  1. And the answer is: yes. In September, Reed had 5.38 points and Familia had 5.08. In October, Reed had 0.26 and Familia 1.18. So if September and October had been combined, Familia would have won 6.26 to 5.64.
  2. No, October points go towards the Player of the Year, but don't factor into any Player of the Month awards. Same is true for March, when there are regular season games in that month. Here are the September results, in case you missed them: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23430
  3. THE SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2015 PLAYER OF THE YEAR The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year for 2015 is first-time winner JACOB deGROM. This race was, technically, still up in the air going into the final weekend series against Washington, where deGrom had exactly a six-point lead over Matt Harvey. Had Harvey earned a perfect 6, and deGrom a zero, we would have had a tie in both the Player and Pitcher of the Year categories. Jacob finished with 97.08 points. PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2005 - David Wright, 140.17 points*; 2006 - David Wright, 121.16; 2007 - David Wright, 124.77; 2008 - Johan Santana, 121.37; 2009 - David Wright, 91.72; 2010 - David Wright, 117.56; 2011 - José Reyes, 104.96; 2012 - David Wright, 113.06; 2013 - Daniel Murphy, 107.30; Lucas Duda, 95.62. * Totals were higher in 2005 because of a rule specifying that ten points were to be awarded for each game. PITCHER OF THE YEAR The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Year is, obviously, JACOB deGROM. This is his first win in this category. PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2005 - Pedro Martinez, 120.68 points*; 2006 - Tom Glavine, 80.26; 2007 - Tom Glavine, 75.97; 2008 - Johan Santana, 121.37; 2009 - Johan Santana, 84.61; 2010 - Johan Santana, 90.42; 2011 - R.A. Dickey, 69.40; 2012 - R.A. Dickey, 110.12; 2013 - Matt Harvey, 86.68; 2014 - Bartolo Colon, 74.77. * Totals were higher in 2005 because of a rule specifying that ten points were to be awarded for each game. RELIEF PITCHER OF THE YEAR The Mets Relief Pitcher of the Year is yet another first-time winner, JEURYS FAMILIA, who had finished in second place last year, by 2.48 points, to Carlos Torres. Familia very nearly ran the table in 2015, winning Relief Pitcher of the Month in April, May, June, July, and August, and he led the September voting until being passed on the very last day of the month by Addison Reed. Familia, who tied a club record with 43 saves, totaled 35.85 points, all out of the bullpen. Runners up were Carlos Torres (20.25 points), Hansel Robles (17.61), Sean Gilmartin (16.78), Alex Torres (12.05), Tyler Clippard (10.86) and Eric Goeddel (10.52). PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2006 - Billy Wagner, 40.39 points; 2007 - Aaron Heilman, 34.86; 2008 - Aaron Heilman, 34.50; 2009 - Francisco Rodriguez, 38.58; 2010 - Hisanori Takahashi 28.69; 2011 - Pedro Beato, 25.93; 2012 - Bobby Parnell, 29.01; 2013 - LaTroy Hawkins, 32.30; 2014 - Carlos Torres, 35.75. BENCH PLAYER OF THE YEAR The Bench Player of the Year is MICHAEL CUDDYER. Michael earned 3.49 points in games in which he did not start, ahead of last year's winner Eric Campbell (3.39 points), Juan Uribe (3.30), Juan Lagares (3.08) and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (2.58). Cuddyer won with the fewest points ever for a Bench Player of the Year. PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2006 - Julio Franco, 7.16 points; 2007 - Marlon Anderson, 10.39; 2008 - Damion Easley, 5.06; 2009 - Fernando Tatis, 8.37; 2010 - Chris Carter, 9.28; 2011 - Scott Hairston, 8.77; 2012 - Jordany Valdespin, 13.84; 2013 - Jordany Valdespin, 8.70; 2014 - Eric Campbell, 5.89. The only Mets player who did not earn any Schaefer points in 2015 was Akeel Morris. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, 2015 Week ending April 11, 2015: Travis d'Arnaud, 4.86 points. 4. Yes.
  5. dinosaur jesus wrote: I was a great supporter of the Colts when Adrian "Cap" Anson was their manager, since "Cap" came from the same little town in Iowa, Marshalltown, that my wife was born in. (As was that lovely young actress Jean Seberg.) But when the new owners of the team treated "Cap" so shabbily, I'm afraid they lost my support. I'd be very happy to see the Pittsburgers and that big German, Wagner, prevail in this series. This confuses me. I assume that this post was written during Honus Wagner's playing career, but Jean Seberg wasn't even born until 1938, when Honus Wagner was 64 years old. And by the time Seberg made her film debut, Wagner was nearly two years dead. I think we've discovered some kind of inexplicable chronological anomaly.
  6. I have no idea which team would be more likely to lose to the Mets in the NLCS, and since we don't know that the Mets (or the winner of the Pirates-Cubs game) will even be in the NLCS, I'm not factoring the Mets at all into my rooting interest. I would rather see the Pirates win.
  7. I didn't realize that Oliver Perez was with Houston. I thought he was still a Diamondback.
  8. The Mets are about to make their fourth appearance in the National League Division Series. The first two times, in 1999 and 2000, they got there as a result of being the National League's Wild Card team. In 2006 and now, in 2015, they're in this series because they won the National League Eastern Division title. In 1999, the Mets defeated the Diamondbacks in four games, and did the same to the Giants in 2000. In 2006, the Mets swept the three-game series from the Dodgers. In this thread we'll take a look at the NLDS club records, most of which are fairly modest, given that the Mets have only played 11 NLDS games in their history. Active Mets are listed in bold text. This list will be updated at the conclusion of the NLDS. There will certainly be at least a few updates, in the Games Started section, and in the Wins and/or Losses section as well. 9. I'm rooting for Pittsburgh.

  12. Of course, I should qualify that by saying I'd cut Gilmartin if Matz proves healthy. Otherwise, Matz goes and Gilmartin stays.
  13. I think the last two scratches will be Torres and Gilmartin. According to Mike Vorkunov at NJ.com, Goeddel has been told that he made it. Who we know is on Mets' NLDS roster vs. Los Angeles Dodgers right now and who isn't
  14. Done! I switched to Nieuwenhuis.
  15. Of those, I thought that Alvarez and Herrera might have had a shot, not at making the roster but at being among the nearer misses.
  16. Wow... Did Terry really say "dumbass" and "fucked up"? If so, either he always talks like that and we only get a filtered version, or he's especially agitated at this. That aside, there's a difference to being late, because of traffic, which can happen to anybody, and not showing up at all. And Harvey didn't show up at all, correct?
  17. Voting for all three games from the regular season-ending series against the Nationals will close on Wednesday, some time after 10 a.m. This will be the final time, after ten years of faithful service, that I'll be using my magical Schaefer spreadsheet. I'm not sure if I should sell it on eBay as a collectible, or donate it to the Smithsonian. Schaefer POTG 10/3/15 (Game 1) - Nationals 3, Mets 1 Schaefer POTG 10/3/15 (Game 2) - Nationals 2, Mets 0 Schaefer POTG, 10/04/2015 Mets 1, Washington 0
  18. Good Times Any time you clinch divisions - Good Times Any time you make the playoffs - Good Times When you make your magic number Not getting traded, not getting injured Keepin' your head in the game, Scorin' some runs when you can Mandatory workouts - Good Times. Less walks and more strikeouts - Good Times Harvey will be pitchin' - Good Times Boras won't be bitchin' - Good Times Ain't we lucky we got 'em - Good Times
  19. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports today that the Marlins have interviewed Larry Bowa for their open managing job. If he gets the gig, Terry Collins will no longer be baseball's oldest manager.
  20. I do wish Terry had given Conforto a few more at bats against lefties, especially after the clincher. Seeing how he did would be good information to have.
  21. I'm not nervous -- at least not yet. I don't expect the Mets to win this series, so I'm still enjoying the ride. If we have a tie score in the 8th inning of Game 5, however, I'm sure I'll be a bundle of nervous energy.
  22. I've never noticed that pinch runners are only used by teams that are trailing. I'm not advocating for Eric Young to make the roster, but even if the Mets are losing, that doesn't mean they don't still want to win. I don't see what's wrong with having a speedy pinch runner if you're down by a run in the 8th inning.
