Plus, it's a symbol of replacing wild dogs, flood potholes, and what not with something a little bit more aesthetically pleasing. True, but compare a mall to what was first being proposed back when the redevelopment of WP was first discussed. The Wilpons started with dreams of their very own faux Brooklyn ballyard neighborhood, Wrigleyville or Yawkey Way, or Jerome Ave, and with a prospective sporting arena to perhaps lure the Islanders/Nets/a soccer team to Flushing (the latter probably was more of a pipe dream, but would have fit in with the bars, shops, restaurants and hotels that were the centerpieces of the plans) and now, just a shopping mall? gFAT8_5hPWA Yeah...no. Kind of would rather see the rows and rows of chop shops than a building with grossly expensive merchandise gets sold, even if you put a Target or Best Buy in there.

And I could wear a Blue Jays, Indians or Brewers cap and not get any crap from fans. I guess it just wasn't as toxic as it is today. Not to play amateur psychoanalyst, but I'd wager it also wasn't a "thing" to rip in opponents, especially if they aren't playing in the same stadium. And most of the fights generally stemmed from just the usual reasons fights break out rather than blaming it on a fan being in the wrong place. Don't know whom to entirely blame for this kind of behavior, ESPN for constantly driving home the "rivalry" to the point where I'm sure a match up between the teams 20 games apart in the standings will be treated as if the division title is on the line. Hell, Bobby Valentine has a paid spot on ESPN radio in New York! What does that say about how they treat the Red Sox. Makes you wonder though about how much shit people take these days just for wearing a cap or a hat when the team isn't playing. I usually approach those fans in a good natured way usually saying "(chuckle) shouldn't you be in (wherever that team is that day)?" but I tried that bit on a Phillie fan one time at Citi and he looked at me with a cold "don't fuck with me" glare and said "Walk away." Even after I explained I was just having some good natured fun and conversation. Did have another experience outside a ballpark here in the Westchester area one time that was similar when I saw a child in a Chipper Jones Braves shirt outside of a movie theatre. I walked up to him, same manner chuckling and smiling and saying how it was pretty bold to be wearing that shirt around these parts. Kid stared at me blankly and didn't respond, the mother (or a woman whom I'd assume was his mother) scurried him away as I was explaining what I was talking about, saying, it looks like he's a Braves fan. Her response while walking away was "No...no...he's not." Almost as if the kid had real stupid DB shit thrown at him that was worse than a simply saying it's a bold move to be wearing that shirt in this town.
  3. From the, gee I should have asked this back on Wednesday department, any chance any of the panels were recorded for Hofstra's library, and possible non-student/employee viewing?
  4. Sorry...can't resist the urge... ehem...that's why Greg is a Prince of a guy! (ducks) =

He (and his possible steroid use) have been mentioned in plenty of places. Here, for instance. I meant that more in the line of anywhere in a seemingly legit fashion beyond idle columnist/radio host speculation.
  6. Ceetar wrote: wasn't he in the Mitchell report or something? I can never keep all these lists straight. Probably should be in, yes. Canseco's book. But Bagwell and Piazza have never been mentioned anywhere (well, except for Murray Chass' work with Piazza), and yet Bagwell has gotten lumped in, and I'm pretty much expecting the same to happen with Piazza as well. OE: I meant Murray Chass. Whom started the "blog that isn't a blog" after ending his print career.
  7. Click on my sig around 6pm EST to see a blogger attempt to live blog from Citi Field on his mobile device!
  8. SNY promo in the same vein. Beautiful in so many ways, though two not quite as beautiful things caught my notice: 1) In an effort to paint the Mets in blue and eschew the black (only Niese is seen in black; I saw an alternate cut in which Matt Harvey was used in that spot), the Piazza era exists only in one still photo. And no glimpse of Franco in his HOF year? I'm always fascinated at how history is cut and recut. 2) Gorgeous shot of the last swing at Shea Stadium...but who wants to think how that ended? Still, Amazin' work. John Stearns, for cryin' out loud. I like the shot of that mural that used to adorn the exposed LF corner ramps. I find it slightly Soviet-esque that they removed one strip of it early last season, and it took until the offseason to remove the whole darn thing.
  9. If only this season was going to be more like the 1969 vintage, rather than the 1962 vintage...
  10. The Ted McGliney of AL baseball.
  11. Casey Stengel, now talk about using photos from the same photo reel with the last two!

Of course. First thing that popped in to my mind. They're one of the few teams that's won the World Series with the 5th best record in the league, so they've already got the practice. Cee, I'm trying very hard to imagine that the 2000 baseball season ended the night the Mets won the LCS vs the Cardinals. STOP REMINDING ME! And sadly, it wouldn't be the last time the Mets got beat by a team that won fewer than 90 on their way to a Worlds Championship...
  13. Never mind, green is the padding color, seats are blue.
  14. I don't think so, images I've been seeing has those seats being greenish...
  15. Here is how it looks on the uniform
  16. Also stuff like this, which I do own, should not count, even though yes it's part of the base set! 2010 Short Print special. I believe it replaces a checklist card: Or this, which interestingly enough is listed just under "New York Mets" in Beckett's guide, no mention of Tom Seaver, despite probably picturing him due to the whole "Franchise" bit:
  17. Sorry Met Guy, Eddie's cardboard debut was in 1963, as I said in this multi-team rookie card, that also includes Tony Oliva's first card: Also not represented...yet anyway, is Tug's debut which for some reason was quite high in price for my taste at this time when I went digging for some of the other 1960s cards recently, probably was in one of the high number series of that year: And of course this white whale of my collecting career, FWIW, this is just an example of card abuse:
  18. Still waiting for some Hodges and Stengel cards to show up... BTW, it is interesting that there is a member of the Mets Hall of Fame in every Topps Base Set through 2003. Of course Franco and Kranepool (Has a mixed team rookie card in 1963, which means Met record 18 total regular base set appearances) are mostly the culprits for that factoid. And hopefully there will be a few 1998-2001 Mets, as well as a couple from 2006 in future Met HOF inductions.
  19. Finally, the latest inductee:
  20. After the doing the Carter collage, I thought it'd be fun to do the same with other members of the Mets Hall of Fame. Using only regular Topps Base Set and Trading cards done during their careers (no Turn Back The Clocks, Record Breakers, All Stars, Highlights, Leaders, etc)

  22. Edgy DC wrote: Not massive, but there certainly was a snipe or two. True, but we aren't talking about "How Do You Sleep" versus "Too Many People" level of sniping or the idea that the hatchet was never fully buried before Carter's passing as I've seen that discussed on Beatle message boards, if John and Paul were still estranged and bitter enemies by 12/8/80.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: The lefty-righty thing would be backwards but there's something there. Heh, plus there was never a massive falling out that caused each to snipe at each other through very public channels...oh like songs.
