd revealed and what he hadn't. The president may get away with lying to the media but Carlos Beltran shouldn't
  5. They should fire him now and fire the idiot who hired him too
  6. Don't have the energy to finish in 11th place again, much less build em up to finish 6th
  7. I have vague memories of it ending badly for Carrasco with the mets, like recriminations and such. IIRC, he was sandy Alderson's first move as GM

  9. I'm bailing on the Lunchladies they're up for sale
  10. Beltran was unqualified to be a manager even without this scandal, so I think the Mets will leave him in place.
  11. Had an ungraceful, leaning-over, one-handed swing which was about the least aesthetically pleasing swings I can remember any Met having. That said I wanted to hate Frazier more than I actually wound up hating him. He was disappointing in the sense that acquiring him exhibited so little imagination on the part of the Mets even if by the end, on balance, he'd done pretty much he was asked to have done. I'm also pleased he's moving on, and to a place where ugly white guys are so often heroes and wild turkeys are shot to death
  12. Jake Hager, 26 yo RH-hitting utility infielder. Failed top draft pick of Rays, since in Brewers and Indy ball, career .259/.312/.376 hitter in 800 milb games. Also saw where they whacked Sam Haggarty
  13. An MLB team really needs to explore that claret-and-sky blue color scheme so many EPL clubs use. To the extent its interesting the clubs have more leeway to make their own uni-deals. In MLB that would be rough on the small market clubs
  14. Double-entredre on a headline generally beats a pun, if executed well, and this one is. Also a good match for the photo, highlights the first happening of a weird new thing with the Mets etc etc. STREAKERS: It's a winner.
  15. Hoping Alonso doesn't go too Hollywood-Harvey this year. That his face won't get him a lot of commercials is a positive I guess.
  16. it's awful
  17. Gotta like the Babe but geez, just 2 presentations?
  18. How about the resplendent free agent acquisition, Anthony Swarzak
  19. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=29229 time=1578083349 user_id=68] That's what I'd be listening to in 1973 if I had older tastes. How'd you know that?
  20. Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
  21. I've said this before lots of times but to me Schneid was one of the biggest disappointments for the Mets. I was excited about him having seen the way he played when he was a youngun with Montreal/Washington: Really took charge the way you want a catcher to, could change the game from behind the plate. But with the Mets it was like he lost that drive. He was probably more banged up than he ever let on but at times he looked the opposite of the steady-D, take-charge guy we thought we were getting. He came off almost lazy.
