  1. Name the 3 players that have hit 100 homeruns with 3 different major league franchises. Name the 2 players that have hit at least 10 home runs each season for the past 15 years (1992-2007).
  2. Justin Timberlake, I believe.
  3. Larkin seems like a borderline candidate. He played 19 seasons but lost a lot of time due to injury (in only 12 of those seasons did he get 450 PAs). In 6 of the 12 full seasons he hit over .300. The career hits total (2340) avg (.295) and OBP (.371) are impressive. 3 Gold Gloves, 1 WS. 1 MVP in '95 but it was a strange vote (Larkin only got 11 first place votes) and Maddux's 19-2, 1.63 ERA probably should have gotten the MVP that year. Never led the league in anything. Compare to Edgar Martinez, who you listed as "borderline:" 2247 career hits, .312 AVG, .418 career OBP. 309 HRs. 2 batting crowns, 1 2nd place. Led league in runs once, RBI once, doubles twice. Over .300 in 10 of the 12 full seasons he had. Of course he also never played the field. I'd probably vote for Martinez and not for Larkin.
  4. Alou 4 Delgado 2 Sosa 2 Reyes 1 Heilman 1
  5. Sunday's game was the 23rd. Granted, the Mets don't make much money of the last few thousand seats, but that's also because they're obstructed view and realistically only get sold for opening day, playoffs, and the games vs. the Yankees (which is why we have only 5 sellouts this year). I don't think there's much doubt that a lot of people are going to get priced out of going once the new stadium opens.
  6. I think it's still a hangover effect from last year when making the playoffs wasn't in doubt starting around Memorial Day. That being said, they are still playing worse than their record suggests, I think.
  7. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Lotta cash and prizes for 58 wins in 4.5 years. No kidding...and on the highlight video, they show one measly strikeout from the playoffs last year -- the time when having Glavine really paid big dividends. Strange.
  8. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I don't mean to be Buzzy McBuzzkill, but our team absolutely sucks. We take 7 or 8 innings a night off, our manager makes goofy decisions, and mostly, our guys just don't execute. Reyes may or may not have been out but if we lose it'd be the 2nd in a row where an inability to score a guy from 3rd with less than 2 outs would cost us a game. This team is just bad. No kidding. No hitting, spotty relief and if we don't hit the big homer we don't score at all. Makes me wonder what to do with all the money I have saved for playoff tickets.
  9. I just loaded up the "retro" MLB Gameday: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2006/gd.html?2007_08_11_flomlb_nynmlb_1&brand=mlb ...and there it was! Usually use that or USA Today for the lineup. Green being held out against the lefty is fine, but strange to see Beltran out too. Was there maybe something about the abdominal strain he had that makes it ok to hit from one side but not the other?

  13. An intern from my office reported seeing Beltran, Mrs. Beltran and Beltran's agent at, of all places, a Radio Shack in midtown this week. Apparently he knew it was his agent because he overheard him talking on the phone, saying "I'm here with my client, Mr. Beltran." Goes in this thread because he reported that Mrs. Beltran was "very pregnant."
  14. PS the El Duque game in the top 10 list is correctly the 7/17 game, but it was at SD. The 6/17 game at NYY was terrible. Not bottom-10 terrible, but it sucked. Especially if one was there.
  15. I suspect the two missing from the top 10 worst could be the singular starts made by Chan Ho Park and Dave Williams.
  16. Perez' great start vs. the Yanks at home. Friday, 5/17 I think. That's gotta be a top-10 game. Also he had a Saturday afternoon start against the Braves in April that was up there. What about Glavine, El Duque, Maine and Perez' first four starts of the year? Weren't all four of those games pitched really well?
  17. I will defer to those who saw replays -- but in person it certainly looked like it was just hit out of Carlos' reach. Tough break for the Mets but with Wagner having been so good (this was only blown save #2 on the season, right?) I'm not so worried about him. The rest of the team of course sat around waiting for the big homer (and it did come) and didn't get runs in when needed to in the other innings. Was a good crowd on a crappy night (sweatshirts -- in mid August?). Really frustrating.
  18. Tough break for Shawn Green on Wednesday's game. Contributed as much as he was given the opportunity to -- a perfect, 4-4 day -- but getting about a point less than El Duque's solid yet unspectacular 7 IP, 3 ER outing. (Green averaging 1.24; Hernandez averaging 2.22 pts). If you asked me who the player of the game was -- I'd say Green. Nods to Alou and Castillo for clutch contributions but Green had the best performance.
  19. No kidding. The warning said "closing Friday." Didn't realize that would mean closing Friday at 9:00 AM. It's tough to have a legitimate complaint when somebody is doing all the work (and that work is indeed appreciated, but as I've said before, closing the voting fewer than 72 hours after the game (in this case, it was about 59) ends seems pretty fast.
  20. Green 2.5 Alou 2 Castillo 2 OHernandez 1 Reyes 1 Heilman 1 Wagner 1
  21. I actually wouldn't mind a rainout. Could give them a chance to rest up the bullpen (used somewhat heavily this week) and reflect on the general suckiness of a large part of the series vs. ATL.
  22. Wright 2.25 Reyes 1 Delgado 1 Gotay 1 Mota .5 Feliciano .5 Schoeneweis .5
  23. Newhan 1.25 Mota 1 Feliciano 1 Delgado .5 Milledge .25
  24. ="Frayed Knot"]btw, Chipper has good numbers against the Mets mainly because he has good numbers against everyone! They're slightly better against NY compared to a random expectation but only slightly: He has 9.17% of his ABs against the Mets with 10.04% of his hits, 9.87% of his HRs, and 9.14% of his RBIs. Whoop-de-damn-doo Curious, what do you make of Pat Burrell (11.5% of his ABs against the Mets, but 18% of his HRs)?
  25. Not yet mentioned: I'd give an honorable mention to Piazza's HR off Wagner in '98.
