The first time they ran into this problem (with the Pirates) the new game was scheduled for a mutual off day in August, and doing that caused the Mets to have a run in August of 23 straight days with a game. Survey says the desire to not do that again forced their hand a little bit.
  2. AG/DC wrote: As for Friday's patrons, they can choose from many loverly games, of course. Not really. Given the rate of ticket sales this year the Mets have sold (approximately) 35,000+ tickets for every remaining game. There's actually very little to choose from, especially at the higher pricepoints.
  3. ="AG/DC"]Double-admission doubleheaders are an affront to America. Gotta disagree with you here, big time. If they schedule it as a single admission doubleheader, those with tickets on Saturday are getting two games for the price of one (great for them!) but everybody who had tickets on Friday is then forced to A. Take the refund or B. Exchange their seats for a ticket for Saturday's game -- to which the best 50,000 seats were already sold, of course The Mets actually have one of the most fan-friendly rainout policies around, and the separate admission doubleheader is actually the best benefit for the consumers. You can either go to the rescheduled game, in the exact quality seat you paid for initially, or you can get a refund. Seems pretty fair to me. --- Now, would I like there to be scheduled single-admission doubleheaders? Sure. Those days are sadly long gone, however.
  4. ="Nymr83"]did they do anything for the fans who showed up tonight? i was at agame a year or two ago where they allowed you to mail in the tickets for another free game Yes. You can either go tomorrow night or refund your tickets. The "mail in your tickets and get a free game" thing is usually done when a game is in fact played, but after most people who had tickets gave up or didn't come due to rain/a long rain delay (and therefore wouldn't be entitled to a refund.
  5. Really shitty work by the Mets staff tonight, first not announcing the delay until 7:00, when I'm sure it was clear at least 15 if not 30 minutes prior to that that there would be a delay, then a 15 minute delay in announcing the postponement in-stadium (well after WFAN and the Rain hotline had the info).
  6. The potential is there, yes. But he has been pretty sloppy lately, particularly with blocking of the plate and throwing to second base.
  7. Sounds like the Reds are about a season or two away. They have Harang locked up for a while and lotsa money coming off the books for them with both Griffey and Dunn FA at the end of the year. Nice report, thanks.
  8. Reminds me of the old Dave Barry quote: "The difference between men and women is that if a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base."
  9. Cynic in me says it was the SNY version of the Immortal Chris Majkowski (sp?) who corrected Gary...
  10. Going into today's game, the Mets were the only team to not have a starting pitcher go more than 7 innings. With 7 pitches to retire the side in the 8th, sure looks like Maine will be going for the CG Shutout.
  11. The two easiest ones to memorize: 126-01 Roosevelt Avenue Flushing, NY 11368 1060 West Addison Street Chicago, IL 60613 One that I didn't know off the top of my head: 1 Brewers Way Milwaukee, WI 53214
  12. Well, Figueroa's next scheduled start would be against the Nationals on Monday - I wouldn't be too adverse to giving him that start. But I'd rather not have him go against the MFYs next weekend.
  13. Let me be the first to say I've had about fucking enough of Hong Chi Kuo. P.S. Whatever stat Gary and Ron were using for Kuo's "amazing" numbers versus the Mets obviously did not include 2006 NLDS Game 2, where we beat him just fine.
  14. Upon further review those nicknames (Manuel Laborers and Alomar Cookies) were Edgy-created. For some reason I had remembered them as "official," and appearing in a Marty Noble piece but I guess not. Link.
  15. Didn't the Mets use nicknames for their split-squad game at the beginning of the Spring Training this year? It was Jerry Manuel's team vs. Sandy Alomar's team. Can't remember the nicknames...
  16. Only 588 games remaining on Luis Castillo's contract...

Would flipping him and Tom Nieto -- or putting Jerry Manuel back out as a base coach -- really be that hard to do? Bucket has been all over him since he moved to coach third. Oh, I know. You can count me on that bandwagon.
  18. Gary and Ron talking about how thick Billingsley's legs are, and how his and Jonathon Broxton's are the thickest in the league. How quickly they forget Heath Bell.

  23. I'm going to call this a BIG Win ™. Despite two errors on our part; despite at least 2 blown calls on the bases by the ump; despite an inconsistent strike zone. Very very pleased to have taken 2 from the Diamondbacks. Willie looking smart today: 1. Leaving Alou in after he batted in the 7th rather than going to Endy for defensive replacement purposes. 2. Intentionally walking to get to the pitcher's spot with Santana at the end of his rope.
