  1. John friggin Lannan struck out 10 Mets at Shea earlier this year too. I wasn't counting last night, but hte Mets seemed baffled by Tim Redding as well.
  2. i just tur4ned the game on in time for the 1st hit. FUCK. back to work.
  3. sharpie wrote: I don't have a problem with altering a rotation slightly in order to have your best pitchers face superior lineups. but by doing that you potentially cost him total starts. also, its not like you are pushing him back to face the superio phillies lineup who you must beat to reach the postseason, you're pushing him back to face a non-league opponent. the nationals, having not (yet) eliminated themselves in the NL east or wildcard should be more relevant to your planning than the MFYs.
  4. i dont like it. your best pitchers should start as often as possible and never be pushed back barring actual injury. "thinking" like this by the mets will cost Santana and Maine a couple of starts each, starts that will instead go to the least deserving pitchers in the organization. this could matter in a close race.
  5. i dont like sacrifice bunting much at all, but if reyes thinks he can get on base by dropping one down instead of swinging the stick thats fine. the manager needs to monitor that and if he sees that his BA on bunt attempts is lower than swinging the bat he should put the redlight on it
  6. ]But he wasn't booed at all. Because when there are 800 people, you can be picked out of a crowd by a large man with a bat. are you joking? when i think they can hear me is when i'd really like to yell something at players
  7. whoops, its hard to remember whose still here. either way, you are smoking something if you think Martinez gets you Blanton and Street. I don't even think he'd get you Blanton on his own.
  8. Grote15 wrote: Off the subject but Billy Beane would probably take Fernando Martinez for Joe Blanton & Huston Street.. Might help us big time in the now. Beane doesn't get raped like that, you sound like a WFAN caller who thinks a met prospect is worth whatever you want. You want those two pitchers? I don't think the Mets have the chips, but if I had to make a realistic offer I'd say Martinez, Guerra, and a 3rd player, maybe Dan Murphy
  9. the umpires and managers are PAID to know this rule, providing us with a link and saying "well, its confusing" isn't an excuse for them, its an excuse for the fan who didnt get it.
  10. Zvon wrote: Reds are busted by Willie for batting out of order. Guess he IS paying attention. NO, HE'S NOT. the rule is that the proper batter gets called out, but since ross made an out anyway he just bats again for himself wioth his out attributed to patterson. willie SHOULD HAVE waited until patterson (the second guy who would have batted out of order) did something and then potentially got an out even if petterson had hit/walked (in ross' spot)
  11. STOP WALKING PEOPLE
  12. TheOldMole wrote: Just tuning in. Perez stole a base????? without even a throw. Cueto is slow to the plate, the 1st baseman wasn't holding him, and Cueto didnt even bother to look over.
  13. Perez has a SB and now with 2 outs he gets a bunt single!
  14. ]1. The double-header Saturday will necessitate an extra starter being available on Wednesday vs. the Nationals. Seems possible that Jorge Sosa may hold on to his roster spot a bit longer (rather than possible DFA to make room for Matt Wise). Sosa is possibility, but i'd also consider bringing one of them back on short rest, Santana if he doesnt pitch too many pitches tommorow or Pelfrey "hey rook, do something for the team here" ]2. With Santana and Pelfrey both pitching on Saturday, their next day to start for both would be Thursday. Pushing Santana back a day would ordinarily seem strange but given the quality of the opposing lineup, it would sure seem logical to throw Pelfrey Thursday and give Santana the extra day so he would pitch against the MFYs on the Friday. the logical thing to do would be to skip the 4th/5th starter pelfrey instead of pushing everyone back a day. george steinbrenner isnt hte owner here, we dont need to rearrange our rotation in may to face the MFY who arent even in our division. if we were playing philly friday i'd consider it. ]3. After his start on Monday, Figueroa may not be needed for another start for a week (plus). Perhaps he will be the roster casualty for Matt Wise. that makes sense ]4. After the series with the MFYs, the Mets start a roadtrip the following Tuesday with a doubleheader in Atlanta. More roster shuffling could well be possible then.
  15. ]As for Friday's patrons, they can choose from many loverly games, of course. My issue is with the death of single-admission doubleheaders in general, though. Secondarily is the flaw of having 56% of your home series being the only trip to town for the team, necessitating these things. the first "problem" is more understandable, i hate the schedule too but theres no real answer other than the elimination of interleague play (which i'm in favor of) or playing less games against your own division (which i don't want happening.)
  16. AG/DC wrote: Double-admission doubleheaders are an affront to America. to me it depends on when you reschedule for, if you reschedule for during the same series i'd rather a day/night so you can honor the tickets from the day before. if you're scheduling it somewhere down the road i'd do one admission. sellouts are also a consideration, if you reschedule a friday game against the yankees i'd HATE to see a one admission DH the next day because you've robbed 50k fans of seeing a mets/yanks game which is what they paid for (as opposed to tonight where i'm sure 95% of the fans dont care that they were playing the reds, they would have been as happy with any opponent) did they do anything for the fans who showed up tonight? i was at agame a year or two ago where they allowed you to mail in the tickets for another free game
  17. i'd rather see delgado 6th, schnedier 7th, and castillo 8th with church 2nd. i'd also rather see Easley 6th/7th with castillo not playing the way our hitting has been.
  18. No word yet on mets pregame as to whether they will play in the rain tonight.
  19. this poll appeared on the Mets official website, pretty strange thing for a team to ask the fans... ] Which bullpen combination would you prefer? Schoeneweis, Smith, Sosa 27% Schoeneweis, Smith, Wise 41% Schoeneweis, Sosa, Wise 5% Smith, Sosa, Wise 27% Results delayed up to 5 minutes.
  20. i havent seen it yet either and am avoiding our iron man thread even though i really want non-spoiler reviews
  21. Castro off the DL, Cssanova designated for assignment.

]I don't know what to conclude, but "new ballpark effects are a lie" is a fair (though not necessarily accurate) inference to draw. what were the Mets average attendances the last few years both overall and this early in the season? there might be a "last chance to see shea" effect too.
  23. ]and his heralded defense is terrible . have you been watching the same team as us? i think schneider's defense is great, he's made plays on bunts and gunning out runners that i've never seen from a mets catcher
  24. they just showed on the news that Church's homerun was caught by a fan holding an infant!
  25. This just in from NYY PR dept: Jeter performed the birth himself while also saving a cat from a tree.
