  1. Don't you dare McCann
  2. In terms of major league talent, we could still try to trade Dom Smith. Yes, he's been bad so far this year but clearly there's potential. In terms of prospects: the use of a top prospect chip to get a key starting pitcher is not a bad idea. If Berrios is going to be made available, let's chat with Minnesota. (Obviously Uncle Steve can handle the free agent market and re-sign both Stroman and Syndergaard in the off-season.)
  3. It appears you are conflating the problems and to whom blame falls. Problem 1: Someone designed ugly jerseys. No idea who did that. Problem 2: MLB requires that the ugly jerseys be worn in the game. That is 100% MLB's fault.
  4. =Ceetar post_id=69010 time=1624555415 user_id=102] I assume this is Nike's fault (And MLB bending over for a few bucks)
  5. Rob Manfred hates baseball.
  6. =seawolf17 post_id=68962 time=1624501454 user_id=91] We traded for Diaz specifically to strike out that guy in that spot. VERY nice.
  7. I don't know if I'm more relieved that that's not the case…or more embarrassed for the Mets that the clarification was necessary.
  8. Interesting. What was wrong with the food? From Tim Britton's Twitter: NEWS: This afternoon the Mets fired four clubhouse assistants and their long-time clubhouse chef. A team spokesman confirmed the firings and said, "We do not comment on personnel matters, except to confirm this had nothing to do with the WilmerHale culture review."
  9. Agree. It would be much more productive to talk about how hideous that (and the other ridiculous rule changes) are.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: It's disappointing to hear Keef talking about the universal DH as a fait accompli. Howie does this all the time, too. It's embarrassing.
  11. deGrom, Stroman, and Walker can only pitch 60% of the games. Peterson is very inconsistent. Lucchesi out for the year. Carrasco, Syndergaard, Yamomoto: can you count on getting a total of 25 starts combined from them in 2021? 20? 10? What's your plan? More Jerad Eickhoff? Move Lugo to the rotation? Trade for someone? Zack Scott seeks your suggestions NOW.
  12. I know we have to keep him in the bubble wrap, but deGrom is our best pinch running option, yes?
  13. Everyone out on the field at 2 PM for some running drills tomorrow.
  14. The 7 inning doubleheaders are already incredibly dumb. But 7 inning split doubleheaders are indefensible. Is Washington only charging 78% of the ticket price?
  15. First time at the park in close to two years. Stroman looked great and has tons of fun celebrating the defense (Pillar's catch; Alonso's diving grab and dive for the bag). What a fun guy to watch and a huge asset for the team. We need the reinforcements for the lineup.
  16. I will regrettably call you naive, sir. There are a lot that have not.
  17. As has been widely reported, 22 of the 30 MLB clubs have reached the 85% vaccination threshold. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31614014/mlb-says-22-teams-now-vaccination-threshold-pace-slowshttps://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31614014/mlb-says-22-teams-now-vaccination-threshold-pace-slows Somehow, the Mets remain one of the 8 clubs suffering this competitive disadvantage. Curiously, there has been little consolidate reporting of the other 7 teams so affected, but a little googling reports that the Cubs, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Padres, Phillies, Red Sox, and Twins are also needlessly putting themselves at a disadvantage. It seems odd that there has been little appetite to not press this topic more with team leadership and management.
  18. 2012 - Andres Torres
  19. 2001 - Desi Relaford?
  20. 2015 - Michael Cuddyer.
  21. I think Willie was the opening day left fielder in 2011 (Bay was hurt).
  22. 1. Would have hit for Lugo. 2. Would have been fine going to Familia for the 9th.

Especially given changing variables (the fortuitous Lucchesi-induced GIDPs are not reflective of the odds of Familia getting a fortuitous GIDP). I do agree that Familia's second inning (and his first) were indicative of problems.
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: Somebody had to get a big hit eventually I don't believe that. There are plenty of 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 games that the Mets have and will play in this season. Could we have won that game? Sure, if we had managed more than one meaningful hit in the entire game while the Pads kept up their 1-1 ratio of GiDPs & Innings, but those are tough odds to rely on. It's convenient to point to the offensive inadequacies of the team, the 3 starters out with injuries, and so forth. Obviously that remains a huge unsolved problem. But this was still a winnable game with 2 runs. It was not a fait accompli the Padres would get a big hit.
