  5. Yesterday: Not a good day. The Yankees beat the Mets and the Nationals, who have won 6 of their last 7, defeated the Marlins. The NL East lead drops from 8 to 7. The magic number holds at 8. And the NHOP rises from .267 to .286. The possibilities are now reduced to three: Tomorrow morning the lead will either be 6, 7, or 8 games.
  6. I recommend a subscription to Extra Innings.
  7. He's welcome to participate in all of them!
  8. It's a big responsibility, but I think you're ready to handle it.
  9. It would have made much more sense to give Addison Reed the ninth. He only threw eight pitches in the eighth inning and he was looking good. With Clippard unavailable on Friday, and I assume possibly on Saturday, Familia should have been held back. (I would have given Reed the ninth even if the score had remained 4-1, by the way.) Terry should ditch this M.O. I can't imagine that warming up a bit and then sitting down is the same as warming up a bit and then throwing 26 pitches in a game situation.
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: The 'Happy Outcomes' column of that chart should of course read 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 rather than 1 through 5 No, that's correct. The column represents the total number of happy outcomes for the period from Friday through Sunday. We already have one happy outcome, and there's still the possibility of four more, which would leave us with a total of five.

  13. The Mets beat the Yankees tonight, and the Marlins gave the Nationals a good fight, but the Nationals prevailed. So what could have been a great day is, instead, merely a very very good day. The division lead holds at 8 games. The magic number is reduced from 9 to 8. And the NHOP drops by 14 points, from .281 to .267. 14. Could be! Maybe we can start calling him "Johnny Lawns".
  15. The Mets are really sockin' that ball. Knockin' those homers over the wall.
  16. Yes, I was thinking the same thing. (About Travis) And I think maybe Teufel should have sent David home.
  17. Clippard unavailable tonight with a stiff back.

  19. Matz could use a couple of quick innings.
  20. Matz gets out of the inning. 22 pitches, 1 run.
  21. Yankees up 1-0 with two out in the first.
  22. Miami jumps to a quick 2-0 lead in Washington,
  23. "Céspedes", by the way, is the Spanish word for "lawns".
  24. Bob Costas no longer looks boyish.
  25. I guess today isn't a Jewish holiday, otherwise Matz wouldn't be pitching.
