  1. 1,253. Juan Soto 1,254. Clay Holmes (Do we need a new thread for this year?)
  2. DiComo reporting that Blackburn will start the year on the IL, with Brazoban and Kranick both making the team.
  3. Bring back Randall Simon and it might be funny.
  4. No offense to Metirish who’s reporting the news but I find both of those claims hard to believe: 1. The Mets were still selling season tickets as of Monday at 5 PM. The idea that they moved every last one? I guess it’s possible… 2. The Mets were drawing well over 3M in the last few years at Shea and even cracked 3M during the first year at Citi Field (the post-2009 attendance peaked at 2.8M in 2016). It would be quite remarkable for season ticket memberships to now exceed what they were back in the 2006-2009 timeframe. I guess it’s possible…but seems unlikely.
  5. Oh no 1. Please, can this team just for once, have an original idea? This is like when they were playing Sweet Caroline. 2. Those costumes are hideous 3. If this replaces the “Queens Crew,” still a net positive. But overall, this is just bad.
  6. 1. What will the Mets' record be? 104-58 2. Predict the NL East standings from 1 to 5: Mets, Braves (WC), Phillies (WC), Nationals, Marlins 3. Will the Mets make the playoffs (if so, as the division champ or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd WC)? Division Champs 4. If so, how far will they go? WS Champs (sweep; beat Dodgers 4-1 in NLCS, the only postseason game the Mets lose) 5. Who will be the World Champion? Mets 6. Number of regular season HRs for Pete Alonso: 44 7. Who will be on the cover of the 2025 winner of the Tabloid Cover Derby?
  7. The end of the partnership comes down to one and only one thing: money
  8. Bold prediction from the Mets Roster Central staff to ticket Mauricio for the major league roster and Madrigal for Binghamton. (I might bet the opposite).
  9. You don’t need it if you’re not in the Mets territory. A “normal” MLB.tv subscription already provides access to all the SNY games (except of course, certain games, if living in the territory of the Mets’ opponent). For those who do live in NY, it’s an interesting alternative to subscribing to cable just for SNY access.
  10. If Blackburn is even slightly good (save his rookie season of 10 starts, he’s never had an ERA+ above 100)…I’d be pretty shocked. Valentin was at least good once in his career before coming to the Mets. And, in fairness, so was Iglesias. Blackburn’s always been sub-par. I think he’s an ok dark horse as I expect him to be either bad or not on the team.
  11. How about Luke Ritter? Infielder. Hit 26 homers in Syracuse last year. 27 homers in 2023 between Binghamton and Syracuse combined. Maybe Madrigal gets hurt and Ritter gets a shot. I read about him in Will Sammon’s piece today in the Athletic. I’m not sure I knew about this guy before today.
  12. In reverse order: -Can’t a 40-man spot be cleared by sending Christian Scott to the 60-day IL? -If Blackburn opens the season on the IL, as expected, doesn’t that preserve a spot for Danny Young? -Was having only one reserve infielder a real issue last year, and will it be so again? Unlike the JD Martinez and Daniel Vogelbachs of the world, the Mets aren’t using a full time DH who can’t do anything else. And, McNeil can play three infield positions, Vientos two, and Winker can play first. So long as the one can credibly play shortstop, that seems sufficient.
  13. I don’t think Blackburn makes the opening day roster, and even if he was healthy it’s hard to say he would be assured a roster spot. I’d assess Danny Young as having the inside track for that spot, as a second lefty.
  14. What’s missing from that calculation is that injuries/a slightly down year means that the second year of the contract becomes much more likely. Put another way: the Mets wouldn’t have agreed to the contract if they didn’t think it highly likely Pete would hit at least that many homers.
  15. Despite an assassination attempt, shoulder injury, neck injury, and spinal stenosis, he got within 10 of the record. From a pure actuarial/probabilistic perspective, seems pretty likely that Pete won’t suffer all of those maladies over the next two years
  16. A couple of big differences next offseason, though: -Mets will clear more money off the books (Marte, in particular, but will also have a tradeable McNeil with only 1 year remaining on his deal). -Another year will have passed for the Mets to determine if any of their internal options can be reasonably considered to replace Pete’s production. There’s a much greater chance that a Mauricio or Williams or whomever will be ready to contribute at the major league level (something that the Mets decidedly do not have now). -External replacement options will be a lot more favorable than Christian Walker or Alex Bregman. Vladdy Jr. will be hitting free agency at age 26.
  17. July 4, at Citi Field vs the Yankees. Goes back-to-back following a Soto bomb. Preferably off Gerritt Cole but I’m not picky. USA
  18. My read is just that he gets the first $10M now, and the other $20M paid out across the rest of the 2025 season.
  19. It is being reported the Mets alternately offered a 3/$71 M deal (27 in year 1, 22 in years 2 and 3); not clear what the opt-outs/option years were in that deal structure.
  20. Pete has re-signed with the Mets. $30M for 2025, $24M player option for 2026.
  21. Also it’s kind of crappy to associate Vincent with that quote in death when it wasn’t something he said.
  22. I suppose “the cheap route” is perhaps better stated as “the unproven route.” The Mets need one more power hitter to provide sufficient lineup protection for Soto, and more broadly, to make the team good enough to win the NL East. That additional player — which they need to perform starting on opening day 2025 — not currently in the Mets’ system.
  23. I am very surprised to read about the Winker or Minter signings as a Plan B. The Mets needed a lefty reliever and a lefty bench/platoon bat even if Alonso re-signs. The Plan B is Bregman. Or, maybe, Santander and his 15 career games at first base. It would be stupid to sign Juan Soto but then go the cheap route on the additional power bat the lineup needs around Soto. Stearns is not stupid.
  24. Where do you get “weasel” from? I’ve not seen a single thing to suggest Pete isn’t acting in good faith. Negotiations can take a while.
  25. Bregman to third/Vientos to first is still probably the best alternative if they don’t sign Pete. After that? It gets much less desirable.
