  1. More sloppy play and poor approaches at the plate continues to make Mendoza look bad.
  2. In fairness, Manaea has a 0.00 ERA…
  3. Just repeating it’s a 6-game sample size. That said, what are the alternatives? 1. Vientos getting significantly more ABs (because Baty starts playing second regularly). -Defensive downgrade. -Not clear what we’re getting out of Vientos offensively but presumably at least a power threat. 2. Mauricio gets called up and plays second regularly (Baty keeps his current role). -Defense is a slight (?) or moderate (?) downgrade. -Mauricio had a hot spring and is clearly better than AAA but was very unimpressive last year when in the majors. 3. External options Umm, we could try to trade for McNeil? Or if the Giants don’t have a good year, Luis Arraez is on a one-year deal and could get moved at the deadline?
  4. A couple of notes: 1. I admittedly don’t pay a lot of attention to the Giants but I wasn’t aware of any tradition that they played on Saturday afternoon. Their 2026 schedule has 7 starts at 1:05 Pacific, 2 at 4:15, 3 at 6:05, and 2 at 7:05. (Seems like a reasonable assortment of start times to accommodate a diverse fanbase, no?) 2. It is generally not possible for teams going out west to schedule the two LA teams back-to-back, because (a) those two teams typically don’t play at home at the same time; and (b) they play in different leagues. Same reason there are very few roadtrips that have Mets/Yankees back-to-back. (There are 2 teams that got lucky with Dodgers/Angels in consecutive series, and 1 got Mets/Yankees). There are few more teams that get SD/Dodgers back-to-back, and another couple that got SD/Angels back-to-back, but again, there aren’t enough spots for everyone to get so lucky. 3. While this is a lot of travel early, the post-June 7 schedule has only 9 games outside the Eastern time zone, with none starting later than 8 PM Eastern.
  5. Cano had $48M left on the deal when cut, versus $72M for Semien right now (and the Mets of course had saved another year of money in 2021 because of the Cano’s PED suspension). Also Semien plays gold glove defense and Cano…did not. Semien at age 34 had a 3.3 WAR last year despite a .669 OPS. While the first 6 games don’t fill me with hope but the Mets aren’t going to cut bait on Semien anytime soon.
  6. The offense that was relying on a Semien bounceback, Robert returning to 2023 form, Vientos returning to 2024 form, Alvarez sustaining the improvements he made post-demotion to AAA, Baty sustaining the improvements he made in 2025, and a rookie who barely played at AAA? That offense?
  7. April 2010, 20 innings. I believe Pelfrey got a save. A glorious game.
  8. Going to need a Soto home run here to win.
  9. Weaver threw 11 pitches and after the top of the 9th, the Mets knew they would also need to pitch the 10th in order to win. I’d have left him in for the 9th. Now Williams has thrown 17 pitches in the 9th and won’t go back for the 10th, and all the good relievers have been burned.
  10. Mets better score soon as it’s Weaver for the 8th, Williams for the 9th, and then Lovelady for extras.
  11. I suppose I was being polite when I called it an “odd” choice and not “the wrong” choice.
  12. Pinch hitting Benge to provoke the change to a lefty is an odd choice when Taylor could instead face a tiring Stanek.
  13. Strike 3 there to Semien wasn’t a strike and…oops, we have no challenges. Not good
  14. I agree. See also: the third-base debacle on Sunday, and Centerfield’s point about Mendoza not just saying “it was a mistake to send him.” If the offense starts hitting to potential then these smaller issues might not get much attention but unless a lot of bats wake up quickly, this could get ugly.
  15. Lot of sloppy play recently, and it’s on Mendoza to get this cleaned up.
  16. The latter. Monday it was announced that Zeile would join in SF. Tuesday that was changed to Keith also missing today’s game.
  17. It’s not getaway day in Kansas City. Their series against Minnesota ends tomorrow, so no need for a day game today.
  18. I also would’ve started him over Young but Stearns hasn’t returned my calls
  19. Lindor SS Soto LF Bichette 3B Robert CF Young 1B Vientos DH Semien 2B Benge RF Torrens C
  20. Myers is exciting to me because relievers who can go multiple innings are a very useful thing to have on the roster. Looked good his first two outings. Weaver also looked ok his first two outings but it’s very early.
  21. You are mixing two distinct issues there: pace of game (popular change) and earlier game times (club-dependent and not a universally popular change). Of course the pitch clock has been well-documented as an overwhelmingly positive change. Earlier game times, on the other hand, are not so popular and, more significantly, do not appear to move the needle on viewership. Indeed, the teams that have 7:00 PM local game times on weeknights are all in the very biggest markets: Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Astros, Rangers, Braves — these teams are all in located in the 10 largest metropolitan areas in North America. Rather, game times appear mostly to be set based on attendance concerns. Examples: the Red Sox and the Cubs start weeknight games earlier in April and September, and at normal times in the warmer months. And of course lots of clubs have earlier starts on M-Th nights but not Friday.
  22. Can’t sweep if you don’t win the first one. (and this is absolutely a series the Mets should sweep)
  23. He’s got a better OPS than Young against righties too.
  24. Lindor SS Soto RF Bichette 3B Polanco DH Baty RF Young 1B Semien 2B Benge CF Alvarez C —- Everyone raise your hand if you expected Jared Young (!) to get a start before Vientos or Tyrone Taylor.
  25. Nice weather the first two days in St. Louis but 80% chance of rain Wednesday is potentially problematic.
