Lots of fun with the last quiz, so adding in here its harder cousin. Can you name the highest entry on each franchise’s WAR leaderboard to have also played for the Mets? Example: Yogi Berra has the most WAR as a Yankee (#7 on that franchise list) of any player who was also a Met. What makes this hard is that all the easy/obvious answers came out in the earlier quiz: [th]Franchise Rank[/th][th]Franchise[/th][th]Player[/th][th]Other Franchise WAR[/th][th]Mets WAR[/th]1GiantsMays154.61.61NationalsCarter55.811.42AthleticsHenderson72.71.32RoyalsAppier47.13.53AngelsFregosi45.91.63Blue JaysBautista38.41.23BravesSpahn91.90.04DodgersSnider65.41.24MarlinsCastillo22.42.94OriolesMurray56.62.86CardinalsBoyer58.13.67Phillies47.2-0.57YankeesBerra59.7-0.18Padres20.4-0.28Red SoxMartinez53.88.19MarinersCano23.91.49TigersVerlander56.62.110Rangers31.21.213Pirates42.3-0.513White SoxVentura39.41115Brewers190.116Diamondbacks14.30.117Reds39.54.717TwinsSantana36.115.318Astros24.8-0.721Rays10.5-0.721Rockies11.80.836Guardians28.327.357Cubs21.81.7

Feels like these are two separate questions. Diaz’s absence is still the biggest head-scratcher because there was no good reason to not re-sign him. Everyone else’s absence I can reconcile with a plan to win except Diaz. The “Metliest” absence is easily Pete. Nimmo in second place but Pete both was a constant presence for 7 seasons AND owns significant Mets records.

Bold choice going with the guy already listed on the leaderboard as the example.

Something I came across recently and seems like an enjoyable [CROSSOUT]CPF[/CROSSOUT] GCM/WPM quiz: Can you name the players who are (a) in the top 5 of a franchise’s all-time WAR leaderboard; and ( also played for the Mets at some point in their career? Example: Willie Mays is #1 on the Giants all-time WAR leaderboard. He also played a few games for the Mets. Note: -Franchises (not teams), so Pilots/Brewers, Senators vs. 1/Twins, etc. are a collective unit. No distinction for city moves either. Stearns is optimistic that Lindor will be back for Opening Day. Mets haven’t made a right field decision yet. Not much groundbreaking here.

They do not. But this suspension conveniently occured after all the good free agents signed elsewhere. Others Busted twice for PEDs: Manny Ramirez Robinson Cano Guillermo Mota Marlon Byrd Neifi Perez Eliezer Alfonzo Francis Martes Jean Carlos Mejia Jennry Mejia (3x, lifetime ban)

Of course. Perhaps that was imprecise wording on my part. The majority of his career was with that team and that’s the team reflected on his HOF plaque. My number retirement stance is the only persons eligible are (1) HOF player, by the primary team; (2) entire career with team with a reasonable level of excellence.

Sabathia was elected to the Hall of Fame as a Yankee so I don’t see the issue. As for Roger Maris or Paul O’Neill or Andy Pettitte…a bit of a different story.

Vogelbach was actually quite good for the Mets in 2022: .255/.393/.436. Better OPS than Lindor, Marte, or Nimmo.

Oh let’s not forget how bad Tyler Naquin was too.

I don’t really agree with this, and I don’t think the data supports it. Starling missed the last 26 games of the regular season during which the Mets went 16-10 (.615), compared to 85-51 previously (.625). And the Braves had already caught the Mets in the standings at the time of the injury. Could have have made the difference of one more win in that stretch? Sure. But that 2022 team is far better than it gets credit for.
