The 1978 Phils won four (Boone, Schmidt, Bowa, Maddox). The BIE Mets of 1999 somehow only won two. All-time wise, obviously YFM along with Mike Matheny, Tom Pagnozzi behind the plate and The Wizard, Renteria and Dal Maxvill at short, Gibson on the mound… Granted the OF awards are all encompassing, but the Cards seem to be missing an everyday RF GG winner. I wonder if any other franchise have 8 or all 9 positions represented by Gold Glove winners through the years.

  3. Frayed Knot wrote: It sounds like that's a very (artificially) loud stadium down there. I mean, all these stadia are artificially loud these days but this one even more than usual it seems, a good chunk of which is likely MLB directed. The organist there still gets his/her chops in (like playing 'I'm a Little Teapot' for Jose Altuve the other day) but it's being squeezed-out/drowned-out by the piped-in stuff. I guess it's still so ingrained for Trevor Hoffman, but when those Hell's Bells chimes started, my first thought was “uh, there's no reliever coming in right now?”
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Jose Altuve: more post-season HRs and a higher post-season OPS than Jeter in about half the number of ABs So I reckon we'll be hearing all about that going forward, right? I didn't catch too much of it, but I did hear them trot out the “different era, different number of rounds” caveat when comparing the numbers with ManRam and Bernie Williams. But that's silly when they pretty much play the same amount of series now as they have since 1995! So I assume it's to placate those still clinging to “Only World Series stats count” point of view since 1968, or “only WS and LCS stats count”! Also Altuve has only played in one Wild Card Game, and of course last season's best out of 3 WC round series last year, which they swept. Yeah 3 games can mean a lot with percentage stats, but using that caveat with Altuve makes it sound like the comparison between someone like Mickey Mantle and someone like Bernie Williams! Of course the sign cheating scandal wasn't even hinted at, unless you count lingering a bit on how overwhelming Altuve's stats at Minute Maid are, compared with his postseason numbers on the road.
  5. =whippoorwill post_id=80168 time=1635110048 user_id=79] My now self thinks they were creepo. Who is #42 doing the 80's version of the twerp? Ewwwww.

Willets Point wrote: As someone who typically pulls for the underdogs, I feel like I should be rooting for the 88-win team that has only one World Series championship in their current location and that was 26 years ago. And yet, I still feel animosity towards the Braves from 20+ years ago plus the arrogance of ditching a relatively new stadium in the city for an elite suburb. So I guess I'm also rooting for the comet. Being a division rival for nearly 30 years, never mind them being a constant presence in postseason play in the course of that span (18 appearances, 16 of them as Division champions) is reason enough not to ever root for them. Dodgers on the other hand? Still not over 1988!
  7. =Fman99 post_id=79700 time=1634090651 user_id=86] Ugh. Stupid Braves. Rooting now against the stupid Dodgers.
  8. Posey and Crawford are the last remaining members of the 2016 team that…well I don't think I can say at this time… Same year as Kris Bryant's World Championship run though. So ghosts of Bochy's last postseason ride helping the Giants on the offensive side.
  9. Willets Point wrote: And so the Dodgers and Giants will meet in the postseason for the first time ever (not counting the 1951 tie-breaker series). Will there be a shot heard 'round the world? Will there be a sign-stealing scandal? Will the TBS announcers refer to the 1951 series at least once an inning throughout the NLDS? There was also the 1962 tie-breaker series.
  10. =G-Fafif post_id=79119 time=1633237453 user_id=55] Giants have 106 wins and haven't clinched their division. Dodgers have 105 wins and aren't in first place. Whoever doesn't finish atop the NL West standings can conceivably be knocked out in a single game by a team that recently won 17 straight. But if the Wild Card from the West does beat the Cardinals, then we get a Giants-Dodgers NLDS. Wow, y'know?
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: LAD could conceivably win 106 games this season and get sent home after Game #163. They went 19-7 during September ... and lost 1.5 games to the Giants. Early in the season, I forget if it was here or not, I was coming up with reasoning for the permanent closures of the external eateries at Citi Field (McFadden's and the Mikkeller taproom). So I commented about needing to be staffed for at least 81 days from April through September and at most 12 postseason dates as being the only times of getting heavy foot traffic. With the obvious caveat that getting all 12 would be under very extraordinary circumstances besides being taken to the limit with the home field advantage in the WS, LCS and DS. You'd pretty much get the home field in the WC game on the strength a 95+ win season, win that game, and hope the winner of your division gets knocked off in the Division Series. Eerie that it could actually happen this October! FWIW, here is the list of Wild Card winners/game participants with 95 (IDK just a win total I thought of that would mean a solid division winning season at a .586 clip) and more wins 1997 Yankees 96 1999 Mets 97 2001 Athletics 102 (well that record fell) 2002 Angels 99 2002 Giants 95 2003 Red Sox 95 2004 Red Sox 98 2005 Red Sox 95 2006 Tigers 95 2008 Red Sox 95 2009 Red Sox 95 2010 Yankees 95 2015 Cubs 97 2015 Pirates 98 (lost WC game) 2018 Yankees 100 2018 Athletics 97 (lost WC game) 2019 Rays 96 (lost WC game) 2018 Cubs 95 (lost WC Game) 2021 either Giants or Dodgers…most likely Dodgers Neither the Cardinals, nor the eventual AL WC teams this year are in line to join the group
  12. Ordinarily I'd say fuck the Cardinals, but geez, we could have helped make things a little interesting for the Brewers this week! Instead the Cards are surging with 16 straight wins and the Brewers clinch with a damn sweep!

At any rate, Rogers, did you drill your servers for details? Good tips could come in handy here. Way too busy to chat with bartenders about who may have closed the joint down before getting caught snoozing down the block a few weeks back Might hit up one of their social media profiles about the CPF theory, hope whomever drives the account is a fellow Met fan and/or knows about the story

This the one Ceets? --> https://www.theblindpigofwestchester.com/https://www.theblindpigofwestchester.com/ yup.hell, I'd like to go there. This intrepid Mets On Tap reporter popped in last night following a flight and watching the Mets at a nearby microbrew's (Wolf And Warrior) tap room. It was very busy (usual for the area on a Friday night), I just had a house lager (from a company in Boston), and a Guinness. Interestingly, it was an Irish tavern going back to the 1930s until the owner cashed out a few years ago, and reopened under new management as a cocktail lounge shortly before the pandemic started. Bar was a nice 40s throwback, no TV's though, but it isn't meant to be a sports bar. Restaurant lounge area was nice and swanky, with a heater that played a projection of a fireplace.

  23. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=75817 time=1630195930 user_id=68] I'm not sure I'm following you. Are you saying that that web site also hosts DIY or custom cards from individuals, in addition to the licensed cards one would expect to find?
  24. What? No Typewriters? Oddly enough, there is a user list on that site of cards showing embraces. Could have sworn a card existed of the Jerrys and Ed Charles on the mound following the final out of the ‘69 series. Must have been a creation of yours or Z's that I was thinking of. Ended up sending the creator of that list a 1994 Spectrum Collectables card featuring Koosman with him jumping into Grote's arm in the background of Koosman's profile. https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/86181/86181-6228706RepFr.jpg>
  25. Jerry Koosman as a Met on cardboard https://www.tcdb.com/List.cfm/lid/10202/New-York-Mets-Hall-of-Fame-Honorees-Jerry-Koosmanhttps://www.tcdb.com/List.cfm/lid/10202/New-York-Mets-Hall-of-Fame-Honorees-Jerry-Koosman Good find! Well, that was curated by myself on that site I like how the 1970, 1973 and 1974 have virtually the same pose, but definitely taken at different times and places. Just noticed the same with the ‘78 and ‘79 card. Rare shot of Koosman on a card wearing the orange and blue shirt and sleeve collars. Way too many Koosman as a Phillie cards exist for my tastes BTW. Thankfully no post career card of him as a Twin, White Sox or Phillie exist, yet anyway…at least according to that site
