  1. Yes to Justin Turner. Correct guesses: METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (6) Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy 2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2) Dillon Gee FORMER METS (9) Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner Incorrect guesses: R. A. Dickey

Because the weather's looking pretty iffy for the next couple of days.... If Tuesday or Wednesday get rained out, then yes, I'd expect a doubleheader on Thursday. But if Thursday gets rained out, I don't expect that the Mets would be forced to return to Philadelphia for a makeup game next Monday.

  4. I do think it should be a best-of-three. But if the Yankees get tossed after one game, I won't complain.
  5. I was thinking similar thoughts, wondering how many Mets put in a significant amount of time in the recent lean years without experiencing postseason play as a Met. I found 17 players who have played for the Mets since 2007 and have been in at least one game in four or more seasons but did not play in any postseason games in 2006. Six of those 17 are current Mets and have a chance to drop off this list when the NLDS starts. (Some are far more likely than others, but I'm assuming that anyone on the current roster has at least a theoretical chance.) Of the 11 remaining, there are 2 who appeared in 2015 but are currently out of the picture. Dillon Gee, mentioned above, is one of them. That leaves 9 who are no longer in the Mets organization. Let's make this a quiz of sorts: How many of the 17 players can you name? Again, they've appeared in four or more of the seasons between 2007 and 2015 but have never played a post-season game with the Mets. Six are on the current active roster. Two played for the Mets earlier this year. Nine others departed the Mets prior to 2015. No need to guess one at a time. Rattle off as many names as you can think of.

  7. Voting for last Wednesday's loss to the Braves will close on Tuesday morning, some time after 10 a.m. It looks like there are at least a few regular voters who haven't yet chimed in on this game. Schaefer POTG 9/23/15 - Braves 6, Mets 3
  8. If it's an extra-inning game, or the Mets starter is removed early, I'd rather put in Niese and try to get three or four innings from him instead of trying to churn through the rest of the game stringing together a lot of one-inning pitchers.
  9. TransMonk wrote: Not necessarily a worry, so I'll put it here. The Mets against the NL Central this season minus the Cubs and Bucs: 13-6 The Mets against everyone in MLB minus the Cubs and Bucs: 89-53 (.627!) I can't decide if I'm scared of the Cubs and Bucs or not. The Mets haven't played the Cubs since July 2, and the Mets have changed fairly significantly since then. And of the seven losses to the Cubs, four of them were by a single run. (The scores were, in May: 4-3; 6-1; 2-1; 6-5 and in June/July: 1-0; 2-0; 6-1.) The Pirates are a little more worrisome, since they swept three from the Mets at Citi Field in August: 3-2, 5-3, and 8-1. The 8-1 game was tied at 1 through 6 innings, until Terry turned it over to Parnell, O'Flaherty, and Carlos Torres. Presumably none of those options will be available to him in October.
  10. Shazam is also known as "Captain Marvel". I have to admit, I have no idea who "Boba Fett" is. I'm guessing he's from Star Wars?
  11. I had no idea that they made Underoos in adult sizes.

  14. Recker is very definitely below Plawecki on the depth chart.
  15. See Frayed Knot's post, above.
  16. If they keep the game close, Terry has a hell of a selection of pinch hitters to choose from late in the game.
  17. That's probably not the best idea. Although the Mets did get through the entire 1986 postseason only using 22 players.
  18. Cuddyer 1 Duda 3 Granderson 1 Harvey 4 Wright 1
  19. In the Postseason Musings thread, I said that I wanted an 11-man pitching staff and the following roster: DeGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz, Familia, Clippard, Reed, Robles, Colon, Niese, Goeddel, d'Arnaud, Plawecki, Duda, Murphy, Johnson, Flores, Tejada, Uribe, Wright, Cespedes, Conforto, Granderson, Lagares, Cuddyer. If there's a 12th pitcher, I'd add Verrett and probably give him Uribe's spot, now that Juan is questionable. If it's' still 11 pitchers, and Uribe can't play, then I'd make the bench a little more left-handed and select Nieuwenhuis. I know we're not supposed to disagree with the all-knowing chart, but I'm with Gwreck. Everything I've heard and read indicates that Matz is expected to be on the postseason roster and in the rotation as the fourth starter.
  20. The NHOP... is zero. 'Nuff said!
  21. Phillies tied with Washington now. Extra Innings would be okay too.
  22. I'm definitely rooting for Washington and it feels very strange.
  23. I'm happily surprised, at my age, how giddy I am that the Mets are where they are today. (And I don't mean that they're in Cincinnati.) The clips that SNY showed of previous clinchers gave me goosebumps.
