Mine is the head talking about players and managers coming and going. This thread lost the lede stories: There will be a two-night documentary on ESPN celebrating the '86 Mets. G-Fafif is in this documentary. You can decide which is more exciting.

 5. Speaking of team HOFs, similarly to Herr and Hernandez being honored for their pre-Met days, David Wright, Jay Payton and Preston Wilson will be inducted into Binghamton's Hall https://www.themediagoon.com/2021/08/david-wright-jay-payton-preston-wilson.html?m=1https://www.themediagoon.com/2021/08/david-wright-jay-payton-preston-wilson.html?m=1

 8. I saw some tweet this morning stating that this was the 4th time that the Mets were in first in the division on the morning of the deadline by 3.5+ games. 1986, 1988 and 2006 were the previous years (all first place finishes). I haven't fact checked, but it seems right. How can they not find pieces to push through the finish line if that is the case? 1986 NADA! Ed Lynch sent to Chicago a month earlier for prospects and Lee Mazzilli was picked up as a free agent a few days after 1988 NADA! Traded for Edwin Nunez and signed FA Bob McClure a couple of weeks before hand. 2006 A Night In Miami Whatever plans Omar Minaya had were scrapped when word came of Duaner Sanchez' cab ride accident. Xavier Nady was sent to Pittsburgh for pen depth in Roberto Hernandez, as well as starter Xavier Nady I just meant in general...not that those teams didn't also make moves. How could the 2021 team not find pieces? That's what I meant. *all meaningless now that the Baez deal happened anyways. Didn't mean anything by it, I was just regurgitating the historical data of moves those Met teams made on the 7/30 non-waiver deadline.

 10. I was thinking about that recently as I was musing about how awful some of the photography is on some of the 1970s Topps cards. They probably only shot one or two games, tops, and they're not going to take more than a few photos of each guy. So I guess you get what you get once you get it back to the lab and developed. Here are some fun examples https://www.tcdb.com/List.cfm/lid/7242/Where%27s-Waldo??C=3 https://www.tcdb.com/List.cfm/lid/7242/Where's-Waldo??C=3
 11. I don't think any of the others mentioned in this thread wore a Mets uniform (player or coach) for more years than "Little" Al Jackson. He goes back to the very first year and was a player or mentor to countless Mets players for a half century. He IS Mr. Met. He deserves to be honored for his contributions to the team, both on and off the field. Later He's getting the HOF Achievement Award this year. Bob Mandt, Harold Minor and Pete Flynn were past recipients.

 13. Maybe what I saw the other day about McF's closing was old news. Looks like it's open during baseball season again according to web-site - http://www.mcfaddensballparkny.com/McFadden's Citifield. Doesn't look like the site was updated at all in a long time. Scroll all the way to the bottom, and it links to getting 2019 “Met's” tickets.

Frayed Knot wrote: It's just occurred to me that, aside from the Mets (57 games played coming into tonight), every team in MLB has already played more games in 2021 than they did all last season. And it still seems to me that this season is just getting going. I mean, we still have 16 games left to play against the Nats. To be honest, while I do heed the idea of “it gets late early” some years, and maybe it's a byproduct of being a Ranger and Knick fan that follows both of their leagues' postseasons that go deep into June, mid-June always seemed still early-ish in a given season.
 16. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=58645 time=1616694200 user_id=68] I believe Schneck holds the Mets record for most years on the MLB roster without ever getting his own Topps baseball card.

 18. I saw METSPOLICE on Twitter (there BatMags, no vagueness of where this came from) suggest that Hernandez was not really on the Met fan radar, in terms of being a top tier superstar to consider it on the levels of Mike Piazza or Francisco Lindor in terms of bringing in a big name talent. Yes, despite after a share of an MVP, several years after that SI cover heralding his arrival on the scene, amassing a decent collection of Gold Gloves and ASG appearances by that point, and to say nothing about a key figure in the previous October run for the World Champion Cardinals! Is there anything to this? Or is this opinion that he was a regular decent name player more on whatever fan base social circles Shannon was running in back in June of 1983 not being “aware” of Hernandez' star power?

 21. When a guy spills something toward his winning Lottery ticket, he yells "NOOOOO" and runs for a paper towel to blot up the liquid, rather than picking up the Lottery ticket before it gets wet, and then going for the paper towel. Later There is another one with a tablet showing a guy's photo that also screams “nooooooo” as the liquid creeps closer to the tablet, yet likewise no one picks it up before catching the liquid!
