  1. Soto and Taylor (lightly) collided, and the ball hit Soto's glove before Taylor caught it barehanded in the outfield. Conforto tagged up after first touch by Soto but before the catch was secured. Mets threw to second to double-up Conforto (who ran to third) and Conforto was called safe. Mets challenge and unps say it's proper to tag up on first touch.
  2. Targeting August for a return.
  3. I don't want to sound alarming but the Mets haven't had a hit for 4 innings
  4. HP Umpire Adam Hamari (you may remember him from that most ridiculous ejection of Syndergaard in 2016) is having a terrible night behind the plate.

  6. 80 games and ineligible for the postseason, should they make it.
  7. Wilmer gets the walk-off RBI (where have we heard that before?) tonight against Sacramento. 0-0 game in the bottom of the 10th, Wilmer took a bases-loaded walk for the win.
  8. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I don't really trust Megill in my heart, but he's better than I think he is. This is his 76th start for the Mets. He's not better than we think.
  9. =kcmets post_id=192794 time=1747424373 user_id=53]I like to watch at least one of these games on YES so I can see and hear Michael Kay. He's just simply horse-head and shoulders above all the major NYC sports guys.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: For what it is worth, Alonso is not particularly analogous to Soto. Soto spent one year with the Yankees, and really, he probably gave them the best year of his career. The closest comparison is Mike Hampton: trade for one year of a star, performs well, performs well in playoffs for a team that makes the World Series, leaves afterwards. Soto of course did not feed some bullshit line about why he chose his new team…
  11. Lefty Specialist wrote: When he pitches at Citi, he'll get a tribute video and cheered. If he's ever healthy enough to pitch at Citi, that is. Funnily enough, I was flipping through the out of town games tonight on MLB.tv and there he is in the Houston-Texas tilt, throwing seven shutout innings in a 1-0 game, looking like the DeGrom we are knew and loved. Texas comes to New York in mid-September, so a decent chance he pitches again in Citi Field (if he stays healthy).
  12. There was a game at Shea late in the 2006 season in which Nick Johnson of the Nationals broke his femur in an outfield collision. It was so disturbing that the Mets shut off the music/scoreboard animations for the last couple of innings as everyone just wanted to get the game over with.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Instead, probably acting on the idea that the majority of today's writers weren't active at the time Pete was, they're treating this as if the BBWAA missed their chance to have a say and so he skips directly to step two. There was *already* a rule in place that BBWAA elections can only consider players who played at some point between 5 and 15 years from the date of the vote.
  14. Old friend Javy Baez had two three run homers yesterday for Detroit, the second of which came to walk it off in the 11th after Houston had scored twice in the top of the inning. Baez is hitting .319/.357/.513 as the everyday center fielder for the Tigers. Detroit remains tied with the Mets for the best record in MLB.
  15. This is just buck-passing by Manfred, but it's an easy fix. The HOF just needs to change its rule: Instead of: “Anyone on the permanently ineligible list is not eligible for election” Change to: “Anyone who has been on the permanently ineligible list is not eligible for election”
  16. He was used yesterday though. I wouldn't use Diaz here
  17. Lefty Specialist wrote: Javy Baez still costing the Mets. Baez was excellent when he was with the Mets. And they got good value out of Trevor Williams too. For all of the “trade prospects to win now” deals over the years…Crow-Armstrong is looking like the best to have been dealt away in some time, however…
  18. =roger_that post_id=192120 time=1746827782 user_id=128]Great to see they've moved Baty up to sixth in the lineup.
  19. If a rainout tonight, this would likely become a split doubleheader Saturday, first game at 1.
  20. Not unlike the Mets, the Cubs have had a very odd schedule to start the year. They've only played 6 games against the NL Central (4-2) but have played 23 games against the good teams in the NL West (e.g., not Colorado) going 12-11 in those games.
  21. I sure hope they don't regret losing the season series to ARZ.
  22. They had their chance in the third. Soto and Alonso both walked to load the bases and then Marte looked at three straight pitches in the middle of the zone, one of the worst PAs I can recall this year.
  23. AJ has an $11 million player option for 2026.
  24. I wasn’t advocating for Singleton, just pointing out that the criteria of “hits well in small sample size at AAA” is not particularly meaningful. Of course I agree it will be someone already on the 40-man. They’ve maxed that out with the pitching injuries and have already moved as many people as they can (Montas, Manaea, etc) to the 60-day IL to save space. The only position players on the 40-man not in the majors are Baty, Senger, and Jared Young. I guess they could call up Young if Baty was hurt.
  25. By that measure, they should be calling up Jon Singleton who has a .923 OPS this year in Syracuse.
