  3. RA may steal the June Cranepool Forum Schaefer Pitcher of The Month award from him, but Johan is getting a Key from the City of New York, and SNY will cover it at 6:30 on Friday the 22nd.
  4. Was the 40th the only other time the Mets dabbled with doing an "official" All-Time team? FWIW tonight, 6/21, SNY is airing the event from the 17th that unveiled the team from 7-9. Also on Monday from 6:30-7 SNY is re-airing their Top 50 Mets that they aired back in late May. Something I also wonder if it is the first time the Mets dabbled in doing such a ranking on an official level. BTW, that 40th anniversary squad was revealed at Shea, with a snazzy card set giveaway by Fleer. Kind of disappointing that they didn't approach Topps to do the same with the 50th anniversary squad. Well, that I know of so far.
  5. It also provided one of the most funniest examples of a media member pulling a hamstring as he backpedled off of his original stance. A sports show host as the deal was going down was all gun ho about both deals the Friday that they were going down with the attitude of "I don't know Kazmir, I don't know Peterson, I do know Benson and I do know Zambrano [yes he was talking about Victor, not Carlos], so these were smart deals." Mets get swept by the Braves that weekend, including Kris Benson's Met debut, opinion across the board was pretty much that the Mets had completely mis-read their chances and should have gotten more for Kazmir if they were going to trade him, and he opens his Monday show declaring the season over and the Mets should start looking to trade off veterans in waiver wire deals.
  6. Maybe the artist was somewhat akin to those whom wished the Mets get rid of the black as the Giants did wear blue caps from 1936-1946 http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/uniforms.asp?league=NL&city=New+York&lowYear=1936&highYear=1946&sort=year&increment=12 But now that I think of it... Maybe this is like Lois Lane's hair. Comic book colorists would often use blue to represent black. Look at the old comics and Lois' hair often has blue highlights. The Black Panther's costume is another example. Apropos of nothing, but did hear a funny debate about this on a sports talk show, where the hosts were debating if in fact Superman had blue in his hair. Of course neither host knew about this mid 1990s development: But rather stuff like this Which is one thing in the confines of a silly debate to kill some time on local radio, but the funniest part is that a caller called with "proof" of Superman's blue hair because of a thumbnail sketch bio on a Six Flags ride that gave Superman's hair color as "black with blue highlights."

G-Fafif wrote: Changes from 40th (fan vote) to 50th (panel): SS -- Buddy to Jose 3B -- HoJo to David OF -- Mookie and Lenny out, Cleon and Carlos in LHRP -- Franco to Tug MGR -- Gil to Davey Also 40th team included Rusty and Krane as PHs. SS and 3B as well as Beltran in the OF are obvious. Gil to Davey, Lenny to Cleon and Franco to Tug are clearly a case of fan voting being overridden. I wonder how much of an upset it was considered for Franco to get the nod.
  8. Ex-Met and entire Braves alumni organization gets punked by someone posing as an ex-Met! http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/impostor-crashes-braves-alumni-1456183.html
  9. Also, here's a weird one: Guy out on Long Island runs a Mets Collector's Club, and they regularly trot out a handy Mets Collectables checklist every couple of years, now it's in a CD-ROM format. Well, anyway, in that set's listing they list a card that supposedly shows Burris in his Met uniform. I have yet to see this variation. I think there may be another variation that has been corrected to say Cubs as well.
  10. Sunday afternoon in Da Bronx. Good time as any to put Rat Face back into retirement!
  11. Pics I took of the ceremony

There might be something to that..........................nah. Well lets see, there's the NL MVP thing... No Met has hit 4 homers in a game, but that's even rarer than a perfect game...which is also something you COULD latch on to... =
  13. It took until regular season game 8,020. Kind of adds to everything that the Hall of Fame logos were on the grass of the basepaths.
  14. I'm mildly wondering if somehow that wall and padding is actually harder than the original fence. Probably not, but, heh, just another for Citi Field/Mets critics to pile onto their "Why Citi Sucks" narratives.
  15. SI Metman, for being the user who swiped the Franco mugshot from UMDB, causing Old Ben to nearly go all Clobberin' Time on this corner of the Met web.
  16. Strange as it may sound, the 4 Home Runs In One Game Club may be the only HR related club that did not explode with new membership during the steroid era. Well, you COULD interpret it that way as 5 of the 16 have come since the start of the 1990s, but when compared to stuff like the single season and all time total "clubs" it could be considered a surprise that it only happened 5 times in the last 20 years. 1894 Bobby Lowe Braves 1896 Ed Delahanty Phillies 1932 Lou Gehrig Yankees 1936 Chuck Klein Phillies 1948 Pat Seerey White Sox 1950 Gil Hodges Dodgers 1954 Joe Adcock Braves 1959 Rocky Colavito Indians 1961 Willie Mays Giants 1976 Mike Schmidt Phillies 1986 Bob Horner Braves 1993 Mark Whiten Cardinals 2002 Mike Cameron Mariners 2002 Shawn Green Dodgers 2003 Carlos Delgado Blue Jays 2012 Josh Hamilton Rangers
  17. Hoboken International Film Festival 2012 Yes I realize it's in Jersey City, despite it being called Hoboken. Last year it was in Teaneck, so I guess they figure "close enough." A friend of mine has a hand in couple of short films in the fest. His co-producer wrote and directed two shorts in the Sunday evening programs. But check out the entire slate, should be...entertaining at least.
  18. Vic Sage wrote: i've accepted Joss Whedon as my personal savior. Well, except for the fact that he HAD to pull one of HIS weary assed tropes of storytelling where it really didn't belong.
  19. I agree with Vic. And no has nothing to do with what happened to my namesake as a fallout of it = Too many characters to introduce, and a major part if it is still very much under the control of another studio, I don't think you can do that with any other Marvel character except Peter Parker.
