  1. Hopefully Jeff Wilpon will spring for a snazzier alien costume.
  2. If I were Stanton I'd make it 100% that I'm done with the Marlins, trade me too because I will never re-sign.
  3. run of the mill superhero movie that i finally saw. i grew up on Marvel, so i didnt know or care about any messed up history here (that i'm sure pissed DC fans off), i thought it was mediocre, the entire plot was too obvious even down to "gee i bet the other lanterns are about to show up and rescue Hal from falling into the sun with green chains"... and they did. with green chains. this would have actually been better if they had accepted that the story wasnt good and did MORE special effects, because the limitless things he could do with the ring were cool and could have been funnier (the AA gun made me giggle)
  4. Good news! Memories of Bay.... Yeah, I got nothing. He tried hard on defense, I just wish his bat hadn't vanished when he signed here. I don't see why he wouldn't have left ANY money on the table. He was owed 13+3, maybe he decided he'd rather take 12 or 13 and try to play every day somewhere with a team that isn't ddown on him.
  5. Yeah, it lacks the tiny speck of possibility that the Soviets had, but so what, its just a movie. I probably won't bother seeing it though.

    Sugar

I liked it, more for the lack of Disney-ending than anything else. I'm also glad to have finally watched it after it sat on a shelf for 2 years. What were the pills he took? Someone said steroids but I thought they were something else, the sudden results plus the way he suddenly gets dizzy or whatever doesn't say steroids to me, he took something that numbed the pain in his foot but he clearly overdosed (the guy tells him to take half a pill and I think he downed 2 or 3),
  7. Whether its specifically Valverde or someone else isn't the point, the point is that multi-year big dollar closer contracts generally don't work out, and then everyone forgets that and keeps giving them out.

  9. -A's did very well here, getting a talented centerfielder for trash. -Marlins did well to jettison the Bell experiment without paying ALL of that terrible contract -Luis Gonzalez hit that beautiful bloop single up the middle off Rivera, fuck the Yankees. Oh, the trade? They got killed. Keith Law puts it best: the Marlins were lucky to unload Bell and nobody will remember it when some dumb GM gives Valverde 3 years 36 million this offseason.
  10. I bought a Phuck Philly shirt from him so he must be a nice guy!

Maybe it's not your favorite, but not even in the Top 50?!?! He left off TWO movies that are in my top 5. Shawshank and The Hunt for Red October.

  13. Really loving this Tigers series so far!
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: RA DICKEY TRADE VALUE -------- This really answers a question we had 2 months ago. "Why does a team that clearly needs to be in rebuilding mode with a 38 year old asset signed to a reasonable contract not trade him at the deadline?" And now we know.
  15. Trout in a landslide imo, the defense he provides blows Cabrera away.
  16. I don't see any obligation, not even a moral one, to not take the dough. By signing a multi-year deal the team took on the risk of overpaying for underperformance while the player took on the risk of being underpaid for overperformance (would the team be offering him raise if he was awesome? No.) But if he feels he isn't performing and would rather retire than keep sucking, good for him. He probably should have worked out a buyout though!

  18. No cheating if you already saw this on Adam Rubin's blog: David Wright has played 1258 games all with the Mets. Only 5 active players have played more games all with the same team, name them: (Hint: Brian Roberts has played 1250 for Baltimore and falls just short)
  19. Griffey and Griffey I knew right away but I never would have guessed the others.
  20. The tree, with a 2-foot-thick trunk, was there long before the Oleruds built their home Case Closed, imo.

  22. yeah they gave me every reason to look for food tonight. sat directly behind the plate in the first few rows of the upper deck (or whatever they call the highest section now), a spot that feels a mile lower than sitting front row of the upper deck behind the plate at Shea, where i enjoyed the Todd Pratt game from.
  23. Want a beer metfairy? Highlight of tonight's game: I learned there is now a Cinnabon here!
  24. First (and probably only) trip of this year tonight. I'm about as interested in the food as I am in the Mets right now.
  25. Very smart marketing move by the Padres... why risk local youths becoming fans of the MFYs or ::gasp:: the Giants just because they got stuck with their uniform in little league? lets get them ALL wearing different Padres uniforms! This is an A+ long-term business plan!
