  1. Drew Smyly intrigues me, if he will sign a multi-year deal on the cheap to rehab with us now and help next year.
  2. I can only hope this goes VERY poorly. lolyanks!
  3. Why would you not expect Wheeler to be tendered? Harvey was certainly a non-tender candidate, but at the end of the day the talent might still be in there somewhere, so you might as well bring him back, since its just one year - if he is successful trade his ass at the deadline!
  4. Well yeah, there is nobody on this roater who os good enough AND defensively challenged enough that they cant be moved to another spot or benched if the right player comes along.
  5. I don't even remember Koo. Jae Weong Seo was awesome for a little while.

  7. Would we let Sydergaard play the outfield or even DH if he were our best option? I'm not sure. Because you are right that the statistical likelihood doeant factor into decision making. Lets pretend that Syndergaard would be worth half a win over the season if we used him as our #1 pinch hitter instead of whoever would get those ABs instead. But, if he gets hurt doing it, Jeff Wilpon fires you. Would you do it? Because unfortunately that is the "real" math I suspect they are doing in making these decisions.
  8. Save it all for Bryce Harper next winter
  9. The added challenge, is that he bats left handed meaning his pitching arm is sticking out there to get hit by pitches as a batter - a scary proposition for a team relying on his arm but using him as a part time hitter.
  10. I'll sign up for Smith turning into Lind if Syndergaard can be Gooden without cocaine.

Even the best reliever won't get my vote over a deserving starter who had to face lineups 2 or 3 times and pitched 3 times more innings. When Clemens, Schilling, Mussina, and all the deserving position players are in, i'd think about him.
  12. Fman99 wrote: Possible FA target for the Mets, sez ESPN. Pass. I don't see the sense in bringing in another lefty 1B and stifling Smith in the process. Well, if Joey Votto is available Smith can go play at AAA until we trade him. I don't see the sense in a mediocre lefty either. if the Mets bring in a mediocre player he should be a platoon guy and a right-handed hitter (and presumably thrower) who can play 3rd in a pinch would be even better - i think its pretty clear the Mets are going to have infield needs in 2018. it is less clear where the biggest needs will be so position flexibility seems paramount to me right now, unless you are bringing in a clear star.
  13. Fuck "closers" - Shaw is a good pitcher, sign good pitchers. Worry about role nonsense later.
  14. Lefty Specialist wrote: I'd give Rosario a little more time before panicking, fer criminy. I don't think the article is "panicking" at all.
  15. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/21508043/mlb-players-association-agree-new-posting-system-shohei-ohtani according to this, a new system (which is one more year of the current system) was agreed to, but needs the sign-off of all 30 clubs - if i'm a club without max bonus money I would VETO this shit and take my chances with Ohtani waiting til next year when I too could pay him.

  17. Ceetar wrote: limited, but not no, value. so yeah. The majority of the expectation of Rosario is still based of scouting/minors but those 170 PA happened, and count. How much do they count? that's the article. This is exactly what I was about to write. Sure Rosario could still be great, but lets not ignore the possibility he could be Lastings Milledge. A possibility that has gone up at least a little bit in probability based on these 170 AB
  18. Is there any player you dislike more than Jeter? I'd probably say Tom Brady is the only competition.
  19. Chipper is now 3 votes over the "i voted" tag
  20. the real scandal is right there. the Marlins have just become the Yankees private farm system, like that guy who has his girlfriend or little brother in your fantasy league that only trades with him
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Chipper Jones' support has reached 125% of the electorate. I'm pretty sure that would beat Ken Griffey's total. the "I voted" option may actually be counter-productive. if someone doesnt read it they can throw off our totals AND vote for an 11th player
  22. I am not interested in the Schilling-character-assassination game. He definitely keeps my vote. Scott Rolen is an interesting one and I think he gets overlooked a lot. We have at least one person who didnt check "I voted" right now, assuming support for Larry Wayne is unanimous. Nobody disagrees that Bonds would be in on stats alone. He isn't exactly in the Palmiero (failed a test) category buy he isn't in the Bagwell (nothing but suspicion) category either. I'd let him in, enough already. To be clear, Clemens is just as deserving as Bonds. I just dont like him. I'd vote for him if there wasn't a 10 player limit.
  23. Bonds Kent Chipper Vlad Manny Vizquel Schilling Sosa Mussina Walker. That's 10. I still can't vote for a full time DH over any if these guys. I also wont consider relievers when there is such a glut on the ballot. Or Clemens, he deserves it, but I dont like him, so he can wait until I have ballot space. Andruw would be a strong consideration as well, if I had more room or if you talked me out of someone. Vizquel was probably my last one in in that regard.
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think he actually said that he would "love" them, that he would love each and every player. That he would love Matt Harvey. He would love Juan Lagares. He would love Hansel Robles. He would love Mark Reynolds. (I don't recall Dallas Green ever saying anything like that.) And yes, he also said that he would hold them accountable. It sounded like he was talking about a paternal love, rather than a puppy love. (I guess if the Mets wanted that they would have hired Donny Osmond.) So it would sometimes be the kind of tough love that parents need to exercise at times. "You know I love you, Hansel Robles, but you need to clean up your room, and you need to throw strikes." He'll love them so much that there will be a restraining order! The urine test is to make sure that players are properly hydrated and therefore less likely to pull muscles. until the first time MLB tries to confiscate and drug test it, then there will be no more testing.
  25. Ceetar wrote: Centerfield wrote: Guys, this is like Luis Castillo without the walks. for more money. Exactly. Pass. The only conversations I want to have with the Marlins start with "ok, so for a bag of balls, you'll pay a third of Stanton's contract, but if we keep the balls and throw in d'Arnaud you'll only pay a fourth?" Or "No, I didnt realize you were dumb enough to trade Ozuna. Yes, of course we'll give back Nimmo"
