  1. I think Jay was trying to relay Davey's combativeness. He was probably the most combative manager we ever had
  2. I kinda wanna see it happen just for the shits, giggles and 18 different pitches
  3. He probably did. I was mostly admiring that he never really lost that short memory mentality that some ballplayers seem to require of themselves to have any chance to succeed as much as they did. They sort of have to tell themselves little lies in order to deal.
  4. He was only 34 when he hung it up. Plus, despite what he says in the article he was a free agent, but nobody hired him. Also was available at age 25 to be expansion drafted by San Diego and Montreal, and they didn't bite
  5. I don;t believe it was the 1st game I ever went to, but the first I have a clear memory of attending was the Don Hahn-Theodore collision game in 73. My dad made a point of saying we'd go to that one so I'd see Mays and Aaron before it was too late to do so. Looking up the boxscore now, neither guy started but both entered in the late innings, both were 1-for-1 with singles. Frayed Knot had the poster that came with Sports Illustrated commemorating the 714 game tacked to the wall in his room
  6. Krane. Gotta love that old coot and how he casually buries Mickey, Rogers Hornsby and Yogi. Would have liked to have heard more about his doomed attempt to buy the Mets and a more honest assessment of his role in the interesting career he had but Krane is Krane is Krane. He's actually more insightful than he knows talking about other guys.
  7. Yeah, this one hurts more than most. The "Hank Aaron Special" cards of the 74? set were like the first things that thrilled me as a baseball fan beyond baseball itself.
  8. I was never tied to a specific guy other than the obvious need to improve RH hitting and up-the-middle defense, and to the extent we could have a reliable Cano-ish presence in the lineup. Lindor in that sense was the perfect guy. A RH hitting CF who can go get it--whoever that is--will also help but doesn;t have to be George.
  9. Steve J. Rogers Jr.: Gadfly social media influencer and sports personality
  10. I just like saying Jackie Bradley Junior. JBJ. Sounds like a ballplayer or a flyweight boxer or a soul singer. Love it. JBJ. LGM. YGB. JBJ.
  11. Lots of internet chatter that this ungrateful prick Springer is going to Canada.
  12. This fake deal was spring 76 and planted as Mets' leverage to get Seaver to agree to a new contract. Word was it Sutton and either Joe Furguson or John Hale, reserve outfielder and .214 career hitter for Sutton. Sutton also required re-signing and as the above article mentions had the right to veto.
  13. Traded for Tom Seaver once but it turned out to be fake News. http://www.beta.mbtn.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clipping_68044980-pdf-724x1024.jpg>
  14. Yeah that's not a big leap to make. A powerful guy who does does dumb shit like this probably also has substance abuse issues
  15. Waldstein obviously didn't get the "don't touch your face" COVID memo. Carig reports from a LIDS store at the mall yet is not wearing a hat. Carig brings his a strong body language to his questioning, looking directly at the subject and with an expression that says "you have to answer for this." Good fundies
  16. Pandemic has forced Healey to convert his front closet into a home office
  17. Toscano sets his thermostat at 83 degrees, or just coming off a workout. Sherman evidently likes working with his laptop of the carpet, standing above it.
  18. Davidoff reporting live from his bathroom, in his undershirt
  19. Well ESPN (despite MFS's irrelevant remark upthread) did it's job in holding tight on this for more than 2 years but just knowing that much makes it reasonable to assume this could have come out, and there were several parties who knew. My feeling though was that it'd be a signal of how this guy has a demented perspective on interpersonal relationships and that could have bled into his day-to-day style in a way that would strike co-workers as odd and might come out in a thorough vetting
  20. Disturbing that this was something of a known secret that the Mets couldn't manage to get wind of.
  21. Struck me as a guy who didn't take care of himself (said as much if insensitively in the press conference thread).
  22. =Gwreck post_id=54264 time=1611034090 user_id=56] Zero percent chance. Fire him and move on. No need for the distraction.
  23. My favorite part was the drone transport, plus the cardboard cut-outs
