  1. Steven Matz is so good at getting injured that he can even do it in his sleep.
  2. Why are we laughing at teams that have been eliminated? You must have noticed that this happens to the Mets virtually every year.
  3. No, it's regular season only.
  4. I haven't watched SNL in about 35 years, so I guess that's why I don't know him. There are many who have graduated from SNL who I've become aware of, but if he went from SNL to YouTube videos about the Mets I can understand why he's escaped my notice.
  5. Cespedes has traded his neon yellow sleeve for something with some kind of tiger print.
  6. That would be nice. I remember a younger version of myself thinking that my worst nightmare would be seeing Doug Sisk pitching in a World Series game for the Mets, but then it happened and it wasn't so bad.
  7. David toyed with tying the game, but his fly ball with Granderson on base died at the warning track.
  8. New York Post wrote: Matz, seen as the No. 4 in the Mets playoff pecking order, is scheduled to start Wednesday, but general manager Sandy Alderson said that outing may be pushed back due to the ailment which CBS Sports reported is not thought serious and Alderson said could have been caused by sleeping funny. That does it! NO MORE SLEEPING FUNNY!
  9. Voting for all four games from the Mets recent sweep in Cincinnati will close on Wednesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 9/24/15 - Mets 6, Reds 4 Schaefer POTG 9/25/15 - Mets 12, Reds 5 Schaefer POTG 9/26/15 - Mets 10, Reds 2 Schaefer POTG 9/27/15 - Mets 8, Reds 1
  10. If the Mets are at Citi Field on Saturday for Game 2, I'm sure I'll check the StubHub prices (if any tickets are available) but I suspect I'll find that they'll cost much more than I'd want to spend. In 1985, as things were coming down to the wire, I was thinking that I'd move mountains to get tickets to a Mets postseason game. Figuring that moving mountains isn't all that easy, I got a partial season ticket plan for 1986 and it paid off big time. (I was at three World Series games at Shea, including Game Six.) Now I think I'd be quite satisfied to watch from home. I think I'd be willing to pay the cover price for tickets (although I haven't seen the numbers yet) but I really doubt that I'd pay a significant markup.
  11. I'm thinking the travel/dress/workout guys would be people like Young, Nieuwenhuis, Recker, Campbell, Gilmartin, Verrett. (Assuming, of course, that they don't make the roster. One or two of the players I listed might make the cut.)
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Do the leftovers get invited to travel, dress, and work out with the team? I think that they do, in case an emergency substitution has to be made. (Is it still true that that can only happen between series? Or has that rule been revised?)
  13. The final guy, who nobody guessed, was a left-handed hitting first baseman named "Ike Davis." Of the 18 players in this little quiz, 15 of them managed to win some kind of Schaefer award and were "immortalized" on one or more of my custom 1970s baseball cards.
  14. Duda and Familia, yes. The last guy is in the final category of "Former Mets". Much more prominent than Carlos Torres. Carlos Torres, no. METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (7) Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Bobby Parnell, Jeurys Familia, Lucas Duda 2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2) Dillon Gee, Jenrry Mejia FORMER METS (9) Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
  15. No, Marlon's not on my list. I'm only counting players who played in at least four seasons beginning in 2007. The three remaining guys are all very prominent.
  16. Ceetar's two recent guesses, Parnell and Mejia, are both correct. Three names remain. Two are linked to each other in a way, and the third is linked to one of the two newly added names. METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (7) Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Bobby Parnell 2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2) Dillon Gee, Jenrry Mejia FORMER METS (9) Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
  17. Correction: There are 18. I had all 18 on my list but I counted wrong. So there are five names remaining, and none of them are at all obscure. Evans was the one I thought most likely to be overlooked. METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (7) Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis 2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2) Dillon Gee FORMER METS (9) Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
  18. Oops, somehow I missed Ceetar's guesses, above. (Sorry about that.) All four (Tejada, Nieuwenhuis, Satin, Evans) are correct. Evans was the one I thought most likely to be overlooked. METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (6) Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis 2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2) Dillon Gee FORMER METS (9) Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
  19. Yes to Pagan and Thole. Correct guesses: METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (6) Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy 2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2) Dillon Gee FORMER METS (9) Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan Incorrect guesses: R. A. Dickey
