  1. ]Btw, is it the chicken or the egg? Can fans not cheer without prompting from the PA system or has all the noise made it so that fans can't start their own cheers even if they want to? the whle thing for jose reyes started out as the fans, then the idiots decided that the fans needed prompting to keep doing it. oh and i HATE that whole "everybody clap your hands" thing.
  2. fans cheer for delgado....and then boo him for not giving the curtain call.
  3. Delgado knocking his way out of the slump?
  4. you watched GOLF instead of the mets?
  5. wagner has thrown 9 hitless innings this year, i'm a bit annoyed that he had to pitch today at all. aftet bouncing the opposing starter in the 3rd inning the mets cant just go the remaining 6 without scoring, they to need to pounce on the soft underbelly of an already depleted bullpen.
  6. Pagan triples, get him home!!

Shea is a very strange park this year with citifield looming out in left field, i have no idea what effect that has on the wind patterns but i have to imagine it makes a mess of things
  8. Delgado gets that ball out of the park a few years ago.
  9. pushups. willie mays-hayes style. anyway, its nice to have hudson out after only 3 innings, lets light up the atlanta bul;lpen so they'll all be tired for the next game
  10. Molina almost made it 5-2 but Prado made a leaping snag of a line drive at 3rd.
  11. nice run scoring play, Delgado might have intentionally left the base path to get in the way of teixeira's potential throw home

If they wait 'til the team is ten games under .500 then they've waited about ten losses too many. yes, he was lucky last winter to keep his job, but my point still stands, it does the team no good to say "he's our guy" all offseason and then cut him loose a month into the season.
  13. Pelfrey that was horrible, the pitcher gets a hit and then the leadoff guy hits a bomb, and this i all after you were handed a lead.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Why doncha split the "when should they fire Willie?" bits from the game thread. I think that's on the verge of becoming a toipic worth discussion. ]Not 'til May 1. Protocol. how about "not til 7-8 games out and/or 10 games under .500." you all know i dont like his managing, but if you're going to start the year with a guy you should give him a long enough leash to hang himself instead of booting him the first time things get bad.
  15. i don't think DH ever needs to enter the discussion when a guy's numbers aren't borderline, they're shoe-in
  16. i dont think loduca was any better than piazza (in his prime) defensively.
  17. ]Surprised as I was by Nymr's tolerance (preference even) for the defense-first approach the Mets have taken to filling their catching roster i'm not sure if its a preference, i'd take a mike piazza any day of the week, but recognizing that such a player is unavailable i think i like schneider's defense more than i'd like a .270 hitter with no pop and no glove. as for a backup catcher its nice when they have pop AND defense like castro, but one can hardly expect an organization to have their 3rd and 4th catcers be any good at all, if they were they'd be playing elsewhere because its a very shallow position in terms of talent league-wide.
  18. i dont think its comic-book related, i am legend really stunk, though i blame the script, smith did the best he could. most of his movies have been above average if not good. i'll probably see that one. Iron Man coming may 2nd. Unlike The X-Men, Spiderman, and Daredevil I was not much of an Iron Man reader as a kid so I doubt the inconsistencies with the comic will annoy me in quite the same way they did with those movies.
  19. .302/.420/.559 for a 19 year career sound like gauranteed hall numbers to me, he's not going to get to 3000 hits, he was too busy drawing 1639 walks, 9th all time, and he's hit 516 homers. his OPS is 12th all-time, his OPS+ 19th. anyone who thinks he doesnt belong in the hall either caught him holding a syringe of HGH or is an idiot
  20. winning a bunch of games before any of their current fasns were born doesn't make them any less "losers" just like yankee championships 50 years ago are meaningless.
  21. i just flipped channels from 11 to 5 (for seinfeld at 11) and got to see the homerun off heilman twice in a row. fuck.
  22. wow according to the radio this was the first HR Saul Rivera had allowed since this same day last year, 434 batters ago.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: FJM.com points out the folly of the a small sample size, particularly as Wally uses Reyes's start: .280, 4 BBs, 3 SB, 12 runs scored, .313 OBA, to proclaim him to be "no Derek Jeter". And the main problem in his argument is the (conviently ignored) start of the great Jeter: .277 BA, 2 BBs, 0 SB, 7 runs scored, and a .309 OBA, fool. the great jeter does not deign to hit in april, wait until october!
  24. that sucked.
  25. Milledge scratched from the lineup because he was late getting to the stadium today (per wfan), sound familiar to anyone?
