  1. He did get squeezed: ball 3 to Devers was actually strike 2.
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: Acuna running for Mauricio?!? Not that he's not (probably) faster, but I'd think you'd save that card for someone else. Who, though? It's not as if anyone at the top of the order is getting pulled for a runner, and if the inning continues long enough to get to Baty or Alvarez, the Mets would have had scored a bunch already. Acuna was likely to come in for defense anyway in the bottom of the 9th.
  3. =Centerfield post_id=199302 time=1753667829 user_id=65] And now the lefty has to face Bailey. Such a dumb move.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: That is a good stat. How many Mets have hit one in Pittsburgh? Only 6 homers have been hit into the Allegheny on the fly, none by a Met. (Daryl Ward, Garrett Jones, Pedro Alvarez, O'Neil Cruz, Josh Bell x2).
  5. Interesting theory! Two potential counterpoints: there was already (limited) replay review in place by this point, on potential home runs (fair/foul and homer/not). The Armando Galarraga shoulda-been-a-perfect game had occurred the year earlier. And like this one was a potentially game-ending bad call. In fairness, it was not a game-deciding call as this one was.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: Joey Lucchesi, meanwhile, doing Joey Lucchesi things. It was always strange the Mets never wanted to try him as a reliever. Seems like he's thriving in that role this year.
  7. Ok. Let’s pivot and offer those prospects to Minnesota for Jhoan Duran instead.
  8. =Centerfield post_id=199150 time=1753502341 user_id=65] Wow. Great job. I would have pulled him 3 batters ago. Nice job by Mendoza.
  9. Soto (does he have a “G. Soto” on his uniform?) is a good start for bullpen upgrades.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Conforto had over 100 homers as a Met, so he has to be the 5 guy. Yes. I believe this is everyone who had 20 homers between those 2 teams combined: 1. 18. Darryl is 2 1. Mays 660 (Giants 646, Mets 14) 2. Strawberry 256 (Mets 252, Giants 4) 3. 4. 5.
  19. This was a fun note I saw on a preview of the series: Who are the 5 players with the most homers combined between their Mets/Giants careers? (Must have actually played for both teams to qualify - no Mel Ott here) 1. Mays, 660 2. 3. 4. 5.
  20. According to The Athletic’s “Big Board” of potentially available players: -Boston outfielders Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu P -Tampa 2B Brandon Lowe -Cleveland OF Steven Kwan -Baltimore 1B/DH Ryan O’Hearn Link here: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6507691/2025/07/23/mlb-trade-deadline-big-board-top-50/ My preference remains Suarez. I’d also call the Twins about Byron Buxton (not on The Athletic’s list). But there are other possibilities too.
  21. On the offensive side, there are no concerns about playing time at all, since the DH slot is open for the taking. Winker hasn’t been able to stay on the field and Marte, while a nice guy who hits a lot of singles, has no power. They need to get the best possible hitter they can and they can figure it out afterwards. If that’s Suarez (my preference), play him every day at either DH or 3B, and fill in around him with the versatility the team has. The Mets are 8th in the NL (14th in MLB) in offense, behind all the teams they’re likely to need to beat to win the WS (LA, CHC, MIL, PHI, DET, TOR, NYY). They need more offense anywhere they can get it.
  22. What should the Mets be offering to Cleveland for Emmanuel Clase? This is the guy the Mets should target: not only because he’s the best possible upgrade to the ‘pen, but also because he’s under contract for 2026, plus $10M club options for each of 2027 and 2028. Not only does he offer the best opportunity among potential reliever upgrades to add to the Mets win total this year, when Edwin declines his 26/27 options at the end of the year, the Mets have a potential replacement already available if they don’t want to meet Edwin’s price.
  23. July 25 feels like pretty late in the season to be seeing an NL opponent for the first time. This road trip will also be the first time we see the Padres. After this road trip, the Mets have only 6 games remaining out of the Eastern time zone - one series each in Chicago and Milwaukee.
  24. On November 15, Citi Field is hosting an “all star” exhibition of Dominican vs Puerto Rican players. Seems like a fun idea. But then I keep reading: “Rosters for the teams will be announced in the coming months, but former All-Star Robinson Cano is scheduled to play his last professional game on American soil. To honor Cano, every player on the Dominican team will wear his iconic No. 24 jersey.” http://www.mlb.com/mers/tickets/specials/dr-pr
