  1. 3 catchers for a 1 game series? dumb. there had to be a better hitter than Plawecki to choose from. Nimmo?
  2. Why did Stroman come out after 6 innings/80 pitches in the DH league?
  3. lets hold off on Selig - there is plenty of positive but also negative, I want to see how his legacy looks in 10 years. Steinbrenner getting in would be disgraceful McGwire is close but as someone already said - we shouldn't have a 'Veterans Committee' putting guys in right after they didn't get in on the merits. I'd take "none of the above"

Frayed Knot wrote: So what we want to root for now* is for the Giants and Cards to tie for the 2nd WC and have them spend Bumgarner & Carlos Martinez against each other on Monday while we sit back and wait for Wednesday. * why is this just now occurring to me?!?! yeah - I'm rooting for that, and I want the Cardinals to win that game because they don't have anyone as good as Cueto (arguably not even as good as Samardzija)
  5. bad job by the reds - its a game winning run if it stands, why is the manager waiting for anyone to tell him to challenge? just challenge!
  6. HahnSolo wrote: How do the umps just leave the field leaving the Reds with no ability to challenge? This just in from Reds' legend John Franco: "The Umps told me they had a plane to catch"!
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: Centerfield wrote: That is a terrific idea. Push back the capable starting pitcher and burn the bullpen in the first game of the series. Well played Philly. Well, they'll be resting from Monday on anyway. a "bullpen game" against a contender the last weekend of the season? that is an embarassment whether or not it is nationally broadcast.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: According to the Daily News this morning, the Mets are considering Colon on three days rest for Friday's game so he can be on regular rest for Wednesday if Syndergaard has to pitch on Sunday. If they wrap things up early enough, and Syndergaard can pitch on Wednesday, he'd likely get the start on Sunday and pitch two or three innings as a tune-up. good plan.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Well, if the Giants and Cardinals end up tied for the second wild card spot, neither team will have their ace lined up for the Monday tie-breaker, so that wouldn't impact who starts the Wednesday game. Hopefully the Mets punch their ticket before Sunday's game, let Ynoa or Montero start that meaningless game, and have Syndergaard well-rested for Wednesday. Otherwise, the options for Wednesday are Colon on three days rest, or Lugo or Gsellman. The Giants have a second ace-like pitcher in Cueto (i'd rather see him though), the Cardinals don't
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Count me among those who would delay Syndergaard's start. ditto.
  11. Should Syndergaard pitch Saturday, on 3 days rest, to allow him to go back out there for the Wildcard game October 5th on another 3 days of rest? Would you instead consider 7 days of rest (if things play out such that the Mets look to be able to clinch Friday)? Would you not mind pitching someone else instead? edit - please move this thread to the Baseball Forum. Syndergaard doesn't want his name so close to Hillary and The Donald.
  12. the NL Wildcard game will be Wed Oct 5th. I'd rather the Cardinals. both teams hav already lined up their best pitcher, and I'd rather face Carlos Martinez. Madison Bumgarner is better AND left-handed which I think is bad for the Mets.
  13. St Louis up 5 runs and SF just getting underway. Mets can't let off the gas pedal at all this week.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That does seem rather obvious. "If you are driving down [insert rural highway with no lights here] late at night, you'd better not be doing 90 if you don't know the bends (or else...)" "if you are in the company of Donald Trump, you'd better not be speaking Spanish (or else...)"
  15. I think there are players missing - I remember reading that 2 players, not 1, died in WW2
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Fernando Valenzuela? no, and its driving me nuts - I wonder if Stark misspoke and there is nobody?
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Wright is perhaps even more out of sight, but has not been as removed from the psyche of Mets fans or their spending habits, I imagine. Part of that is Wright's longer tenure, to be sure. But I imagine that, taking away each of their ready ability to perform, Harvey doesn't leave you as much left to hang your hat on. Wright is in that category of guys - like Seaver, Strawberry, Patrick Ewing, Freakin' Jeter, etc where his jersey sales are no longer dependent on playing - he is an all-time Mets great and they'll be selling shit with his name on it 20 years from now. Harvey has not reached that category - if he never pitches for the Mets again his future jersey sales will probably be relatively nothing.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Just looking at the numbers here, and depending on how things shake out this week, Fernandez looks like a perfectly viable candidate for the first posthumous Cy Young Award. the argument can be made. Saw a number on ESPN that got me thinking... http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17633105/tragic-loss-jose-fernandez-leaves-us-wondering-been-mlb Among right-handed pitchers whose careers began since World War II, do you know how many had a better ERA+ through 70 starts or more? That would be none. Zero. Behind Fernandez you'll find the likes of Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver and Roger Clemens. Fernandez was off to a greater career start than all of them. Wow. Assuming that Stark is choosing his words carefully, what Left-Handed pitcher bested that mark? All the greats I can think of - Koufax, Johnson, Carlton, Glavine - started their careers slowly. Even Bumgarner and Kershaw had at least one year as an average-ish guy before exploding, as did my next guess, Johan Santana. I went and googled a few more names not knowing enough about their careers - Ford didn't do it. Spahn came close, but shouldn't be eligible as he began his career (barely) before or during the war. So, who is it?
  19. Hey, Mets, can you loan the Jets a couple of those touchdowns?
  20. Great Line from Todd Zola, ESPN Fantasy Writer: Gsellman steps in for Syndergaard, unable to make the start, as he is suffering from a case of strep throat. The good news is you don’t have to visit Dr. Andrews for that.
  21. Today's game against the Braves cancelled. Who do the Mets face this week - a dispirited Marlins team ready to end the season, or a newly motivated team?
  22. Well, thanks for the rest of my night back, Mets!
