  1. Put it in the books!
  2. Good times in Charm City tonight. The park was teeming with Mets fans. I'd venture a guess at least a 50-50 split between fans, with Mets fans the more vocal of the two factions. Couple of miscellaneous observations: Rod Barajas warming up with Henry Blanco before the game by throwing knuckleballs. Adam Jones of the Orioles is a *really* solid defensive player and reminded me of what it's like to watch Beltran patrol the outfield. Remembering the Francisco-meltdown the last time the Mets were at Camden, I was genuinely fearful when Wieters strolled up as a pinch hitter. Just got home after a brief stop here:

Has this happened before? The closest I can come up with was the '69 Mets, who had Kranepool (platooned), Boswell, and Harrelson. This was discussed on SNY or WFAN recently I think. The most recent time this happened (prior to this year) was 1996 when the Mets had an infield of Huskey, Bogar, Ordonez and Alfonzo.
  4. Blanco 2 Nieve .5 Meija .5 Feliciano .25
  5. Niese 6 Reyes 1.5 Davis 1.5 Francoeur .5 Carter .5
  6. Dickey 4 Carter 3 Wright 2 Reyes 1
  7. Me gusta double plays.
  8. Very nice opposite field RBI double from David.
  9. If the Nationals pitch him every 5th day, yes, the Mets will miss him July 1, 2, 3, and 4. But if the Nationals pitch him every 5th day, as Boswell says they will, then he'll pitch on July 3. You said the exact same thing twice here. I have tickets for the July 4th matinee in D.C. Hopefully he's not pitching and I can see the Mets wail on some crumbum instead. Dude, your Gwreck research department produced that fact last month In all seriousness, I agree with Fman that it's probably better to miss him and just get the the crappier pitchers instead but part of me also wants the Mets to be the one to deliver his first whooping of the season.
  10. Nice job Luncbucket (and Happy Birthday/Anniversary too). Second the Obrycki's recommendation for the crabs. Did that pregame last year. This year we're heading down for the Saturday night tilt. Fernando Tatis is your only ex-Oriole, although I admit to having checked Blanco and Dessens because I wasn't sure.
  11. That was just outstanding. Entire team waited an extra 30 seconds in the dugout before the top of the 9th so that Niese came out first to a huge cheer. Many fans standing for the whole ninth inning. Angel Pagan was again the pie-in-the-face delivery man for the live, on-the-field postgame hero interview which I am an unabashed fan of.
  12. We're far overdue to deliver a beating to Heath Bell anyway. Top of the order in the 9th. Also I think David took him deep for a walkoff homer in a day game at Shea in '08 (?).
  13. Maybe they were slow to realize that.
  14. Stronger hitters (ie. Barajas) saved for second game, where Padres stronger pitcher and Mets weaker pitcher is going. Makes sense, no?

Anyway, as for Kerry Wood, I full well recognize that he had a "chance" to be a superstar/hall-of-fame level player and instead wound up with an injury-plagued career and a move to the bullpen. At the risk of Tom Glavine-style semantics hair-splitting, I didn't see his case as, you know, a devastating tragedy is all.
  17. Valadius wrote: Kerry Wood was a phenomenal talent, very sad that his career ended up the way it did. He's the closer for the Cleveland Indians. He's making $10.5 million dollars this year to play baseball.
  18. Game called. Separate admission doubleheader tomorrow (1:10 and 7:10 start). Tonight's tickets good for tomorrow night's game.
  19. We are in 309.
  20. I've tried to suppress any memories of that September/early October (baseball-wise).
