  1. I too find it hard to believe that you could go over the side by just "losing your footing." I'm guessing some combination of alcohol/horseplay had to be involved. Of course, if not, it remains a horrible tragedy.
  2. I didn't get to the game in time but I'm told someone from the Robinson family/foundation accompanied Ed Charles for the removal of #76.
  3. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]I'm OK booing the enemy, it sure beats the ****rags who booed Heilman after a poorly struck pop fly landed for a double. Fair point, forgot to mention it. He's only been our best and most consistent reliever for three years. Stop the booing NOW. ]I didn't know the postgame express 7 was actually Super Xpress and had to head back to QNS at Grand Central. Sorry I didn't see ya there. My new method is getting off at Queensboro Plaza and getting the 61 there.
  4. Great game. Felt like 2006 again. (Welcome back Duaner!) Cold and colder but fortunately not windy so it was tolerable. *Great* to see Jose come back so strong. Pelfrey's 21 outs: 12 groundballs, 4 Ks, 2 flyballs, 1 lineout, 1 CS, 1 Bunt. Very encouraging. The (small) crowd had a nice hand for Duaner when he was announced into the game. Same crowd booed the crap out of Milledge, for reasons I cannot fathom.
  5. Pelfrey 4 Wright 4 Reyes 2
  6. From Adam Rubin's Blog: Reyes batting leadoff Church batting second Castillo batting eighth Duaner activated off the DL (Muniz to AAA) LoDuca not starting tonight for the Nationals (was hit in the hand with a pitch on Sunday).
  7. That's nothing new. Certain lots have existed under the Northern Boulevard ramps for years. The "free" parking is under the Whitestone Expressway/Northern Boulevard between 114th and 126th streets, on the ramps closest to Flushing Bay.
  8. Tickets are available at fire-sale prices for tonight's game from what I can tell. I even saw one seller advertising Sec X1 Row B (which I believe are the seats directly behind home plate, in the 4th row) for under face value. In not unrelated news, the low is supposed to be 40 degrees tonight. Bundle up.
  9. Lookin' good*, thanks for the update**. *Except for David Wright and his failure to ditch the black. C'mon David. You're letting the team down here. *Also except for Brady Clark and Ramon Castro, who -- judging from those photos -- look like the image I have of guys who are doing 5-10 in the federal pen than. **Hopefully a new update needed soon with Duaner replacing Muniz.
  10. I'm in. Still debating whether or not it's rude to bring a walkman and listen to the game with a headphone in one ear during the book event or not.
  11. sharpie wrote: There are Met-friendly bars in my neighborhood. Last thing I would want, however, is to go to an "official Mets bar." Or an "official" anything bar. Which neighborhood are you in Sharpie? (The Slope?) Here in Greenpoint, we just got a new sports bar (and the first real sports bar in the 'hood, actually) that I have yet to watch a game at yet. The food -- we did takeout -- was pretty good though. Dickshot, you been there?

  13. ="AG/DC"]I don't agree with the signing either. But he did get two basehits to the outfield today Well, one of those only went about 25 feet into the outfield...
  14. Schneider 2.5 Church 1.5 Easley 1.5 Heilman 1.5 Pagan 1 Beltran 1 Delgado .34 Schoeneweis .33 Feliciano .33
  15. I don't think so. If you can't pitch a "quality start," you can't get more than 2 points.
  16. Howie Rose said today that Sanchez could be called up as soon as Tuesday.
  17. Go for it.
  18. Things that drove me absolutely fucking nuts today: 1. The moron Yankee fans in my section cheering for the Brewers. Go play on the train tracks. 2. The ass clown who, after every strikeout by Mets pitching, let out this stupid wordless yell for about 2 minutes. No, really. The kicker: people were cheering and applauding him. 3. Bottom of the 6th, 2 on, 2 out. Pagan and Castillo each just walked on 5 pitches, and David Wright comes up...and swings at the first pitch. Attention David: maybe Torres was having some control issues there? Taking a pitch or two might be prudent. 4. Bottom of the 7th - Delgado hits into what is seemingly another double play, but somehow he makes it to first in time (I thought he was out). Later in the inning, when Schneider grounds into the inning ending DP, he's safe at first. Bad call, and all Wilie does is trot out after everybody's already back in the dugout and has a little chat with Ed Montague, as if they're discussing where to get a good slice after the game. I know it's not Willie's style, but just a little, tiny bit of frustration/anger could be shown by our manager. You say in the post game that you want the team's play to be more "crisp"? How about a little more "crispness" from you. That one deserved a much bigger argument. C'mon Willie, show a little fight. 5. Bottom of the 8th, first and third and Castillo grounds out to first. Attention Brady Clark: 1. You are NOT the tying run (we are down by 2) 2. It is NOT a force play. So why are you breaking on contact? Also, your slide into home was terrible. 6. Oliver Perez giving back a four run lead as soon as his offense gives it to him. Terrible, just terrible. On the traditional 1-10 scale of frustration this one was a 15. Plus it was cold and windy and cloudy and generally miserable at Shea.
  19. Santana 1 Wright 1 Pagan 1 Muniz 1 Delgado .5
  20. I'm proud to report that when they played Sweet Caroline today there was a good amount of booing as well. Looks like it's gonna be Bon Jovi. I guess I can live with that over Neil Diamond.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: In other news, Castillo still awful. Pretty much. The guys behind us basically spent the entire game talking about how we've got 3 and 7/8 more years of his crap. I guess I can accept getting beat by another team's ace...Sheets was pretty good. The sloppy defense by Wright though was pretty bad. Not mentioned in this thread: Santana and Easley messing up Sheets' bunt which allowed the Brewers first run to score. Santana fielded it down the third base line, at which time Corey Hart (coming towards home from third) couldn't have been more than 20 feet away from him. Santana should've tagged Hart, or run him back to third and thrown to Easley (who was not covering third).
  22. G-Fafif wrote: In the black home uniform... Robin Ventura Grand Slam Singled. Bobby Jones one-hit the Giants. The Mets won their first pennant in fourteen years. The Mets clinched their first division title in eighteen years. Nelson Figueroa started his first game for the team he grew up loving. Eleven seasons in, the black home uniform has earned its bona fides. Come to think of it, the black home uniform has now had a longer chronological run than the racing stripes of 1983-1992. Sorry, but just because the Mets were negligent in not getting rid of the black faster (and therefore allowing more great moments to happen while they were wearing those insufferable, ugly uniforms) doesn't somehow legitimize them.
  23. Box Score Figueroa 3 Pagan 1 Wright 1 Easley 1 Casanova 1 Smith 1 Heilman 1 Wagner 1
  24. I can take a couple of other series to fill in. Howzabout that July 4 Phils series, and the second Colorado series.
  25. Crowd had a nice ovation for Figueroa after he let up the first hit. I love Angel Pagan too, but had he hit the damn cutoff man, that first Brewer run wouldn't have scored. Marlon didn't look particularly comfortable at second base. Could be because he only played a total of 2 innings there all of last year. Crowd booed Heilman (again) when he came in. Glad to see him shut the morons up (welcome back, Aaron). Foggy night but the worst we got was a tiny bit of mist for a few seconds, if that.
