Well, at least the first shoe has dropped. Or maybe I should say that the first domino has fallen, because we're expecting more than two deals to happen.

I'm thinking that our guy might have worn his name on the front of a minor league uniform. The Mets once had a farm team in Jackson, Mississippi, but I don't recall any backup catchers named Jackson. I could make a wild guess, like "Melvin Tidewater" but I doubt that would be correct.

Baseball America says... Amick, 23, was the Twins’ second-round pick in 2024 out of Tennessee. He has been parked with Double-A Wichita all season, where he slashed .217/.338/.482 with 23 homers and a 28.5% strikeout rate. As one might expect given that production, Amick hits the ball hard, with a 90th percentile exit velocity creeping toward 107 mph as of late July and steep launch angles. The tradeoff is a worrisome amount of swing-and-miss, especially in the strike zone. Defensively, he has split his time between third and first base this season. Most of his future value will be tied to his bat. Agbayani, 19, was the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Hawaii before the Twins drafted him out of high school that year in the sixth round. At the time, he ranked as the No. 405 prospect in the draft on the strength of a well-rounded offensive profile and a chance to stick in the infield, albeit without a clear carrying tool. A shoulder injury has limited him to just 10 Low-A games this season. Agbayani is the son of Benny Agbayani, who played parts of four big league seasons with the Mets.

I also wish I could see that wedding photo. In 2007 I likened Squinty to Big Ethel and I'm wondering if I would still make that comparison.

Of course, this time the Mets don't have a Tom Seaver to trade, but they also wouldn't be getting back three other players. -
I am intrigued by the name on the front and back of the uniform thing. I first thought of Claudell Washington and Daryl Boston, but neither were catchers and I don't think Boston was ever a Red Sock anyway. And Claudell may have been a Washington Senator, but I don't think so. And I don't think the Mets ever had a catcher named "White Sox" or "Devil Rays".

Unfortunately, the photo is lost, presumably forever. (It had been at http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2834/girlsqu1.png) And the marriage didn't last either. Mike Nickeas married Rebecca in 2007, but now he's married to Christa. At the time we were inappropriately discussing his wife's bridesmaids, Mike had never played above AA Binghamton. Interesting that he came to our attention.

I sent a message in April to the admin's personal email address, and never got a reply. I definitely gave the site to the wrong people. Unfortunate, but the shadow site that I've kept alive will remain indefinitely. Eliminating box scores, transactions, and minor league stats, and no longer keeping track of the movements of former Mets players who are still active, means that it's taking up very little of my time. But I really would have liked to have been able to pass the torch and let someone else take over. I suppose I can still do that, but the UMDB name appears to be unrecoverable.

I'd like to think that they're sifting through dozens of fantastic options. I'd also like to think that they'll make the right decisions, but that's another story. -

I'm glad I don't have to make that decision. I remember thinking that I'd keep Ike Davis and deal Lucas Duda. That wouldn't have worked out well. My gut says keep Benge, but that's not an informed choice. I pretty much tuned out about a month ago. -
I remember liking Tomas Nido. I don't know if his stats back that up.

He spent too much time with other teams. There's really nothing on his plaque that's specific to his time with the Mets, unlike with Seaver and Piazza.
