  1. Last-minute cancellation gives me an extra for tonight. Yours, gratis, if you feel like heading out to Shea tonight. Send a PM if interested.
  2. Milledge is technically right -- there's nothing "unsportsmanlike" about cheering for your teammate to do well. "Let's go Zim, let's go!" is pretty tame. Is it lame? Surprising? Unexpected at the professional level? Well, yeah.
  3. Bottom of the second, when Wright hit that ball to the third baseman that deflected to the shortstop -- was Wright dogging it on his run down to first base? I could've been seeing things but it didn't seem like David was going very hard.

Santana on Friday, Perez on Saturday, Maine on Sunday. I'd say that after tonight he won't be on the roster much longer.
  5. Edit (can't read directions) High: Mookie Wilson Low: Kingman
  6. Alou, probably all 3 games. 1 start in the OF each for Endy, Pagan and Marlon.
  7. sharpie wrote: Phil Rizzuto has all of the aforementioned beat. .273 average, .351 slugging. Ah, see, I didn't think of Phil Rizzuto as a hall-of-famer.
  8. Eddie Collins, maybe (difference of less than 100 points).
  9. I also think that unless he has a really good start tonight, Bostick could well replace Figueroa.
  10. Still no sign of Matt Wise. Per Marty Noble, he may be activated Wednesday with Smith sent down.
  11. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Cubs or Braves on his Hall plaque? Braves, and I don't think it's close. More seasons there than anywhere else, 194 wins, all but two of his postseason appearances, the WS title, etc.
  12. They were both there as part of Autism Awareness Day this Saturday but also apparently Mets fans: Tommy Hilfiger threw out the first pitch, and The Smithereens performed two songs pre-game.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Plus, don't they have a DH in Atlanta next week too? Yes, they do. So even if Adam Bostick doesn't get a chance this week he may be looking at a Mets debut next week or the week after.

  15. They could do a doubleheader on Thursday if they wanted. Sure, it's technically "getaway day" for both teams but on Friday the Mets are playing at the Yankees and the Nationals are playing at the Orioles, so travel isn't going to be a concern.
  16. Steve gets a lot of shit on this board (some deserved, some undeserved) but I too second and appreciate his contribution here in this thread. And wish that he would continue. Steve, I think the second game saw the Premio Sausage guys who were supposed to do the Friday game that got rained out.

  23. Game 1 was the "Bike to Shea" day organized by NYC DOT. 12 mile ride from Brooklyn. Apparently Mr. Met came by the bike parking lot set up but I missed him. Smithereens played two songs during the pre-game as part of Autisim Awareness Day (sponsored by VH1). They were attired in an old Seaver Jersey, a dark blue 80s pullover jersey and a green Mets jersey. Apparently are big fans. 2 songs -- one of their own and one Beatles cover. I know a fifth umpire is used on doubleheaders but I didn't know that the ump working the plate for game #2 gets game #1 off. Guess I do know. The booing of Heilman is fucking stupid (and yes, I also noticed the Feliciano got off without a peep from the crowd). All 3 relievers though had huge leads to work with and managed to screw around and not just throw strikes. Glad the offense showed up again today.

Nymr83 wrote: the logical thing to do would be to skip the 4th/5th starter pelfrey instead of pushing everyone back a day. george steinbrenner isnt hte owner here, we dont need to rearrange our rotation in may to face the MFY who arent even in our division. if we were playing philly friday i'd consider it. I agree with you in principle (about not shuffling the rotation just because it's the MFYs) but big-picture, if you skip Pelfrey's spot, that just means there's an additional start that weekend that will need to be taken by the #5 starter Figueroa (or whomever).
  25. Some interesting decisions coming ahead in the next few weeks with the rotation: 1. The double-header Saturday will necessitate an extra starter being available on Wednesday vs. the Nationals. Seems possible that Jorge Sosa may hold on to his roster spot a bit longer (rather than possible DFA to make room for Matt Wise). 2. With Santana and Pelfrey both pitching on Saturday, their next day to start for both would be Thursday. Pushing Santana back a day would ordinarily seem strange but given the quality of the opposing lineup, it would sure seem logical to throw Pelfrey Thursday and give Santana the extra day so he would pitch against the MFYs on the Friday. 3. After his start on Monday, Figueroa may not be needed for another start for a week (plus). Perhaps he will be the roster casualty for Matt Wise. 4. After the series with the MFYs, the Mets start a roadtrip the following Tuesday with a doubleheader in Atlanta. More roster shuffling could well be possible then. My projection: vs. CIN Sat May 10 (Game 1) - Santana v. Matt Belisle Sat May 10 (Game 2) - Pelfrey v. Bronson Arroyo Sun May 11 - Perez v. Johnny Cueto vs. WAS Mon May 12 - Figueroa v.
