  1. If all it takes is Baty you do that deal in a second. (both Baty and Vientos have 4 years of team control after 2025).
  2. The Mets have a .635 OPS at third base this year, ranking 26th of 30 teams.
  3. Is this guy (part of) the solution to the Mets’ offensive woes? He’s in the final year of his contract with the Diamondbacks, at $15M for the year. He’s a good candidate for a qualifying offer (which he’d likely reject) if he remained with Arizona, so it’s not as if they’d get totally nothing by keeping him. He turned 34 a couple days ago and has been very durable (150 games in 2022, 162 in 2023, 158 last year, 98 of 100 this year). Oh, and he mashes homers, currently leading MLB with 35. (He averaged 28.5 from 2021-2024).
  4. Indeed. I saw that the “true” cost to the Phillies is closer to $12M because of the luxury tax thresholds - so probably would be similar for the Mets. But even at $12M this seems like it would have been a good option, assuming the Mets were interested (I would surely think so) and that Robertson was (who knows?)

  6. I’m sure there’s all sorts of considerations we’re not privy to, but that layout looks incredibly stupid, with home plate nowhere near any of the curves of the track, and thus basically everyone is a mile from the action.
  7. Signed with Philly for $5.5M. (It’s a one-year $16M deal, prorated for the partial season remaining).
  8. Alvarez being recalled says Mike Puma of the Post.
  9. =Centerfield post_id=198468 time=1752886719 user_id=65]Why give Carrillo a second inning?
  10. The swing off is worse. It isn't a baseball game at that point with the offense and defense involved. The ghost runner of course is still an abomination.
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: Once the internet age brought about the ability for a 14 y/o to voting a few thousand times a day, they've gone to a system where fan voting makes up part of what picks the starters. No, that's incorrect. The starters (except the starting pitcher) are entirely selected by fan voting. The voting process has moved to two rounds, but both remain fan votes. The selection method for reserves and pitchers is what has been tweaked, to remove the input of the managers. The current selection process is, in this order: Fans: the starting 9 batters. Players: Backups for each of the 9 positions, plus 5 starting pitchers and 3 relievers. If for a given position, #1 on the player ballot is who the fans chose, then #2 on the player ballot is selected. Commissioner: 4 pitchers and 2 position players (to ensure each team is represented).
  12. I guess I watched, and that's on me, but it bears repeating how awful Manfred (and to be fair, also Selig) have been for baseball.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Do the reps have to be guys who were still in the game at the end? No, because Alonso was selected
  14. And Roberts not using Ohtani. They know it's dumb and don't want to hurt their own guys.
  15. If Alonso gets hurt I might personally make a citizens arrest of Manfred.

  17. Does Pete get the MVP award?
  18. Yeah, I think we all realize that they’d need to make sure his arm’s still attached, see him throw, check the radar readings, and everything else. I think you know that too and don’t actually think there was a suggestion that wouldn’t happen.
  19. -Costs nothing but cash. No prospects needed to trade, no draft picks lost by signing him. -Obvious extensive experience as a high-leverage reliever. -Wants to get paid (a $15M annual salary was the reported ask), but maybe that’s pro-ratable now. The Athletic reporting that Mets are among teams that have “at least recently looked into Robertson.” This seems like a no-brainer for a billionaire owner of a team that could use an extra arm.
  20. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: 2015 trade with a mystery west coast club By process of elimination it's got to be San Diego but not a clue who they traded for. I remember Cameron/Nady and Heath Bell/Royce Ring for Ben Johnson/Jon Adkins (I was sure both of those guys would be better than they were)…but no recollection at all of a 2015 trade.
  21. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: 2004 Cardinal trade rid the Mets of a guy I couldn't wait to get rid of even though we got nothing significant in return You mean you didn't like Roger Cedeno and his sub-par defense, middling OBP and total absence of power?
  22. A lot of clues here helped with process of elimination but I'm going with St Louis as the team we haven't dealt with since 2004.
  23. They need more than just a centerfielder, though. The positional splits were interesting: Catcher: Mets rank 26th in OPS from this position Second Base: 22nd Third Base: 24th Center Field: 24th Designated Hitter: 12th. Obviously they can't upgrade all of these at once, and it's not as if there's going to be lots of catching upgrades available. But they need to add at least 2 hitters even if the plan is “hope that one of Vientos/Baty/Mauricio/Acuna somehow starts hitting.”
  24. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Looks like we picked Michigan 2B Mitch Voit The NY Post has already helpfully pointed out that Voit is the player who, in celebration of hitting a three-run triple against USC, pretended to “snort” the third base line as if it were cocaine.
  25. As a team, the Mets rank 8th in the NL in runs scored (14th overall). I'm looking forward to see what moves Stearns makes to fix this, because the current roster isn't good enough for when the playoffs arrive.
