  2. Best game of the year? I say yes. I *love* the on-field hero interview with the walk-off producer with Kevin after the game. Nice to get to see the pie to the face (Pagan, with an assist from Niese). I was watching the ball more than the runner but my impression on Jose's homer that he wasn't busting it out of the box and should've been on third when the umps were checking the replay. I just checked when I got home and curiously SNY didn't show a replay of this. I would've been fine with putting Pelfrey out for the 10th but that's not a huge problem. What I couldn't understand was why -- after using Cora/Carter to move the pitcher to the 8 slot -- he wouldn't put Rodriguez back out for a second inning. Last time a Mets pitcher went a full 9 - was it Johan's shutout at the end of the '08 season?

He's seemingly upped his defense How do you know this? although it appears he's taking less walks this year in exchange for more singles. "In exchange for" (??)

  5. Fielder's having a down year, so maybe Howard's the 4th best first baseman in the league now. He seems like a nice guy, and even ignoring the contract, he's still gotta be one of the most overrated players not named Jeter.
  6. Scott Hairston went yard too. Go Padres (tonight only).
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Sounds like another power arm if it all works out for Harvey. Draft is tough since you can pretend you like everything in the store but buy only one item. Feeling old -- Delino DeShields Jr.? Same here, although Delino Sr. did have the kid when he was 23.

That really wasn't my intention, I was just trying to not fuck with IGT mojo and share some enemy knowledge. We could just change the title to "Oliver's Injury and Screw You Hanley" and then lock it.
  9. Keep in mind that Dickey earned some beer with his bat as well as his pitching, so he's not exactly being overloaded for a very good-but-not-fantastic pitching performance.

  14. I have an extra ticket for Wednesday in a prime location (front row in the Caesar's Club "Silver" seats) that would otherwise be going unused -- and that I got free -- so it's open for the taking. Send a PM if interested...
  15. Exactly. Send his ass to Port St. Lucie and have him work on his stuff. Or let him rot there, I guess.
  16. Per Howie (and Chris M.) on the broadcast, this is the first all-homegrown infield the Mets have started in a game since a Huskey-Bogar-Ordonez-Alfonzo alignment in '96.
  17. I guess this stuff belongs in either a Marlins KTE or today's IGT but those threads are MIA. 1. Oliver Perez to DL with "knee tendinitis." 2. Hanley Ramirez running his mouth last night, "They boo their own players so we like to come here and beat the Mets.''
  18. Put it in the books!
  19. 2 for 6 as DH in extended spring training game today.
  20. Perhaps the fact that more of the games are in the "determining third" suggests that the Mets are underperforming and should have a better record than they do.
  21. Vic Sage wrote: All we're talking about in this thread is revisionist history, about which move would we want to undo. Certainly, the Bay/Middlebrook deal, in retrospect, was a bone-headed trade of youth for age in desperate and failed attempt to stay in the race, during the Steve Phillips `02 implosion. I object to the (frequent, not necessarily all by you) characterization of this deal as an obvious mistake because that certainly didn't become clear until several years later.
  22. I generally dislike Jayson Stark but the idea he was positing yesterday was for each manager to get one replay challenge per game. I don't see that as a problem.
