I get that it's a PITA to keep your hopes pinned on this guy, and of course you need an adequate offense but if David Wright wants to try to come back, who am I to say, "No, I want you to retire." He's obviously not guaranteed anything or we'd have seen him in the last few years. Rooting? They are demanding it. I'm with you. If Wright wants to try and play again you have to be a pretty disloyal fan of his (and the team) to demand he hang up his cleats. Dave has given so much to us. He deserves our loyal support. I don't think he's doing it for the money Nymr83. He's pretty well off as it is. I don't think he's putting himself thru this grueling comeback process for the bucks. I think that it has become a challenge to him and he is determined to pull it off. I don't think he is just doing it for the money either, but given how much he stands to gain financially i'm not about to praise him for it.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: You have to admire his determination. Although it would be more accurate to phrase it as "He intends to keep trying to play." Has he already had the rotator cuff surgery? Or is it still something that's scheduled? There are so many injuries and surgeries that I can't keep track of them all. I'd be pretty determined too to show up for rehab to make millions of dollars. remember, retirement = no cash (barring a settlement)
  3. Harvey done for a pinch hitter after 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, only 74 pitches. this after they almost pitched him on 3 days rest. does it feel like there is just no plan, no organizational philosophy, just a day by day exercise in doing what they feel at the moment and hoping it works?
  4. Best of luck to D-Dad in his recovery. Obviously, no two injuries are exactly the same. That being said, IF the injury was the same, you'd have to think the man who is much younger, doesnt have children to chase around, and has no other job besides rehabbing, is in much better shape to recover sooner.
  5. Verlander to Houston!
  6. Lefty Specialist wrote: Jeez, there isn't ANYONE in the minors who can play the outfield competently? Picking up Aoki just sounds like a waste...... Well there is this one guy who might boost attendance and merchandise sales...

  8. 41Forever wrote: Heard on the radio today that the Astros asked the Rangers to simply flip their series, so the upcoming games would be in Arlington instead of Houston, and then the later games be in Houston. The Rangers declined, saying team would be on the road for the final four series of the season, and that it would be unfair to season ticket holders and others. Hence the game in St. Pete. I don't know what the Astros' objection would be to playing both series in Arlington. Rangers offered them all the revenue from the series as well, they said their real objection to flipping series was that it would be unfair to Rangers fan with tickets to the September series to tell them their seats were now good for 24 hours from now instead. I agree with the Rangers here, and the comments on social media from McCullers about greed are bullshit.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Harvey set to start Friday. HARVEY! ESPN announces Harvey will be skipped against the Astros as his name bears an unfortunate similarity to a Hurricane and may upset Houston residents.

  11. d'Kong76 wrote: Put me down for one who isn't rooting nor interested which christian has the better BA and at what level. You really keep track of that? Yikes. i didnt even know Judge was a practicing Christian. can't a guy just root for funny/embarrassing things to happen to the yankees?
  12. I don't usually like Collins' moves but I applaud this one for thinking outside the box
  13. I'm actually surprised the Mets would risk the insurance money by letting him play. all it takes is one "team doctor" related to Jeff Wilpon who insists he isn't healthy enough yet...
  14. its Tebow, were you ever in doubt when you started reading that what the end result would be?
  15. damn. so close to getting Conforto to the plate as tying run.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Moustakas schmoustakas. Jason Bayoustakas? whoever pays him is going to wayyyy overpay and regret it before 2018 even ends.
  17. ...So says this silly article, but its fun to read. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20405348/73-61-37-real-home-run-record-anyway
  18. should have called this thread "Memories of Curtis Sucks" - great guy, sad to see him gone.
  19. Ceetar wrote: I pretty much disagree with much of it, but it's Sherman so that's not really surprising. as is usually the case, yeah. line by line-- #1 is irrelevant - Cabrera has a buyout making his effective price 6 million next year, i'd bring him back at that price and worry about the details later. #2 - this is the same as his #1 but with plans for next year too. i guess he had column space to fill. #3 - Moustakas would be a terrible guy to pay, look at his numbers before this year. this would be Jason Bay 2.0 #4 - Matz has a 5 ERA and i'm not convinced he is healthy. If Donaldson or Machado are available, even as 1 year rentals, I'd deal Matz in a heartbeat and try to convince those guys to stay here Cespedes-style #5 - Prado? no thanks. Gonzalez? not sure why he'd even be available. unfortunately, the threat of Wright returning to action is a really big detriment to the team. i'd be strongly encouraging him and the insurance company to all sit down and work something out that everyone can agree to - Wright gets like 95% of his money and no commitment to continue trying to rehab (but he becomes a FA and could even re-sign here with nothing to lose if he wanted to), the Mets and the insurance company split it up in a way they can both live with and realize that both come away better off than they potentially could have been.
  20. I dont particularly mind the color, but that NY is much too large and hideous, it looks like a knock-off t-shirt
  21. the real secret of the Bruce trade, the Mets are trying to clear room for the guy who just won't go away! The Haters will still find a reason to hate
  22. this is lame. unless they sell Bartolo Colon "BIG SEXY" jerseys, then i'm down.
  23. yeah, i dont buy that the Yankees valued cash over talent, they'd probably write Wilpon a cool $100 million check to trade Syndergaard for scrubs right now i the offer was available. this trade blows, I'd have rather kept him and made the qualifying offer in November, worst case you have him back for next year on a 1 year deal with no established 1B on the roster (a position he can fake) and who know if Granderson is back either.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Check out a couple of golden pieces of baseball writing, as Ben Reiter at Sports Illustrated recalls the tragic tale of Hideki Irabu, and Dave McKenna at Deadspin recalls the tragedy that didn't happen, the teenager who fell out of the upper deck of Riverfront Stadium and somehow pulled an unlikely gymnastics grab to save his life. Sad stuff about Irabu... If you all want a happier, though not baseball-related, story, check this out. Most NBA/NFL players go bankrupt and that number is even higher for #2 overall picks who are among the biggest busts in draft history. but this guy didn't blow his money and even though he sucked at basketball he is winning at life - http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/20211833/nba-bust-darko-milicic-finds-success-back-home-serbia
  25. was that Rosario's first hit or an error?
