  1. This is also something that remains surprising to me, that the early evening news actually gets meaningful viewership. I have a tough time imagining the demographic for that other than…senior citizens? This is where it becomes clear, I suppose, that I am not a network television executive.
  2. Yes, as already stated above, it’s well understood which party is driving the decision. What I’ve never heard is a cogent explanation as to why doing it that way makes the network(s) more money. Why is a given that they will lose viewers from the “overlap” versus gaining viewers from Philadelphia and Atlanta who aren’t going to watch at 2 PM but would watch at 7. Do those Philly and Atlanta fans who work come home and really watch the Red Sox or Cubs instead? I guess this must be the case, that there are enough (1) fans who will watch an additional game or (2) unaffiliated viewers who will watch multiple games if given the chance.
  3. This idea has never made too much sense to me. -If it’s “your team” playing, you’re going to watch that game, no matter what else is on. -If you don’t care about the teams and just want to watch baseball, you’ll watch what’s convenient or interesting. If the game is a blowout/boring you, having an alternative would seemingly keep you watching versus going to a different type of programming altogether, or turning off the TV.
  4. 9 consecutive home playoff losses for Houston.
  5. Here’s hoping sooner. Gate receipts from guaranteed playoff games largely go to the players, so maybe they’ll care about this during the upcoming CBA negotiations. All seriousness, we know the real money is in TV and thus that dictates the timeslots. What continues to baffle me is that it’s more profitable for TV to show games at 2 and 5 PM versus, say, staggering the starts at 6, 7, 8, and 9 PM. I guess it must be, since they keep doing it that way…but it sure seems odd.
  6. Yes. Ventura is #11 with 37 career postseason games.
  7. That’s our #1 answer. Olerud also had several appearances with Seattle and then also Boston and that other NY team at the end of his career. 1. John Olerud 66 2. Carlos Beltran 65 3. Curtis Granderson 64 4. Rickey Henderson 60 5. Travis D’Arnaud 57 6. 7. 8t. Francisco Lindor 41 8t. JD Martinez 41 10. Darryl Strawberry 40 11. 12. Tom Glavine 35 13. 14. Willie Mays 33. He’s the highest number to have not played at least one postseason game in 1995 or later. Too few games Shawn Green Bartolo Colon Julio Franco David Cone Octavio Dotel Mike Piazza Todd Zeile Carlos Delgado Didn’t play in postseason for Mets Adrian Gonzalez Andres Gimenez Jeff Kent Justin Turner Trot Nixon
  8. Carlos’ only postseason games were the 10 he played with the Mets in 2006. .352/.442/.757 in those 10 games too. Could’ve been NLCS MVP
  9. Piazza - 32 Dotel - 26 Cone - 21 No pitchers on the list other than Glavine. Hints: all of these guys had played in the postseason with at least one other franchise before reaching it with the Mets.
  10. Trot’s only year with the Mets was 2008.
  11. The paid attendance for this game was 30,127 — meaning there were more than 10,000 empty seats in Atlanta/whatever suburb that park is located in yesterday. It’s almost as if selling tickets with no gametime and not announcing it until 48 hours in advance is not fan-friendly.
  12. 31 postseason games for Julio, a little short of this list.
  13. Justin did not appear in the postseason for the Mets.
  14. Only 17 postseason appearances for Bartolo.
  15. As a New Yorker, there’s much that I find offensive about the Yankees but the fact that they’re profitable for TV broadcasts is not one of them. New York is where the most people (and most baseball fans) live and thus its teams are more likely to get the most important viewing windows. This benefits the Mets too (and especially as an attendee) in years in which they make the postseason.
  16. Duran was brought in in the seventh inning after the Phillies took the lead. Pitched a 1-2-3 seventh but things unraveled in the eighth.
  17. 1. 2. Carlos Beltran 65 3. Curtis Granderson 64 4. Rickey Henderson 60 5. Travis D’Arnaud 57 6. 7. 8t. Francisco Lindor 41 8t. JD Martinez 41 10. Darryl Strawberry 40 11. 12. Tom Glavine 35 13. 14. Willie Mays 33. He’s the highest number to have not played at least one postseason game in 1995 or later. Too few games Shawn Green Didn’t play in postseason for Mets Adrian Gonzalez Andres Gimenez Jeff Kent
  18. Shawn Green only played in 13 career postseason games, 9 with the Mets. He missed Toronto’s runs and the Dodgers weren’t that good in the 00s. Kent was with the Mets from 92-96 so no postseason there. He played in 49 career postseason games with other teams.
  19. 1. 2. Carlos Beltran 65 3. Curtis Granderson 64 4. Rickey Henderson 60 5. 6. 7. 8t. Francisco Lindor 41 8t. JD Martinez 41 10. 11. 12. Tom Glavine 35 13. 14. Willie Mays 33. He’s the highest number to have not played at least one postseason game in 1995 or later. Didn’t play in postseason for Mets Adrian Gonzalez Andres Gimenez (Yes, there was a counting error when I put up the list initially)
  20. 1. 2. Carlos Beltran 65 3. Rickey Henderson 60 4. 5. 6. 7t. Francisco Lindor 41 7t. JD Martinez 41 9. 10. Tom Glavine 35 11. 12. Willie Mays 33. He’s the highest number to have not played at least one postseason game in 1995 or later. * * * Adrian Gonzalez did not play in the postseason for the Mets.
  21. Lavender is my pick, not because he did as much but because he was the true dark-horsiest of the bunch.
  22. Give me…Todd Zeile for both lists!
  23. 1. 2. Carlos Beltran 65 3. Rickey Henderson 60 4. 5. 6. 7t. Francisco Lindor 41 7t. JD Martinez 41 9. 10. 11. 12. Willie Mays 33. He’s the highest number to have not played at least one postseason game in 1995 or later. * * * Adrian Gonzalez did not play in the postseason for the Mets.
  24. 1. 2. Carlos Beltran 65 3. Rickey Henderson 60 4. 5. 6. 7t. Francisco Lindor 41 7t. 9. 10. 11. 12. Willie Mays 33. He’s the highest number to have not played at least one postseason game in 1995 or later.
