If you don't like seeing Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Keifer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips and/or Christian Slater it doesn't matter that they are being HS teens or doing a loose interpretation of historical figures ] ="SteveJRogers"]What LaBama is the "Brat Pack's Take On The Day The Music Died"? I don't get what this question means. Lou Diamond Phillips as Richie Valens. Basically you are dismissing a movie based on who was in it, saying that it was "Contemptuous of their audience" then you can say the same about La Bamba (yes I screwed up the spelling)
  2. I'm considering heading out to Chi-Town to see the Cubbies that first weekend of August. Kind of strange that our only trip to Chicago in the past few years is right in the middle of Chicago. Kind of had hoped to go out there right around mid-May, weather is just starting to get warm, and I kind of like seeing the ivy as it's starting to sprout out. Ah well, it's Freaking Chicago anyway.

  4. Just noticed something, it appears that a good majority of films considerd some form of comedy, or at the very least movies where there is considerable time lapse there is always a scene of two or more characters eating. Anyone know if there is a movie with the paramaters that do not show characters having a meal?

  6. Edgy DC wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]"Contemptuous of their audience?" Where do you get that? Seemed like it was an 80's Brat Pack movie set in the West, didn't see it as "Oh we are going to target the classic Western fan base and spit in their face with this one" or anything It was an 80's Brat Pack movie set in the West. Hence why I'm not getting why you said "Contemptuous of their audience"
  7. So I'm guessing "Keep The Faith" is out as well?
  8. Edgy DC wrote: And we'll just hope the team isn't as awful and ill-conceived and contemptuous of their audience as that film was. Wow, I guess I'm the only one that thought it and it's sequel were nice pop-corn westerns of the late 80's and early 90's. I mean thats the reason I dragged out "Blaze of Glory" for one of the IGTs "Contemptuous of their audience?" Where do you get that? 9. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I can understand MLB wanting to keep ownership of the domain name, but they really ought to put some Expos content up there. Very few people who care about the Expos are looking for Nationals information. MLB should use that domain to house whatever Montreal Expos content they may have left over. Actually the Team History section is Wall-To-Wall Expos, including the Expos retired numbers that appear to have been "unretired" for the Nats! This is the case with all of the teams, including the Seattle Piolts, linked to the Brewers history section! Well just in terms of the "All Time Roster" info but you can find info on the Piolts on the site. Granted yes Expo Info searchers probably wouldn't think first about looking at MLB's Nationals site, but it does have a treasure trove of historical data. Now what the real shame is that there aren't any other comphrehensive independant sites out there soley dedicated to one singluar team's history (B-R, B-A and other comprehensive baseball sites are great, but I like the singular focus, of an UMDB) the way UMDB and MBTN are.
  10. Not too many Mets can claim a statue honoring them. Granted at a ballpark twice removed from the place the action of the statue is supposed to have taken place in!
  11. True, but why not have an 84-85 as well with a little splash with Hojo and getting a big gift in Carter before the holidays even started! BTW, the 85-86 one also was quite pedestrian. Granted we really didn't have a need for a big name the way certain media members and fans seem to think we do now, but did Bob Ojeda and Tim Teufel really wet your whistle in terms of heading into 1986? Oh wow! A lefty to augment the staff, great! Hey Wally really ought to have a decent platoon partner! Yes the returning team was the whistle wetter heading into the 86 season, but still, sometimes the best offseason moves aren't the big deals. Conversley though, I would like a move for a Zito as it would help the team in the long run, but not because I want to "win the offseason" Gee that sounds like a term a Yankee fan would use! Or maybe a Yankee owner = FWIW, Klesko has Giambi written all over him, and not in the productive ex-roider who may still be on roids way
  12. Why is this man smiling? 20 years after being a forever forgotten player in the "David Cone for Ed Hearn" deal he gets to be the pitching coach for a 2 time Cy Young winner and another rising star as well as a top notch closer. Your Minnesota Twins Pitching Coach since 2003, Rick Anderson!
  13. Opinion: There are a few out there (don't worry I'm not one) that feel Berra is a bit of a phony for burying the hatchet and returning to the MFY "Family" Fact: This year marked the first time since 1988 that the Mets played a postseason game in pinstripes
  14. Thread is over here!
  15. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Okay, I'll bite. Juan Acevedo. What I like about this photo is that he's in a Yankee uniform and he's in that classic "I just screwed up" posture. The photo was allegedly taken during an interleague game against the Chicago Cubs. I'm curious though about that patch on the right side of his cap. I thought they were only used during World Series games, but the last time the Yankees and Cubs met in October was quite a while ago. NEXT: Benny Agbayani Thats not the World Series patch, that is the Yankees 100th Anniversary patch that adorned all Yankee jerseys and caps that season of 2003
  16. Reference to Maz arguing (correctly though) in an interference call that went the MFY way in a Yankee-Met game. It's rehashed on this page in this thread
  17. Monday May 21st Wonder when the tradition of doing it the day after the ceromony in July/August stopped. My guess too late in the summer for pennant contending teams to do an exhibition game. Too bad, lot of Baltimore fans would be up for the inductions anyway, that was a cool thing if they had something like this, you'd to see a player representing your franchise (obviously this summer Cal Ripken, Jr.) and then got to see the current squad (or the B-Team and various minor leaguers) play an exhibition game. Ah well...
  18. Nymr83 wrote: where do you see that? or is this something only visible to admins? THE admin can only see the tracking. You should see a notice about it when the daily lookup section of the All Time Roster page changes automatically tommorrow
  19. Also has a nifty young Maz picture on the MLB.com page on the story
  20. Lee Mazzilli joins the SNY booth after being dissmissed from the Bronx
  21. Pretty funny book, has transcripts of the big name routines. More of a flowing thoughts book than a straight bio but a good fast read.
  22. DocTee wrote: Steve: How do you account for the proliferation of fantasy leagues/rotisserie leagues/ and sim leagues? Doesn't that elevate Joe Six-Packs knowledge of out-of-towners and show that the "average"fan is just as interested in MLB today as was the strat-o-matic guru of the halcyon 1960s and 70s? No, it really doesn't. The proliferation is more a byproduct of the information age. Yes it means that fantasy league guy is no longer thought of in the same vein as Dungeons and Dragons guy and the sterotype of living in their parent's basement with no girl friend and barely self sustaining themselves is a thing of the past, but the fact that there are more players out there is a byproduct of more ways to sign up for leagues and whatnot. The stigma of it is gone, but does that say much? There could be just as many people who sign up for a league and either never make a move after the first month or so or only make transactions based on knowledge of the player. "Yeah I'll give you Fransico Liriano for Mark Mulder straight up"
  23. I know Yance, just needed something to latch on to in order to somehow vaildate or justify my belief that baseball just isn't the same. I really think there are more of you out there than people here care to admit.
  24. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Ted, if it helps any I had never heard of Harden either. Twenty years ago I knew who every player was. Since 1994, I only follow the Mets and I'm not embarrassed to admit to my lack of knowledge of other teams. I'll know all about Harden if he becomes a Met. And if he doesn't, he simply doesn't matter to me. I REST my case! And no, baseball is not dying because the proprietor of UMDB has no idea who one of the best young arms in the AL is. Maybe it's a different argument alltogether I don't know, that sports has lost any sense of "mistique" about them that the true passion of following the entire league is gone for many. But can I at least say the interest in baseball is starkly different than it has been in the past? Maybe it's not on a respirator or anything, but it's just not the same "sport." And no, that's not "waxing nostalgic" for something that really wasn't there to begin with, but maybe just too much "real life" has entered the main stream discussion of baseball. Maybe that's what should have been my argument =
  25. My old man went there, sad to say he is not as nutty about his alamater the way some are around here. Hey we have...ummmm... We have a guy who played on the same court with Larry Bird AND Kevin McHale! Serious, thats the way he was discussed by the basketball announcers one day looking at his picture in the media guide. Hail Fairfeld!
