  1. “Pansy” is not an acceptable word to use in that manner.
  2. SNY has discussed often that Rojas seems to get on the umps about ball/strike calls. That's fine, but I would also like to see more of that on big calls. The botched replay in Game 1 Saturday called out for it. Obviously the call isn't getting overturned once the replay is over. But since it was so clearly wrong, some discussion is warranted. The umpires rotate through the “replay” position and the guys on the field are going to be the reply official at a later date. Maybe Rojas even gets ejected, but it's a point worth making.
  3. The Brewers would be the Mets' opponent in the first round of the playoffs based on the standings entering this game.
  4. The most obvious counterpoint is that there are ample 7:10 starts Monday-Friday and allowing the occasional afternoon start - especially on a National holdiday - is not an imposition, and in fact may well be preferred by many, including potential tv watchers.
  5. That of course is the stated justification for every night game start. (Day games benefit attendees, not tv watchers).
  6. =bmfc1 post_id=70231 time=1625443014 user_id=73]More day games on Saturdays.
  7. Well, I think we probably still win if we go into the 7th up 5.
  8. Giving Mets fans a bad name. Don't interfere you jackass.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: I'm thinking of running Almora for Conforto. I'm fine with that. With the ghost runner it's unlikely that the lineup will get back to that spot. No need for ghost runners if we hit a 2 run double here.
  10. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Wait, I mean a shittier guy. Screw you, Chapman.
  11. It's awful. Just absolutely, unequivocally terrible.
  12. Great news, we've got a superior bullpen and only need 1 to tie, two to take a lead. Easy enough to do with 3 more innings. Wait, what's that you say? The rules are arbitrarily different for this game for no good reason? Screw you, Rob Manfred.
  13. Monday is the “holiday” because Independence Day falls on a Sunday. So why does Monday's game start at 7:10 PM?? The Mets are nominally “on the road” this weekend, but of course not really. And yeah, they're playing at 7 PM Sunday, but again, no travel. Our opponent, Milwaukee, has a day game today in Pittsburgh. If they were coming in from the West Coast, I'd get it. But Pittsburgh?
  14. I will say that I did think it was pretty crappy of Dave Roberts to have not at least invited Dave Martinez to be on the all star game coaching staff.
  15. I'd give Smith the 9th too. This DH rule is idiotic, but we may as well take advantage.
  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: Okay, danger averted. So who gets the last 9 outs? Stupid AL rules benefit us, so we keep Familia in for the 7th. Then maybe Smith.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Beltran is marginal? Ouch. No, Beltran is a no-doubt Mets Hall-of-Famer. But there's that side issue that would prevent him from being the next inductee. Same with Reyes, who on statistics alone is a no-doubt candidate, but there is an off-the-field issue. No personal affronts intended, but Al Jackson, Ron Hunt, and RA Dickey were the marginal candidates to which I was referring.
  18. Rained out. Split DH Sunday.
  19. Yankees' Twitter account says next weather update at 8:30. I agree they try to play tonight. Likely to get rain tomorrow night too, and if they play, Saturday's game can go to Sunday afternoon if necessary.
  20. I admit that I don't know if there's a rule about what Stroman can do while on the bereavement list. If it's like the disabled list, one would think he could still be with the team, thrown in the bullpen, work with trainers, and so forth - but just not play in Friday's game.
  21. The bereavement list is a minimum of 3 and maximum of 7 games. So yes, it appears to have been a premature move to activate Stroman today.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I have nine more names that I would nominate, beyond those that have already been officially placed on the table. By contrast, I don't think there are 9 names in total that I would put in. Even including Reyes and Beltran (who have some issues with their candidacies). I'm not a fan of marginal candidates being inducted. Maybe I could get to 9 if I included Gary and Howie.
  23. I don't understand. Conforto can't play against a lefty but McKinney can?
  24. Ken Rosenthal had a column in the Athletic explaining it. Administrative leave is not disciplinary, the player continues to get paid, no impact to service time accrual, etc. He just doesn't play. The player also gets to request an immediate (within 24 hours) hearing for reinstatement. The union could still probably file a grievance if they wanted (especially if missing a start contributed to missing a performance incentive, eg. innings pitched or number of games started) but they're less likely to win since it was a Commissioner action, not a team action.
