  1. Where do you get “weasel” from? I’ve not seen a single thing to suggest Pete isn’t acting in good faith. Negotiations can take a while.
  2. Bregman to third/Vientos to first is still probably the best alternative if they don’t sign Pete. After that? It gets much less desirable.
  3. Agreed. And how could it be, with Soto also a free agent.
  4. I went to last night’s Syracuse Mets/Worcester Red Sox game. Vasil was pretty good but the two homers (both by former Brave Vaughn Grissom) were no-doubters.
  5. There’s one huge problem with this analysis: the Mets need both players (and have needed both) to be successful this year. If you “replace” Alonso with Vientos, then there’s still a hole in the lineup to be “replaced.”
  6. I read that they have been able to find some more room with center moving back to 392 feet, and alleys up to 387 feet. Will also be representing for the good guys in London this weekend.
  7. Nice! I think you're spot-on about Kauffman/Dodger Stadium - definetly KC underrated and LA overrated for similar parks.

  9. Still missing a few of the current ones, unfortunately. I'd rank them as follows: 1. PNC Park, Pittsburgh 2. Safeco Field, Seattle 3. Target Field, Minneapolis 4. Pac Bell Park, San Francisco 5. Minute Maid Park, Houston 6. Miller Park, Milwaukee 7. Comerica Park, Detroit 8. Camden Yards, Baltimore 9. Petco Park, San Diego 10. Citi Field, New York 11. Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia 12. Fenway Park, Boston 13. Nationals Park, Washington 14. Busch Stadium, St. Louis 15. Rangers Ballpark, Arlington 16. Wrigley Field, Chicago 17. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles 18. Kaufman Stadium, Kansas City 19. Bank One Ballpark, Phoenix 20. Comiskey Park, Chicago 21. Yankee Stadium, New York 22. Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati 23. Angel Stadium, Anaheim 24. SkyDome, Toronto 25. Oakland Coliseum, Oakland

  11. 2014 Mets with positive WAR, per Baseball-reference Lagares 5.5 Duda 3.7 deGrom 3.5 Wright 2.8 Murphy 2.0 Niese 1.8 Nieuwenhuis 1.4 Tejada 1.4 Granderson 1.3 Familia 1.2 Young 0.9 Den Dekker 0.9 Edgin 0.9 Torres 0.9 Carlyle 0.9 Recker 0.8 Wheeler 0.7 Eveland 0.5 Gee 0.4 Black 0.4 Campbell 0.4 D'Arnaud 0.3 Matsuzaka 0.3 Farnsworth 0.2 Herrera 0.2 Davis 0.2 Flores 0.2 Goeddel 0.1 Yes, I realize that list is only 28 players. One thing that I found curious was that Baseball-reference did not seem to combine a pitcher's "pitching WAR" and their "batting WAR." (So I went ahead and did it for them/us). Combining them results in Meija getting a zero WAR, and Colon in the negative, as you might expect: his batting seriously hurt the Mets.

If I am reading these right, I think that means Marlon will come in at #2 on the list of "highest rankings for players who played one and only one season with the Mets." I see Hampton at 131, and Capuano at 208, and I think Marlon fits in right between them.
  13. I haven't ever played in the CPF league before but if you're planning on switching to a new format next year and need players, let me know...
  14. Frayed Knot did quite a bit of analysis of it (as posted in this forum) but there doesn't seem to be a link to the list itself. Where is it hiding?
  15. Couldn't figure where to put this. From a recent Keith Law ESPN chat: Mike (DC) Whats your take on Josh Thole....backup catcher, league average catcher, solid regular? Klaw Solid regular with defensive improvement.
  16. I'm quite sure I bring up the low end here with 15. Movies - not really my thing.
  17. Is the full list available?
  18. I saw this in the theater last year. My recollection is that while it was in many parts a fascinating documentary, it came across much like an inside joke -- if you didn't get it back then, you can't get it now. The whole point of the campfires was supposed to be inclusion but they were presented as outsiders-not-welcome in the film and wholly inconsistent with Strummer's core values.
  19. I've tried and tried but I still don't get Bull Durham. It's just not funny.
  20. Wow. I would have expected Say Anything in a blowout. Iconic scene that you only wish you could've thought of yourself; superior use of music. Maybe it's boring now that it's been played to death but the Gabriel song is fantastic.
  21. Lethal Weapon, by a mile.
  22. Here's the 12-over-5 upset.
  23. "It's 200 miles to Chicago, we've got half a tank of gas, two packs of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses." "Hit it." --- Agree with those who said it's a no brainer.
  24. Funny, we just watched this last weekend in the Gwreck household. I agree with what Vic said (and not being a student of film, I couldn't have said it myself). As a student of rock and roll, however, it is abundantly clear how much Crowe put into the detail of accurately capturing in the film realistic and accurate scenes from a band on the road. Fantastic film, and one that I can always find myself quoting during a late night trip home from a show somewhere.

He grabbed it after his 4th season, still has it 37 years later, and is almost certain to hold it for at least another 6 seasons and quite possibly on beyond that. Presumably Wright has the best shot to knock Seaver off #1, and Reyes slightly behind him. The question is...how likely? I know the formula accounts for team wins in a season, but why is it 6 seasons minimum? What does being player #1 in a season with 97 wins get you? What about a season with 87 wins? etc.
