  1. I guess his seat was at least a little bit hotter than Mendy's. Don Mattingly is the interim manager.
  2. On October 3, 2024, Devin Williams was hittable when we needed him to be hittable. He can stop now.
  3. I see that Williams was credited with the win even though Brazoban was the Mets pitcher when the winning runs scored. I suppose the official scorer used the "brief and ineffective" rule to take the win from Brazoban, but Williams doesn't really seem much more deserving. I probably would have given the win to Peterson, but I'm not sure how much discretion the official scorer has. Does the win have to go to a pitcher adjacent in the box score to the guy who was brief and ineffective?
  4. I remember thinking the same thing more than 30 years ago when Vince Coleman kept pulling muscles every time he moved.
  5. Ugh. I was hoping to hear that it wasn't as bad as Soto's.
  6. Today we had SIGH OF RELIEF. Seven years ago today, it was CY OF RELIEF.
  7. From the write-up for Ryan Lambert: I think they will need that, especially if they manage to get themselves to a place where they're playing games that matter. Maybe it will be Lambert or Ross or both of them. I have my doubts that Devin Williams will hold the closer job through September.
  8. I was a plodder without any visibly obvious reason. Skinny kid with long legs, but I couldn't move them fast enough. I was always the slowest kid in gym class.
  9. I don't know. He looks like he's built for speed. Another way to post photos is to copy the graphic itself and paste it into the edit window. I've found that it works for me when using a PC but not on a smartphone.
  10. Lindor has probably been my favorite Met since around 2022. That hasn't changed. (Especially since he's practically the only remaining player I recognize.) Also, I found that I missed collecting tabloid covers, so I started doing it again. But don't jump to any conclusions! The Stockholm office has shut down and the TCD Department has been laid off. Maja, you'll be glad to know, is still pursuing her reality show career and will be featured on the next Sweden version of The Traitors.
  11. I'm thinking Rusty Staub.
  12. Maybe the Mets need to get a new calf guy.
  13. The Mets paid a potentially steep price for Peralta. I expect that if they trade him they'll want more than a mid-level AA prospect.
  14. I agree. But to seawolf's point, I think Lindor, Soto, and McLean are all very unlikely to go. But yeah, Holmes, Bichette, Peralta, Robert, Semien would all be available. As would Senga and Peterson and Williams if anyone wants them. Younger guys like Baty, Vientos, Alvarez, and Benge aren't really "fire sale" types, but who knows? One or more of them might be used to sweeten a deal that takes on a less desirable player, like Semien perhaps.
  15. I'd love to know what Steve Cohen is really thinking.
  16. That's true. When people say "there's still time" it doesn't mean that April games don't matter as much as September games do. It means that there's time to put together a hot streak that will negate this awful streak.
  17. I had to vote no. Of course they'll get better than this, but it looks like the season is going to be a long slog that will end in late September.
  18. I know what you mean. Despite the jokes about "rooting for laundry" a fan's interest relies on a sense of continuity from season to season. There are always changes, and the team evolves from Tom Seaver to Lee Mazzilli to Darryl Strawberry to Bobby Bonilla to Mike Piazza to David Wright to Jacob deGrom etc. But sudden wholesale changes definitely lead to a feeling of disconnect. Especially since some of the more prominent players this year are likely to be short-term transients, like Robert and Polanco. And likely Peralta and Bichette as well. We could focus on the younger players with many years as Mets ahead of them (McLean, Alvarez, Benge, Baty, Vientos) but some of them are likely to go for the next one-year veteran rental.
  19. Yeah, I noticed that too. And I agree.
